  1. I am going to stick "to the topic" lets ask THOUSANDS who left SL never to return. It is like a cafe that recently opens it is crowded, BUT over a period time you have approx. 1/10 of the customers left. There is something wrong with your food & or SERVICE. There is one LL/SL rule I like to changed immediately related to this Forum...off topic name calling = banned for life from this Forum via your IP address. Your remarks are off topic & shall be reported to the moderator.AND LL
  2. I can say that AMD graphics do not perform as well as Nvidia does *in SL*. I can tell you I use W/10 Home x64 (AMD graphics card) on only one of my pcs on my home network & I use Linux on the others, so as to post accurate answers; instead of reading off some LL/SL notes. I do know on my W/10 pc there were recently "AMD" graphics drivers updates. I suspect this maybe your problem. Perform a clean install of your AMD APU driver this means removing ALL AMD folders off your drive C, ( be sure to re-boot your pc after uninstalling your current graphics driver & be sure to turn off your antivirus protection BEFORE installing your graphics driver) also when removing Firestorm you need to remove all Firestorm folders **& secondlife folders too (re-boot your pc) before re-installing any other viewer. In addition, before the viewer re-installation process make sure you first turn off your antivirus protection.. You are using AMD-APU graphics, so I advise you to try the latest (2017) Singularity-Windows x64 viewer; instead of Firestorm. Build 6915 http://alpha.singularityviewer.org/alpha/ You have another issue too, not enough RAM. IF possible & your motherboard will hold it you need a min. 10GB...12GB would be better if you spend long sessions in SL. This RAM advice is based upon my recent testing of both Firestorm & Singularity (2017) viewers on W/10 Home x64 & current Debian Linux distros too. Furthermore, make sure your Windows power plan is not set to "balanced", but to "high performance" (Bing this info) Also, there are services you can disable in W/10 that will increase overall performance. Type: services in the Cortana search box & click on "services desktop app...a new window will open to a list of services. Double click on each one I list below one at a time & a smaller window will appear to the right of "startup type click on that down arrow...select "disable"...click on "Apply"...click on "OK"...after disabling the ones I list below re-boot your pc I am assuming you do not use Fax, or a Xbox: (3) Xbox services ALL Hyper-V services Microsoft SMS router service Fax service dmwappushsvc (3) Sensor services Connected User Experiences & Telemetry Hope this helps some of you!! 3. Hello Kaitlin, after recently testing both Firestorm & Singularity (2017) viewers on Windows 10 Home x64, Ubuntu (Linux) 14.04 x64, Ubuntu 16.04 x64 & Linux Mint 18 (Sarah) x64 I discovered; especially on Firestorm's viewers you better have at least min. of 10-12 GB system RAM IF you plan on long sessions in SL. Sorry I do not quote LL/SL notes, I run tests. IF I were to purchase a laptop for approx. $1,000.00 I'd choose this one: https://www.amazon.com/MSI-GL72-7RD-028-Performance-i7-7700HQ/dp/B01MS1T197/ref=sr_1_3?m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1485960108&sr=1-3&keywords=msi+gaming+laptop&refinements=p_6%3AATVPDKIKX0DER This laptop has 16GB RAM & a Nvidia GTX 1050 with 2GB DDR5 memory, so you would not have to ugrade again in the near future. As for ASUS they build good pc components, but I'd not buy one of their pcs. "I Love Simplicity"
  4. Tis a sad state indeed. Here is an example of why people have stopped being so open to chatting with you in SL. Picture this: you've been joking around with a female who has joked back with you constantly & no flirting. This has been going on for weeks. Her b/f gets jealous, so he tells you stop chatting with her "give it a rest." You call him what he is acting like, but her b/f is also a "special" buddy (empowered to ban ppl) of a sim owner of a sim you frequently visit...well not any more you've been banned via the kiddish jealous b/f. Yet another example, you've began a conversation with a female who tells she is an "escort", so you inform her you are not interested in a polite manner, but she reports you to the sim owner for being "rude"...you are banned anyway! These are just two unfair examples of why SL residents are not more open to conversing. Until LL policies change you'll continue to see a dwindling SL population. "I Love Simplicity"
