  1. Honestly it did for a very long time, but as I've gotten older its only helped magnify my disdain for real life & my country and its people. I think at some point its made me see real life too much for what it is or I believe it to be.  this in turn has made me more withdrawn into online things not just SL but other solo hobbies too.

But then again my reasons for starting out using SL is totally different for my reasons now. while I can't go over most of the things, its not anything I can talk about without a huge amount of context outside the scope of the thread. one day I plan on living in another country and seek some therapy while writing my own autobiography about my time in the USSA a modern like emotional Gulag Archipelago were I will contemplate other levels of slavery & serfdom, social violence & couturial aggression pressed on myself & others through other means in a society that pretends freedom is the foundation all others are rooted from. It will reference SL in many chapters and have a few chapters entirely entailed in it. the book with likely be broken down into a volume of 5 books.

Second Life has helped, but when the real life damage continues outside my control even today then I have had to face the limits of its positive impacts but I'll never discount my time here.

Textures are bad in quantity, not size.

So is having a lot of mesh with the same texture & UUID not as laggy?  example a region full of the same mesh grass from one creator vs. filled with hundreds of grass plants from different creators.

My PC is DirectStorage ready for the Microsoft API.  will the viewers be able to take advantage of this? somewhat off topic but while I'm here:D it offsets memory from CPU to GPU.  my newest game I'm playing Scorn takes advantage of it

They could not have bought Lumiya.

Leave it where it belongs - in the heap of abandoned software.

Yeah Lumiya hasn't been updated since it was taken off the Google Play Market. So why would they buy something, that they would have to put years of updates into? It would not be a worthwhile investment or partnership.

In my eyes Speedlight is better, its being supported and the created seems very invested into it. And since it was created, the creator has basically put a lot time and energy into it.

You can gaslight it LOL.. but the thing your appearing to overlook is they took have a mobile app that should be free for a 20yr old+ GAME that the company itself admits is a small fry in terms of marketspace and are hiding it behind a paywall. almost as if they have no desire to see the grid grow or even replace the people who never log back in.

Let me give you some ammo to reload on. you can come at me with " they are a private company and can do what they want" exactly like waste between 50 to 75 million dollars on a stillborn platform residents told them in alpha would never make it and to put it to sleep before wasting a half a decade "like SL but Better" and lets be real here LL uses the next step up from slave labor called contractors (those who do not get benefits and are strung along with promises of 'real employment') well before one of you starts the 'they got a fortune in this viewer why should they share with 3rd party viewers' no they don't if anything the most $50 grand(pretax).

This viewer or an old viewer whatever works, they should offer the mobile viewer free of charge on the google/apple stores at a minimal and at the most they should opensource it.

They can find some other carrot to offer P+ they just have to unplug themselves from there binary collectives unit and instead of say'n 'you will be assimilated' they can things inside there heads ' how can I help you' ' how could this be better'

Don't worry no linden will see this, as Coffee has pointed out. they never read the forums anymore so no hurt feelings.

I get your point your old heads on the forum this is your mic area & playground but sometimes we need to things to be said when no one else wants to or is fear of losing forum popularity over.

I've seen the linden elites using the map privacy feature to hide their dot from the world map and was wondering if this is a feature other users might like to have as well.

I kind of feel strange when I travel around because I always feel like i'm on someone elses map like I have a tracking device on me.

Wonders why we do not have that feature yet.

    Pros & Cons?

I'll start with a Pro and a Con

Pro - Privacy - Not knowing who is online and near by would be more organic, less claustrophobic experience.

Con - May mess up avatar trackers others use, like for traffic.

Was a time I took SL as serious as you do now,  not that its a bad thing I've been guilty of it too. but, sometimes you've got to open the front door, getting fresh air inside.

  5. I would go with Lelutka hands down as they are basically the replacement for Genus Heads even if they predate them by over a decade. I love the hud features. I would never buy a Catwa Head again (not telling why to avoid a hissy fit with 'The Mouth of MeshHeads' on the forum ) but you could try looking into LAQ? she has nice heads too.

