  1. Hello Animats, thank you for your reply and for suggesting the private rez areas in Sanchon, Jinsil and Scandium, which are made available to the public by their respective owners. I support those locations and will keep them in mind. Sanchon and Scandium are great for small leisure crafts like sail and motor boats. Unfortunately, the beautiful piers in Sanchon and Scandium are not so suitable to rez sizable cargo ships for maritime simulations (that's the roleplay that myself and others are into, I have one such ship depicted on my profile picture 🛳️ ). But cargo ships too are used by some groups in SL, such as the GTFO group, for example. One rez area in an open sea sim like, for example, Joseon , would allow people to rez "chunkier" cargo ships without encroaching or interfering with nearby land plots in the area. Sacrelle is currently set to the Jeogeot Gulf Maintenance Group. In my understanding, that means it can be used for both wargaming roleplay (such as the one done in Tulagi region, which I am happy to support and salute 🖐️), and non-wargaming sailing activities, such as cargo ships or leisure boats (Lindens please correct me on this if I'm wrong; that has been my understanding, at least). The point is, in my view, the existing terraforming in Sacrelle (featuring multiple, protruding spikes of land) unintendedly hampers both wargaming and non-wargaming activities. So, if the sea bottom in Sacrelle was made more flat, the same level and as pervious as in most of the other Jeogeot Gulf sea sims, it would likely create a win-win situation for all those interested in the success of the Jeogeot Gulf itself. The Drivers of SL groups is soo much fun, let's keep doing that! One more thing, it is important that, when rez areas are built, maker also keeps in mind the need of those who rez slightly bigger ships, such as cargo ships, and make the rez areas big enough for that. ☺️ 🛳️ ⛴️ 🛥️ 🚢
  2. Hello! Below are some proposals/suggestions/ideas for the Moles regarding the great new sea regions near Bellisseria, as well as the now connected Jeogeot Gulf. ☺️ 1) Why not add a rez area in the northeast corner of Joseon sim (or a nearby sea sim) ? Sailors or seaplane pilots would need a rez area to rez their vehicle before crossing the beautiful new channel to Bellisseria, or before sailing/flying south to the Jeogeot Gulf. Same NE corner rez area could be created in Grand Banks sim, for those starting to fly from the north southwards. 2) unfortunately, the current terraforming in Sacrelle region is not allowing navigation nor land-based activities. Why not terraform the region as sea sim or land sim (personally, I would vote for sea sim!) ? Ideally, water depth could be the same as in the contiguous sims. Same could be done to similar, shallow sims in the Jeogeot Gulf: Gam , Demien , Chiyok , Dagjin , Subak. Unfortunately, as they are now, such beautiful sims are hard to use for either sailing or land-based activities/ roleplay; that's a pity, in my modest opinion. 3) to go the extra mile, a rez area could be created in the northeast corner of some of the sims forming the main channel south of Bellisseria. That would permit an easy re-rez in case of crash of ships/aircraft crossing the channel. For example, one such rez area could be created every 2 or 3 sims. The same rez areas could also be made in the new sims connecting the Jeogeot Gulf to the Pyri Funfair sims. 4) and fourth, thank you for your awesome work! ☺️ ☺️ ☺️

I'm not sure whether they are exactly related to this thread, if not please forgive me and perhaps direct me to the right one. 4. Hi everybody, there is already an older thread about connecting the continents. Connect the Continents: https://community.secondlife.com/forums/topic/423453-connect-the-continents/?page=8 Why don't we continue there? There is a lot of information in the previous posts in there. 😊
  5. The following information should be provided by LL: Accurate and thorough explanations of the technical and economical reasons why the various solutions proposed in the previous posts would be, or not be, doable. An accurate and thorough estimate of the exact costs of each of the proposed solutions. (Also, some guidance to interested users on how to proceed on what needs to be bought (if any) would help too, but it's not a requirement). If compiling the information at points 1) and 2) requires much time and costly hours of work on LL side, fine, we would perfectly understand that. Then LL should produce a quote of how much it costs to just carry on that estimate. In other words, interested users could pay LL for the time needed to compile the quotes of costs and technical aspects at points 1) and 2). Not unlike in RL, when you ask a contractor for a quote of the prospective costs for renovation work in your home, it is normal and understandable that you pay him something for the time needed to compile the estimate (yes, some may do the quote for free, I know). Doing the above points 1) to 3) would be primarily in the interest of their business. It should be done even if only ONE SL USER requests it. So, it is not a valid argument, in my opinion, for some people in this forum to say that the members of the aviation/sailing/driving communities are "a minority", therefore they can be overlooked (LL did not say that, some contributors of this forum did). Not doing things like those at points 1) to 3) every time is requested, may help decreasing the general interest of the public in the awesome virtual world of Second Life. Then people would wonder "Uhm.. how come the user base of SL kept growing until a certain year, and then it suddenly stopped"?
