  1. The Gray ear thing (EvoX). If not wearing a universal layer at all, face will appear gray. If wearing a universal layer with NONE set as the texture option for that channel, object will be clear / invisible. I think of it as grey = undetermined, none = none For bakes on Mesh purposes, The way I visualize universals, tattoos, and clothing layers, as well as body skin, system eyes, system hair / hairbase is: They are Containers for the 11 possible Bake Channels, and can hold one texture per channel slot. Only the universal contains all the slots, so the other layers are more limited in scope. In an idealized setting (like a universal layer), think of a Layer as an image with a singular function. This image would be divided into the component textures assigned to the relevant channels. Those then are ready to be worn/added and 'broadcast' to an object face. The object face itself is the item that 'decides' what channel to grab. The object face itself is the item that 'instructs' the How the texture will map (paint) the object. So that means one needs to mod the left arm to grab the left arm tattoo channel, and one needs to have a layer that holds the relevant textures in that channel. Now in actual practice it is a bit more jumbled.. but that is another story. Ruth 2.0 with interchangeable / separate object feet has been available for years. It's free. That and the 1$L and 10$L versions don't appear to have caused that much damage. Of course Most of the why to pick a body type is going to be artistic esthetics of the whole body. This is what drives the desire to upgrade / change / spend money. It is more that one can consider interchangeable feet as the lesser option to 'automagic flipper feet' as found in the high end bodies. Since is not automagic and uses up an additional attachment point or two.
  2. She is right. That is a potential workaround. Makes a system that Bakes on Mesh type feet, but used in the style of old shoes with attached feet. So the new users can just figure out the 'current common method' after they pay for a body. Did they fix the bug where sometimes a face would just revert from None to Blend anyway?
  3. Scared that someone might appropriately texture it?
  4. It is still there. Works noticeably on Linden Ground or 'real Prims' when running a stand or walk that does not animate the ankle. Is also seen when the AO glitches and one is sliding off a hill or TP's into a surface. That weird fast flip squatting twitch thing is part of that chain.
  5. That. Even if current mechanism of exchanging the visible mesh foot is imperfect, it is more reliable than having to constantly debug .. Yet another 'Little Exception'. Since the whole notion is to lessen the 'accumulation of get mad and play another one of them Video games, because this 'stuff makes no sense things'. It is useful / imperfect compromise.
  6. Would been rigged to other bones, right. So risks conflicts with other anims. Like how some avatar addons not work with some AO's.
  7. Test the mechanics of the Ruth2 v4 - Mesh Avatar on the Marketplace, is free Is not the 'Full feature Flipper Feet'. Is is the interchange the mesh feet solution.
  8. Aya. Is just getting them to the upgrade point. Oh and Mid Heels. -KC- Maia are Nice ones.
  9. No not a Dumb Question at All. You can't animate the foot, just the ankle .. to a degree. Is why there are ankle locks that one plays when wearing heels. For the heel and toe rotation: I think it was due to 2 things: stuff with how feet can interact with Linden Land, and even if you rotate heel and toe, someone will come along and upload a priority 6 chair or dance anim and break it. Hence the solution is to have a different shape mesh and elevate the shape. Foot shaper or Hover Hight.
  10. Well I figure they want to have new users buying the Full Feature Bodies and Heads. All the neat options and things that make them easier to use / work with preexisting content. You don't want to damage that section of the economy. Is just will they dip their toe in to SL far enough to want to do that? While it looks to be just an aesthetic decision: flats or heels? It is the 'Teaching That one has to 'Do A THING' to change the shape of the Foot Mesh' to do that.
  11. I will have to look at that AO. I understand why they would do the under 30/90 day thing, if they do.. well... maybe they pass out copies to Mentors anyway. I pass people the AX-001 or AX-002. That way when I am showing them the AO, I can gyazo a screenshot or vid & mimic what they can look like inworld as well. Of course.. Is all well and good... UNTIL THEY ASK ABOUT HIGH HEELS! LOL Now that does sound like a joke, but... Recalling other threads and other posts and the How it takes HOURS to bring someone up to speed on avatar configuration.... The Option Could have been: change out your shoes, mesh feet, & shoe base / foot shaper. Now is... Well? Um? Er? Hmmm? You see.. Uh?