  5. UPDATED 1/31/17- NEW GTX 1050ti out by PNY it has a PCI-E 6 pin connection, clocked higher, and allows greater overclocking since it uses your psu to feed it power. Solely for SL use I'd advise the 2GB version, but SL use/pc gamer I'd go with the 4GB model. Although not the most powerful card it is more than enough for SL use. Both are currently available at BestBuy: 2GB ver. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/pny-xlr8-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1050-ti-2gb-gddr5-pci-express-3-0-graphics-card-black/5711723.p?skuId=5711723 4GB ver. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/pny-xlr8-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1050-ti-4gb-gddr5-pci-express-3-0-graphics-card-black/5711724.p?skuId=5711724 Yes, I know this is an old thread, BUT a commonly asked question. This is a lot of bang for your money that will run SL well. FYI none of the Nvidia GTX 1xxxx series GPUs support an analog signal, so a VGA adapter will not work! You could go for the gusto & buy a GTX 1080, but just for SL use it would be major overkill. "I Love Simplicity"
  6. A NEW GTX 1050ti version is out by PNY...it uses a PCI-E 6pin connection, it is clocked higher & will allow higher overclocking too. It is currently available at BestBuy I'd advise using the 2Gb version solely for SL use & the 4Gb version if you use pc games too. 2Gb ver. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/pny-xlr8-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1050-ti-2gb-gddr5-pci-express-3-0-graphics-card-black/5711723.p?skuId=5711723 4GB ver. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/pny-xlr8-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1050-ti-4gb-gddr5-pci-express-3-0-graphics-card-black/5711724.p?skuId=5711724 Baed upon my recent testing of Firestorm & Singularity (2017) viewers on Windows 10 Home x64, Ubuntu 14.04 x64, Ubuntu 16.04 x64 & Linux Mint 18 (Sarah) x64 I am now advising a min. 10-12 GB system RAM. On your system I'd go with 12 GB RAM & here are some services on Windows 10 Home x64 you can disable, which increases overall pc speed/SL performance. In the Cortana search text box type: services...click on services desltop app...window will open...disable all below listed services one at a time by double clicking on the service..a smaller window will open...to the right of "startup type" click on the down arrow...selecy "disable"...click "Apply"...click "OK"...after dsabling them all re-boot your pc. I am assuming you are not using a Xbox, or Fax. Disable the following- (3) Xbox services ALL Hyper-V services Microsoft SMS router service Fax service dmwappushsvc (3) Sensor services Connected User Experiences & Telemetry Also make sure you have changed your Windows power plan from "balanced" to "high performance" (bing it) Yes, I know this thread is old, BUT is a commonly asked question too. Jane's system could use a more powerful graphics card, but the topic here is SL Forum, & not a gaming Forum LOL IF you have never installed RAM, or a graphics card there are lots of videos on YouTube to show you how! Newegg is a great place to buy from; however if you get a DOA, defective item(s) or need a prompt refund buyer beware. Although Newegg has an A+ BBB rating they also have over 1000+ valid BBB complaints against them to, which means 1000+ customers had to resort to filing a BBB complaint . I remember a certain terrorist member who had an A+ BBB rating since he bought a BBB membership. I can say Amazon & Bestbuy has never failed to resolve my issues within 48 hrs to my satisfaction; thus I recommend them over Newegg. "I Love Simplicity"
  7. The issue most likely is your APU-AMD graphics. For solely SL use Nvidia graphics work best. Usually with AMD graphics you'll experience slower rezzing (FPS) along with mesh rezzing issues. Here is just a suggestion: https://www.amazon.com/MSI-GE62-Apache-Pro-239-i7-6700HQ/dp/B01D8VJ0B2/ref=sr_1_1?m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1485813714&sr=1-1&keywords=msi+gaming+laptop&refinements=p_6%3AATVPDKIKX0DER On W/10 Home x64 there are some things you can disable to make W/10-SL perform better. In the Cortana search box type: "services" ...then click on "services desktop app" ...a window opens showing all running services. You'll need to disable all services I list below by double clicking on each one...a smaller window will open....to the right of "startup type" click on the down arrow...select "disable"...click "Apply"...click "OK"...after you have disable all the services listed below you need to re-boot your pc. I am assuming you are not using a Xbox, nor need fax. Disable List (3) Xbox services (ALL) Hyper-V services Microsoft SMS router service Fax service dmwappushsvc (3) Sensor services Connected User Experiences & Telemetry This not only severely hinders Micro$oft from data mining your personal info, but it does speed up W/10 & SL performance. 