  1. Hi so I seem to have forgotten my laptop password. I don't know how since I log into it daily! I think I'm losing it. My work password is similar to my laptop password at home so maybe that's why I've got confused and can't remember it eventhough I logged onto yesterday. Anyway I've tried pressing F8 to get into safe mode but safe mode isn't showing. How can I reset my password without losing everything on it please? I use windows (can't remember if it's 8 or 10). I have a Predator Helios 300 gaming laptop. Thanks.

  2. I can login but when I do it logs me out after a while (5 or 10 minutes) I'm not having trouble with teleporting but I noticed when I go to a new place (I've been to a few random different ones) it logs me out after a while.

  3. Hi the rear view camera angle shows me from a strange angle..like I'm on the ground looking up at my avatar.. but when I changed to rear view the angle is ok. I have clicked on the up arrow but as soon as I move the camera angle changes to that weird angle. Does anyone know what's wrong with it? Thanks.

If you have the stream playing in someone else's land, you'll find out whether it's allowed as soon as you get banned permanently from the area.  A good rule is "Don't do it."

Music is either played through the stream set in the Sound panel in World >> About Land by the parcel owner, or is played though shared media, associated with a prim. Unless you own the land, you can't set the parcel media stream, so you won;t be able to do that anyway.  If you want to play music streamed through a prim, you'll have to either have rights to rez prims where you are or you'll have to use a prim attached to you.  Either one would probably be considered a nuisance by most people.

Thanks. I decided not to buy it lol

"No Mod" is a warning that you should not expect to be able to modify the thing you'll purchase, because it's restricted by the creator using system permissions. As others have described, some things are modifiable in certain ways, even though their system permissions are "No Mod".

There are things for sale in SL (ex: textures or shapes), generally intended for use by creators who'll then redistribute modified versions of the thing, which may be incorporated into other things, that must be sold "full perm" to allow both modification and subsequent distribution. Those things will usually come with a caveat that they cannot be redistributed as "full perm", but must be distributed with more restrictive permissions, or included in things which do not allow their extraction.

In general, if you are able to modify a thing, it's because you are allowed to modify a thing. Don't worry if you discover you can modify, in some way, a thing that's marked "No Mod". The system generally doesn't allow you to get in trouble.

Thanks. Yes I understand now. The seller made some things modifiable e.g. shape but not the skin so I guess the seller just put no modify just because some things you can't modify.

It says no modify where? In the Marketplace listing? That isn't automatic the seller sets that when they list it, If they intend to make an item no mod, but put it out there as mod it is thier problem, not yours. It can go the other way as well, I got a bad review on an item I was selling when I first started out, because I thought I was setting the actual permissions when I checked those boxes. I listed an item as modify, but didn't actually make the item modify.

Yes in marketplace in the permissions section modify has a line through it yet in the details section it states 'Shape (modif & copy).' Oh ok I think I get it now because in the contents section it shows exactly what is modifiable (is that a word?) lol so e.g. the skin isn't but the shape is. Thanks.

Well, it is the common practice in SL to have the skins no modify. So if you try to tint an avatar, let us say tint it to a blue shade, you can't do it.

Shapes are sold as modify the most times. Clothes, hair and shoes are more 50/50.

This can be confusing at first.

If it was the 5L David male full avatar you bought, it indeed says no modify under the permissions. But in the description, it says that the shape is mod and copy. Maybe the seller has set the permissions for the whole avatar to no modify because she will avoid complaints from people who will change the skin.

We also have the case where an item is sold as modify, but you can only modify it with a resizer. The seller then argue slyly that it is modify since you can change the size. This is a unfair way of setting the permissions, I think. If one want to edit off a prim or adjust the colors, then they can't do it, because modify permissions are locked.

And finally, the thing you bought can show up in your inventory like "no modify", but still, you can edit it. Let us say you have a hair that says no modify, you wear it and you color it purple. Then the hair object itself can be modifiable, but it contains a script hat is no modify. Many creators include a resizer script, but leaves the modify permissions on. These creators are awesome. :x

As one who sometimes roam the grid in a male avatar, I can tell you that having modify permissions is a must when you will want to wear a beard. It is almost impossible to find a beard and a hair in matching colors. Well, both are sold as "auburn" for example. Yet they are two different shades. So tinting the lightest color a bit darker manually, is really the difference between a "meh" match and a perfect match.

Have I confused you? Welcome to SL, it is confusing. :D Especially in the start.

Tl.dr: If you can modify it, you are allowed to do it. It is just labelled wrong or contains a part that is no modify, but not all of it.

Wow ok so basically I can edit the shape which is what I wanted to do so I can modify it but I can't modify the texture or skin etc. I got confused because I thought modify meant that I can't modify anything at all but I think the seller meant certain things can be modified otherwise why would they allow permission to modify the shape right? Thanks.