  6. P+ Member here. I don't plan on using this viewer at all. ZERO .even as my cell phone is glued to my hand in RL.

Simple reason this was a terrible move by LL they should have bought the Lumiya Viewer and then should have open sourced it to the 3rd party viewers to really get several ones out to fit varied people tastes.

    Why?

Well come on people we need new blood here in SL and a free mobile global app was what SL not only needed, but deserves!

This was a short sighted example of LL employees living in an echo chamber and not using their own services.

Premium plus needed some extra carrots to bait subscribers but this should not have been one of them. its counter productive long term that we will all pay for with less new people to meet, rent to or sell things to.

    The thing is ..

We can't do that (especially not here, on the forums).

LL are not going to pick up hints and ideas, strategies, talking points, vision, or any of the thousand thing they need and don't even recognize they need from anything we say here.

Even really dumb and obvious stuff like ..

Replace the crappy mixed vague messaging on the front page with a single simple statement - JOIN SL - MAKE FRIENDS

.. not just because they won't, but because they can't.

We're here everyday and will continue to be here everyday, sinking our time, creative energies, hearts, hopes and dreams into SL.

LL are ... off doing whatever LL do. As a corporation they've proven demonstrably bad at building and growing SL (or any other entertainment product or platform). As individual Linden's & Moles (the ones who interact with us anyway), they're awesome and committed and passionate.

This isn't a shocking. This is over a decade of slowly coasting into the floor dragging the fallen corpses of 'branch out' products behind us. Where would we be now if we had gotten a Sansar's amount of Linden enthusiasm .. rather than a development drought that ended in the cloud. How's Tilly doing, gotten any new customers lately .. sure wish the money had been spent here.

Virtual worlds, the future of everything, your world, your imagination .. has fallen a long long way since those heady days. Tilly .. the future of .. the virtual gig economy where high skilled digital artists get ground to the bone for pennies .. yaaaaaaaaaay. Look at the fee structure .. woooooooo.

SL should be the most fun you can have on the internet.

It's not us. SL wouldn't be better if it had people other than us. This isn't up to us. We can't fix this. Neither can LL as it stands.

In the early days, LL were breaking ground faster than they could run, the hype was infectious, Philip was our king and we would follow him anywhere. We took that energy and we evangelized. We dragged everyone who would listen here in the hope they could see the magic too.

Well you stole my thunder with your logic & reason as always Coffee, you said everything perfectly having stole the words right from my mouth but told more cohesively.

I've got nothing else I can say. talk to yawl next year.:P

Other things I thought (in my extremely un-expert opinion) might be good moves for Second Life: for Linden Lab to introduce an OpenAvatar project, sort of the way they did with OpenSimulator. With the idea of moving forward a standard for avatars that could potentially facilitate maintaining appearances across platforms.

Or to un-fork OpenSimulator and work to introduce some meaningful security, then make the Second Life asset dabatase a service an OpenSim region owner could subscribe to.

If something kills Second Life, I suspect it will be the same thing that kills many companies: the rate at which change happens is changing. Companies become rigid and inflexible as their bones settle. Decentralization might not be the worst option for SL, but there are probably better ways to mix things up and still keep it together.

That was what High Fidelity and Sansar was the walled prison version of it. both failed.

We are not going to see a SL replacement as no one is going to spend lots of money in a possible replacement because it will be based on controlling everything you say or do (remember in sansar they made it to were you logged in you have to rezz in first at the welcome center but before you could log in at home they just decided for you for there reasons) all the data mining and trying to link it to your real life its all going to fail.

Second Life might be clunky at times but I still have most of my RL freedoms in it.  western society is dying and maybe decades from now when new countries & cultures emerge maybe some of your ideas might be feasible & beneficial but for now we have the rich getting rich and the poor getting poorer. so all these open projects your dreaming of will likely have to wait we cannot have a free internet when as example in the USA 1% of the elites own or control 87% of the land and resources in the country.

Any open free internet has to be backed by a real free open real life. SL was just ahead of the curve like a joules Verne novel. many decades.

  9. I don't do sales but will visit almost any event😁.

I feel for the small prices most are asking for really nice things its the least I can do. I always pay a full fair price.  I know some would say every girl loves a good sale, but my father always said nothings free, someone has to pay, someone gets the shortest straw pulled for them. he also said to never be on the bad end of a good deal or put someone else in that position.