8. Making friends in SL at times can be challenging, but here is my two cents worth on this topic: A- Treat others with respect. B- Attempt to make conversation after looking at his/her profile seeking common interests. C- Complimets are nice, except when overdone & too often. D- I agree with others here stay in sims that are of interest to you. Although you can be civilized, & respectful to all here is the downside to attempting to make SL friends A- Always going be that person(s) trying to prove how smart they are & when they run into some with superior intelligence he/she becomes obsessed with trying to get you banned, so as to have bragging rights "see he/she was not that smart see what I did.." Unfortunately, SL appears to be "selective" on reprimanding these "stalkers." B- The "cyber bullying" by people with no real life, so play tough person in SL. No matter how polite you are he/she is only out to degrade others to fill that empty void in real life. The more you ignore them the more determined (obsessed) he/she becomes with tearing you down. Currently SL appears to be "selective" on enforcement against this cowardly & immature behavior. C- Do not cut others' avatars/appearnce down. It is far easier to tear someone down than to lift up another's self-esteem. D- Be careful taking to females; especially if their SL b/f is one those "special" friends of a sim owner empowered with banning rights who may become jealous of you, or you could find yourself banned from your favorite sim(s). There is no perfect formula for making friends in SL. "I Love Simplicity"
  9. I have a neighbor/SL resident using an Intel LGA 1155 socket G1620 dual core Celeron @ 2.7GHz and he is having no issues using SL as of today (1/30/17) with his self built desktop. I used to be an AMD GPU fanboy til approx. 1 year ago LInux-AMD drivers began to cause operating system instability & mesh did not want to load. If you sift through this Forum there are many having-had AMD GPU issues with SL. I can say after I bought a Nvidia GPU I have seen the team green light, but I am waiting for AMD's release (around 3/1/17) of their new Ryzen CPUs. IF they are on par with current Intel CPUs I am buying one-new motherboard, DDR4 RAM, etc. "I Love Simplicity"
  10. Ohh c'mon trussst me mail it to me LOL "I Love SImplicity"
  11. Trying to use a wireless router to connect to SL can be troublesome & not recommended. A closeby router, ham radio operator, baby monitor, cb radio,a smart phone close to your router etc can interfere with your wireless signal. Look up in your router's manual (always keep it) how to change WiFi "channel" usualy you can manually pick 1-8 & see if this helps. By default it is set to "auto" Try using http://www.speedtest.net while manually selecting a server on the western area of the USA (Ca, or Az) see what your download & ping (lag) times are. I'd run at least six speed tests. Does your ping or download speeds fluctuate alot? IF so call your ISP have them perform a service call check out your modem, etc IF not try going hardwired (Ethernet cable) see if you still have SL disconnect issues. IF this does not work you may have some software conflict issue. Always make sure you are using the correct software drivers too. Is your router going bad?? If nothing else works try disabling your antivirus just long enough to login to SL see if this resolves the issue. The worst case scenario have you upset some in SL recently? There are hackers in SL & although I am NOT one, nor do I condone hacking I do know it is possible for a hacker to gain control of your pc. This is why when I used to use Windows in SL I replaced the Windows firewall/antivirus with ZoneAlarm (free) since it alerts you to an attempted firewall breach/virus attack & tracks the hacker's IP address, which LL & or your local authorities might find useful. IF all else fails assuming you have a Windows OS disk try a clean install of your operating system. Hope I have been of some help! http://www.zonealarm.com/ "I Love Simplicity"
  12. First off you can manually select a server toward the west coast, USA via http://www.speedtest.net I used to have to use satellite Internet (horrible) for SL even though I suffered major packet losses I never had issues of random disconnections. Random SL connection loss can be tricky, indeed to pinpoint. IF using a wireless router connection (not recommended) you are at the mercy of nearby routers, cb radios, any ham radio in the area, baby monitors, etc... In addition, it can be caused by ISP issues, or even *faulty hardware not to mention a Windows software conflict. It can be tedious & time consuming to resolve. "I Love Simplicity"