  6. I definitely support the idea of a strip of watery Open Space sims. If you do read the previous posts, I said that I support the idea, totally. Where did I say that I don't? That's a great idea. But it's not the only idea (it is OKAY to put more than one idea on the table). Here at the ConnectTheContinents forum, we consider other solutions as well. In fact, your post came with really good timing, because, these very days, I am trying to buy multiple Open Space sims. LL have just announced a discount from $75 to $60 monthly fee, and I am seriously interested. However, I do not own a full sim (that's a prerequisite to buy 1 or more Open Space sims), and I am not interested in one full sim, as I have really no use for it. But I have a use for multiple Open Space ones. Basically, I am looking for at least one reliable full-sim owner to team up with. I would be paying for the Open Space sims, while he/she provides the full sim (that could be a full sim he already owns). That said, the other idea of a bridge continent of any kind, remains one of my favorites. ( and I'm not talking of touching your beloved Zindra, God forbade! I was teasing )
  7. So far there have been many very, very interesting ideas in this forum on how to connect continents... So grateful to all contributors. I think I'll go ahead and start collecting and compiling the ideas exposed in the forum so far, they will come handy in the operational phase. Folks, I believe it's just matter of time and the beautiful continents of SL will be communicating!
  8. I once heard that at some point, many years ago, teleportation of objects was enabled and tested by Linden Lab. However, it was rapidly and permanently disabled because of security reasons. It apparently created unmanageable problems of hacking and griefing. I am not 100% sure if this story is true, but I personally think it is. In fact, LL never brought back such technical solution, or even floated it. And LL have all interest in introducing such technical innovations inworld, as it would increase customer interest and traffic in SL. So, if we still haven't seen region portals in SL, it may be because it is not really viable for security or other technical reasons. That said, I appreciate those who proposed the region portal idea and their contribution to the discussion (a.k.a. I'm not arguing against you). On the other hand, the idea of creating/moving sims to create a bridge or connecting continent between the 2 main landmasses (Satori and Sansara/Heterocera) may be a big challenge, but it is totally possible.
  9. IceCold made a pretty accurate description of Zindra, I agree. In my modest opinion, all that display of obscenity in Second Life is #deplorable and a stain on the image and the otherwise remarkable work of Linden Lab. But I guess I'm just being backwards, so I'll stop here. Certainly, if all those sims in Zindra were reclaimed and used to build a useful connecting continent between Satori and Heterocera, that would be much better, in my opinion.
  10. I would make that journey, and I know others who would as well... But if the "bridge" was actually made of inhabited clusters of sims, as it's been illustrated in previous posts, people would actually live in the "bridge" as in any other part of mainland. That would provide places to visit for pilots/sailors, or they could just depart from there as their home. I'm not against the hypothetical portal, of course, although it's not as fun to me as actually flying/sailing.
  11. By reading the previous posts, one can easily see that the longest bridge would be at most 90 to 100 sims. And that would not even conflict with any existing sims in it's path. I'm not even keeping into account that individual sims can be easily repositioned, as there are no technical obstacles to that. As for the costs, many great ideas are being thrown in this forum, which would make the costs sustainable. Many such ideas are all listed in previous posts in this forum. About the proposed region portal, well... if that can be built, I am all for that. But until it becomes reality, we can't party, I suppose...
  12. Actually Mainland is not deserted at all, there are lots of people living there. I live on Mainland, and I see a lot of green dots around me all the time. Am I hallucinating?... Maybe lol And there are also lots of people flying or driving inland everyday, not just on the sea sims. None of that would ever be possible in standalone sims.
  13. - Great idea, animats! Placing a string of Linden Homes regions between continents may work. - Moving existing Linden Homes regions to create a bridge may also work. Linden Homes regions should be easy to move because they are simple in structure, with relatively few objects in it, if compared to moving a full mainland continent. - But if one really wanted to move a piece of mainland to create the bridge, I reiterate the idea of moving the Sharp Continent (http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Lewis/27/226/30), which is relatively small and already has an elongated, bridge-like shape. - Gaeta V (http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Lastness/202/63/20) could be moved too, to create the bridge (for the same reason as the Sharp Continent) and would finally find a purpose to it's life. - Or, if you were really really in the mood for moving continents, you could move the Blake Sea and USS sims to west of the Bingo Strait, in a symmetrical position to where they are now. If the Blake Sea and USS sims can beautifully sit on the east side of the Bingo Strait, why can't they beautifully sit on the west side? They themselves could benefit in traffic from being the transit point in between the 2 main land masses (Satori/Nautilus on the east and Sansara/Heterocera on the west. They could be attached to Binnacle-Orlop-Tonar sims, for example. #BlakeWestSideStory
  14. Alwin Alcott, we have the the impression that you are showing contempt for the people in this forum and their ideas. You are insulting contributors of this forum by calling them "nearly nobody". Just because you don't like them personally inworld, you come here to insult. That's uncalled for, and at least, we use our main account's name, not an alt. If this idea of connecting continents is so irritating to you, why don't you leave this forum, instead of trolling? We have not seen any constructive contribution from you so far. The appropriate thing to do is to apologize and then change tone.