  12. Of course. But since they did get pulled back out of the library, Last chance Y'all. Just saw off them legs about mid calf and reship them with flat and heel options, don't forget to include corresponding shoebases (modify) of the correct height. Sorta fits in with all that whole New Users Getting Help from Mentors thing? And don't worry, they will upgrade bodies soon enough. Because even more SHOES! (and compatibility with other parts 'Wink Wink, Nod Nod') Might work better than just waiting for New users to get heels or go to a shoe store, and then get mad at SL there.
  13. Aya. Most places one might look askance at that. Most places. But... At least is easier to say to a new user. Take that thing on the screen off and put this new thing on. Ya know, one of the AO's that makes you look like you have ants in your pants. Baby Steps / Training Wheels and all that Blah Blah
  14. But Seriously... As long as there is at least a HUD, Like 'What the Big Kids (Us) Wear' is a Good thing. You have to get them used to the 'concept' of HUD controls. Of course if you wanted to be fancy, could include a ground sit button just for 'Hey! Look! It can do more than one thing!', even if one can ground sit via other means, too.
  15. Good. Was not expecting an Alpha Cut Hud. But a Avatar AO in HUD form, and a hand animation selector HUD with the 'missing' foot flipper controls are BASIC equipment.
  16. Library Linden / Alexandria Linden, A rather harsh Mistress?
  17. Yup. They can pull things from Library and reissue them. Have done that in the past with the last series of Starter Avas when perms were borked. Question: Were there any of HUD's included?
  18. Just a Guess, but... Something like 'Well we don't want to include all those 'Confusing Technical' features found on the higher end bodies. After all, Female Avatars wanting to wear heels? Who would construe that as a BASIC function? One that could help sell 'Just a Barbie' on the idea to 'Level Up her SL Achievements' and start paying for a Dream House.
  19. Doing that would negate having the feet be Bakes on Mesh and grabbing the skin texture from the lower body channel.
  20. The bodies don't appear to have separate leg pieces like Ruth 2.0, nor did they appear to have separate faces for the feet. So the 'Fix to wear Heels', is going to be 'Have fun teaching them how one changes to a new body'. A body with either flipper feet or interchangeable legs. Well.... I mean there could be a market to recycle the old old shoes with the built in prim feet? Of course they will need to learn a skin matching HUD. Really though, shouldn't be a problem, right? I think there is a scene in the Movie where Barbie has flat feet.
  21. Part of it is not just the Looks of the Body. Part is going to be the overall ease of use including extensibility and flexibility of addons to the new body. Not the 'Well it is Bakes on Mesh' part. The can you use different textures on left and right arm? How will the feet work in respect to flats v/s heels? and so on.
  22. I know. Some people are just not the Lego-type. I think the part where SL is losing the ones that are the 'Lego-type' is the inability to make things straightforward. Of course it is a learn by doing thing, and it's a thing that is a mix of LL and User made content. Example: It has been a few years now that the starter avatars have an AO. An invisible wearable AO. Not a HUD. It doesn't have to be a HUD, of course. Why have a HUD? It is only the 'ecosystem that developed. The one that experienced users are familiar with using. A standard on the end user's screen item that lets them know 'Oh! that's a HUD!'. One that even has an on/off button so they can be instructed to cycle it when the animation borks. But that's okay. Instead we get to go thru the 'how to take it off and put it back on' or the 'choose a new avatar'. Just remember if you show them a screenshot of where to find it in inventory, their system folders may look different. This can cause worry, so just reassure them. Can even give them a hug. Provides a chance to teach how to accept animation permissions. And yes... they Do lose the ones that Would 'get SL', eventually.
  23. Yup. That is the 'very hard part'. Even if you get the options arranged right in the viewer. Then it is avatar assembly. Sorting thru Google's detritus to figure out what a thing means. And so on ......