  13. Interesting ty for the info "I Love Simplicity"
  14. I was hoping to get a yes or no answer, but its all good; however I am not a Twitter fan. Not just picking on Twitter; since I am not a FaceBook, Google, nor Micro$oft fanboy. "I Love Simplicity"
  15. If I undedrstand you correctly you are asking are there 3rd party viewers that are bento compliant. Yes and if you are using an AMD graphics card your best bet is the latest Singularity (2017) viewers for both Windows & Linux (have tested the new Linux test build & it works with bento.) AMD cards seem to work best with Singularity viewers. I also tested the latest Phoenix Firestorm viewer although bento compatible it is a huge system RAM hog along with being sluggish compared to 2017 Singularity viewer (s). Furthermore, I discovered using the latest Singularity Linux viewer 8GB system RAM works fine; however on the latest Firestorm Linux viewer you'll need a min. 12GB system RAM, IF you spend a prolonged amount of time in SL. What happens on Windows when your system RAM is low it is replaced with Windows virtual memory, which really slows down pc performance. When a Debian Linux distro runs low of system RAM it performs a memory swap removing RAM from the program using it & adding it back into the system RAM also slowing down performance. I want to thank SL's Singularity Viewer Group for informing me about their latest viewer(s) Latest Linux Singularity x64 (bento compatible) viewer select Singularity Test 1 8 7 6915 x86 64.tar.xz (link below) http://67.170.30.149/ Latest Windows Singularity viewer Build 6915 http://alpha.singularityviewer.org/alpha/ Latest Firestorm Linux x32 & x64 viewers: http://www.firestormviewer.org/linux/ Latest Firestorm Windows x32 & x64 viewers: http://www.firestormviewer.org/windows/ Currently, if you use your pc solely for SL it is best to use a Nvidia graphics card for best overall performance. In addition; due to technology advances/changes I will soon be re-posting/modifying previous Forum answers, which I have done above. "I Love Simplicity"
  16. I used to be an AMD fanboy for using SL, but Linux AMD drivers affect distro stability & have mesh rezzing issues too. I have in the past referred Windows users to try the latest Singularity viewers since these tend to work best for AMD GPU owners. I switched to the green team (Nvidia) GPUs and they seem to overall perform best in SL. Singularity Windows Build 6915: http://alpha.singularityviewer.org/alpha/ I am anxiously awaiting the new AMD Ryzen CPUs. Their release date is rumored to be approx. 3/1/17.... After I see several 3rd party benchmark tests on the new AMD CPUs & IF they are actually on par with current Intel processors I plan on purchasing one. FYI I discovered the SL Singularity Viewer Group to be very helpful when I asked questions about their 2017 viewers! "I Love Simplicity"
  17. Nice laptop, but your main issue is most likely your ATI graphics. Currently Nvidia graphics work best with SL & have no current issues. I have read where many having/using ATI-AMD graphics have had good luck using the latest 3rd party Singularity viewers (bento compatible) Here is their link: Build 6915 - http://alpha.singularityviewer.org/alpha/ Also, you'd be better off increasing your laptop RAM to 8GB (2 x 4GB) max RAM your laptop will hold. If you have upgraded to Windows 10 Home x64 here are a few things you can disable in W/10 to increase pc/SL performance: In the Cortana search box type: services....& click on "services desktop app" a new window will open & assuming you are NOT using a Xbox, nor need Fax disable the following by by double clicking on each service listed below one at a time...a new smaller window will appear, to the right of "startup type" click the down arrow...select "disable"...click "Apply"...you'll need to re-boot your pc after disabling all services listed below one at a time: (3) Xbox services ALL Hyper-V services Microsoft SMS router service Fax service dmwappushsvc (important to disable) (3) Sensor services Connected User Experiences & Telemetry By disabling the above listed services it increases your pc/SL performance, frees up some system Ram, frees up some hardrive space & severly limits Micro$oft'$ "data mining" of your personal info "I Love Simplicity"
  18. I assume Ebbe Linden is going to part ways with SL then?? "I Love Simplicity"