I think many like sales and events. it's part of a routine or lifestyle they have here. (all part of the game) it's totally understandable and helps spread the love around.

Some sellers they almost always are having a sale its a big part of the business plan they have. nothings ever really for sale they just keep lowball prices masked under the face of big sales & good deals.

Those who never offer at least few sales a year also might be losing a lot of money as well as brand loyalty (I'm talking to you hair sellers and your $3500L Fatpacks)

I think sales are good for those who want them or are willing to offer them. to others its not a priority.

  10. Unless this body has amazing features no other body has or could offer then its dead in the water for me. why would I trust any brand that would take years after everyone else to offer a new body that brings really nothing new to the table.

Shapes can be changed in the sliders, I can make 99% the almost exact body wearing Maitreya vs Legacy or Slink.

Unless its something cutting edge, were not even linden lab has yet to add it to the grid. then, I see none of these new bodies as worth buying. I know they have there fan clubs and even a few lindens shilling for them in the blogs but really if anything people should be more excited about new heads not a body most are hiding under clothing most of the times

I can see some need a body with extrema rigging to have boobs bigger then there legs or a butt so big other use it as a chair. but for the majority the only thing this new body does is complicate a market already filled with competing bodies.

I preferred the days of two or three bodies that 99% of creators made things for while making things much more simple for everyone including new residents and feel the reason for all the newer bodies is not to offer something new to the table but of ego.

You think I'm wrong? change my mind. but i bet if someone took a survey most would agree with me.

  11. Your never in control no matter what you see or believe yourself to be. hormones, social pressures and even all the bacteria in your gouts and body all move you around on invisible strings to what they want.  we can pretend to be anyone or anything but life itself & reality are the final judge not feelings, wants or desires. we are just a mere blimp on life's radar we never really know if we see the exact colors around us or see everything the same or do we all have some unique perception in vision & optics that generically the others cannot.

Are you good at playing another gender? well do your hormones/genetics truly define how you feel or or portray or could it be your spirit or soul inside that defines who you are. if a man who appears overly masculine in RL but uses an avatar of opposite sex in SL might not need to really try to be anyone or anybody else as the avatar allows them to show who they truly feel or experience inside.

I think the ideas of genders is as damaging in it's conformity as destructiveness as defining someone based on there race.

Yeah life can be unfair, we might not be as attractive as we want to be or be the gender on the outside as we see ourselves inside but these are all just perspectives & reality's, the constraints we have to work with in life but that's not an excuse to not having some compassion or empathy for those who might be under distress from the hand they are dealt who might not feel as strong as other do or have the same coping skills.

I've always said second life is a great therapy session to truly understand what kind of person you really are.

In the human race we created so many social constructs over countless generations to defined who or what we are then each individual is socially expected to conform to those expectations. in this day should be thinking higher and better then this and not try to trap each others in labels created before we were even born.

One thing I learned early on many years ago around a campfire in da boom with Philip & other lindens hanging out was to see the person in front of me, never asking who is on the other end in RL. its not because we might find out something that we don't like but it would be something we might not understand. not because we might be ignorant of what's explained but because its complicated and specifically to that person.

I really believe most are not portraying the avatar, but are just being themselves.

Life is complicated, some things are more fluid then set in stone,  while one certainty for everyone No one gets out of life alive. Just enjoy your life, no matter what life it is. Live your life to sing like no one can hear and dance like no one is watching and make love till you cry cause darling we ain't leaving here alive.

I'm probably about to talk a load of codswallop, but I would think before any last names are introduced that Linden Lab have to go through some kind of process so they don't breach any copyrights or offend anyone, although I seem to recall someone used to frequent these forums with the first name of Dogboat, which I think means something that could offend someone.

(Oh why don't I just sit on my hands?!)

Sooo Linden Lab's current way of enabling residents to suggest last names is acceptable I think, except it's not in a very public place, so yes, I agree with you that an email now and then to remind people they can make suggestions for last names and a winning suggestion bags them a last name of their choice free of charge as is the case now.

(Link at the bottom of this article)

I can't see them adding Virginity as a surname any time soon.

And some of your other suggestions may already have been used in the past. Linden Lab say they won't be bringing any past legacy names back, but they might change their mind on that. (They changed their mind about losing the last name and brought that back after all.) Link below is a list of all previous last names that were available at one time or another.

    https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Current_Last_Names

I think you misunderstand I was giving feedback to LL not asking for any help in a resident to resident discussion.

The Virginity statement you edited out, I can't help you if your offended and don't understand the history of the word and that you don't realize some people might hold it as a title of honor & commitment . yes they likely would not choose it, as things were just thrown out there comparing it to Throgmorton but it would not take much to point such a name better then Throgmorton.

Feedback to LL is all the thread was about.

Only for very large values of "some." The global X coordinate of the south-easternmost extent of the connected cluster of continents and private islands is somewhere shy of 300000, whereas the westernmost region of Zindra (the Arapaima safe hub) is about 460000, so they're separated by a span of over 625 region-widths.

Zindra is also 150-some region-heights south of the nearest point on the connected cluster, which doesn't add much to the hypotenuse, but regions aren't connected on the diagonal, so the shortest path connection would require nearly 800 regions.

[ETA: this "south-easternmost extent" is unrealistically optimistic, now that I think about it, because I was using the bunch of private sailing islands that hang off to the east of the Blake Sea, which could come and go any time the Estate reconfigured. Sticking to Mainland continents, part of Gaeta would be a bit further from Zindra but wouldn't really matter that much since none of it could happen without massive growth in the user base.]

Thanks for Info it explains a good bit.

Well if they can't move them hopefully they might spruce up the linden roads & places to give it a modern distinct feel. they would not need to go all out on a makeover just a smart revision of things. alot of the prim structures like the unigue railroad station/mall could still be there and even rented out again, just the smaller details refreshed instead of a 25 prim lamp post they could add a 4LI one. focus on reducing lag & sharping up the details.

  14. Carry over from another thread

I  tried to give another name on the list the benefit of the possibilities now it turns out Throgmorton is just another weak undesirable name.

We need a better system for residents to vote/suggest names, a system link in the viewer at login would be great or a certain time every month with an email .  it feels like someone/somebody's are just trolling LL at this point in name selection.

These would be OK to me. Budda, Vanille, Fashionista, Royal,  Adara, Adeela, Diva,Targaryen,Daenerys, Antoinette,Valentina, Heartstrings, Heartbreaker, Gardner, Mogul, Highroller, Millionaire, Soundproof, Jaded, Witch, Innocent, Bigheart, FastFingers, Queen, Fancy, Sinister, Sisterhood, Downlow, Slim, Empathy, Songstress, Virginity, Callgirl, PutinsBrain, Tweety, Sweety, Agent, Breathless,  Churros, Seamstress, Honeybee, Wasp, Landlord, Hornet,Timeless, Colorblind, Truthseeker, Lovemachine(Philip Reference) Ebbe(Dedicated to the late CEO)

  15. The whole idea of what we think is based on past hardware limitations a few people in high places the ideas they see and a whole boatload of people who think it's a new chance to control other's while getting the opportunity to put money in there pockets.

I think today is not the right time for a metaverse because one of it's driving points is it would involve the majority of the worlds population being involved instead we have mostly a small minority of people who are from around 30 mostly western countries that represents less then a billion people in a world of almost 9 billion people from almost 200 countries.

The current ideas and proposed forms of a metaverse leaves out others ideas/viewpoints and input and shows while Facebook talks about diversity and free expression it's just a good smokescreen your getting nothing new or groundbreaking just tech repackaged/relabeled.

I just think this whole thing is corrupted with things we have yet to move away from like government control, imperialism, technocracy, plutocracy.

Maybe in 30yrs we could see new technology were a metaverse could be something more mainstream with it existing to enhance our day to day lives especially with AR combined with new advanced 3D Hologram Technology

I don't even think Meta is competing with SL but more of Sansar and whatever else is trying to be the next 'thing' while SL is in its own small market and doing well because it's owners have learned the hype train is nothing but a financial slow ride in a Hurst.

Meta will not be the next metaverse it will likely become roommates in a one bedroom apartment with it's soulmate MySpace.