  19. Currently (1/30/17) best viewer I tested for Linux (Ubuntu 14.04 x64, Ubuntu 16.04 x64, & Linux Mint 18 x64) is the latest Singularity Linux test build viewer Singularity 1 8 7 6915 x86 64 tar.xz (bento compatible) http://67.170.30.149/ The above download should be auto saved to your downloads folder, go to your "downloads" file click on it see the viewer tar.xz file? Now move your mouse pointer all way to the upper left side of your screen & click on "Edit"...click on "Preferences"...click on "Behavior"...select "run executable text files when they are opened"...close this window...go back to the viewer tar.xz file you downloaded....right click on it...click on "Properties"...click on "Permissions"...select "allow executing file as a program"...close this window...right click on Singularity viewer tar.xz file you downloaded & select "extract here"...it creates a folder for you...at this point I like to delete (send to Trash) the tar.xz by right clicking it & selecting send to trash...now all we have is the created folder... left click it twice...see the data sheet labled "singularity"...click on it and the viewer will open....all you'll need to do to re-open the viewer later after logging out is go to back to your "downloads" files see the created folder and click on it...click on the data sheet labeled "singularity" again. If anyone needs more help using this viewer seek the Singularity Viewer Group via SL they were extremely helpful for me! "I Love Simplicity"
  20. Yes, Linux has a learning curve, but so does WIndows 10. After you get Linux (Ubuntu 16.04 x64) setup it is easier/faster than WIndows using SL.So here we go setting up the latest (fastest I have tested to date) & this procedure works for all Linux viewers too: Singularity Linux test build viewer Singularity 1 8 7 6915 x86 64 tar.xz (bento compatible) http://67.170.30.149/ The above download should be auto saved to your downloads folder, go to your "downloads" file click on it see the viewer tar.xz file? That is a nice processor you have, BUT solely using SL Nvidia GPUs give better performance/less mesh issues than current AMD GPUs; however many AMD graphics card owners are having good luck with the Singularity viewer(s) I gave up approx. 1 year ago on stable Linux-AMD GPU drivers, but this might help you. I have NOT tested this driver: http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/AMDGPU-PRO-Driver-for-Linux-Release-Notes.aspx Intel i5 CPUs are fast as for me I am awaiting AMD's release of the new Ryzen processors (rumored to be approx. 3/1/17), but I am not buying one til I see 3rd party tests/benchmarks to validate they are on par with Intel's current offerings. IF they are since I have not upgraded in years I plan on finally spending the bucks for one/new motherboard/DDR4 RAM "I Love Simplicity"
  21. I am not a Mac user, but this might be of help to you: http://www.singularityviewer.org/downloads They do have "archived" viewers too, but I do not know if this is any help to you or not. I wish you luck! "I Love Simplicity"
  22. I got the inside scoop, LL rolled out Lag: version 3.0, which will be compatible with the soon to be released AMD Ryzen processors. Lag 3.0 is LL's most advanced Lag software ever developed Some of its key features are autoLag, a new Lag slider control in LL's latest SL viewer starts at "bad: you can adjust it up to "worst" too; along with an all new option: Lagware. LOL of course I am joking or am I!???????? ahahahahahha Fiction over Fact (LOL)
  23. Good question, when I used Windows (in SL) my preferred choice of *free* firewall/virus protection was Zone Alarm. Its firewall tracks any hacker's IP address who attempts to breach it & it does a good job on viruses too alerting you if you get one & auto isolating it. You can aslo password protect settings, so as to prevent the firewall/antivirus from being turned off easily. http://www.zonealarm.com/ "I Love Simplicity"
  24. Nice system!! MOre than enough pc power to use SL. After trying the latest (1/30/17) 3rd party Windows viewers ( especially Firestom) I'd highly advise you to consider at least 12GB RAM (1x8Gb + 1x4GB) or more to be safe for prolonged use of SL. Also, out of the years I built pcs I seen the most psu failures with: Corsair & Rosewill. In addition, Newegg has the worst RMA/refund policies. I have never had issues with Amazon, or BestBuy that were not resolved quickly! Newegg maybe cheaper at times, but IF should run into a problem (DOA, defective component or need a quick refund for any reason buyer beware.) As for me I awaitng the AMD release of their new Ryzen CPUs (rumored to be approx. 3/1/17) that support PCI-E 3.0, DDR4 RAM; however I will have to see some 3rd party online tests/benchmarks before I make a purchase of one-new motherboard-DDR4 RAM, etc "I Love Simplicity"
