  1. "Can it run Crysis?" would be replaced by "Can it run Second Life?"
  2. Of course. Thank you for everything you do.
  3. The vast majority of computers have integrated graphics. Most people who buy a computer have no idea that there is even a differnece between integrated and dedicated graphics, so it is safe to say that there are a lot of SL users using systems with integrated graphics. The vast majority of them turn off advanced lighting model because it is too resource intensive for their computers to run. If you don't believe me, go conduct a survey or something.
  4. Oh, I'm not mad at anyone. I am just making a point that telling a significant fraction of your userbase to just buy a new computer is a stupid thing to do.
  5. Would you buy a new system for everyone in second life who can't run the new viewer? No?
  6. Oh my, you were able to do it. I will probably end up stealing some of your code for my firestorm fork, if thats ok. I and many others have a really bad case of baby duck syndrome with regards to the firestorm interface.
  7. Would you buy me and all the others a PS5 in that case? No? Then be quiet.
  8. Yep. The FPS ratio between the 2 viewers is close to what I have seen on multiple integrated graphics systems.
  9. Oh, I am complaining on behalf of a lot of others too. You think I am going to go to the trouble of forking a viewer just to keep it to myself?
  10. It will continue its slow, agonizing metamorphosis into a place where only the L$ whales live, driven to part with their disposable income by countless group notices promoting sales and events of all sorts. PBR is just another push towards this direction. But hey, that is a viable business strategy for LL. At least for a while until their network effect advantage over Opensim starts deteriorating due to the changes in the platform's userbase.
  11. I don't think you got the message. I am not interested in your financial advice. I actually have a desktop with 4 server-grade GPUs in it already that could probably run at least 8 instances of SL at once, but would like to be able to run SL on my laptop due to portability. If this new rendering engine upgrade hinders my ability to do so, I will make workarounds. Got it?
  12. Oh, any that would fit in my laptop? And will you pay for that too? Both no? Then I am sticking to my original plan to fork firestorm once the last forward-rendering version gets EOL'd. If you don't want to pay up to fix the problem, then don't tell others to. I'm not going to argue with you about this anymore.
  13. Ok, can you give me $300-$500 then? No? I will stick with my original plan then.
  14. And then they all froze to death. The end.
  15. Marketplace has millions of listings. Most people aren't going to change their stuff because of le new shiny sheeits, so we are safe unless LL decides to cull large swaths of the stores on MP.
  16. Well it is a lesson that if you don't like how something is being done, do it yourself. My solution will be to compile the last non-PBR version of Firestorm from source, but with the version blocking code removed. I will do this once they start blocking their last non-PBR viewer from logging in. Then later I want to figure out how to get the viewer to apply the base color from PBR as a diffuse texture to make things look slightly less broken, but that will take some time to learn how to do.
  17. Yes, I have tried it. All implementations run significantly worse than forward rendering on systems with integrated graphics. Me and others have elaborated on this issue before. You can find it in previous replies to this thread.
  18. All I know is that I am not going to enjoy having 5 FPS when I used to at least have 15-30. No, I'm not going to buy a new computer to compensate for *****ty development practices.
  19. Maybe I should have been more clear. It is there to make sure that anyone who does want to use PBR cannot support the legacy rendering system. In theory (but probably not in practice,) LL thinks that users will buy stuff with PBR materials more than legacy content since it looks more realistic, and those who only want to texture stuff will be pushed out of the market as a result. Eventually the goal would be to remove the option to only use diffuse textures entirely.
  20. Enabling diffuse texture editing while PBR materials are applied would be trivially easy to implement. So why is it disabled? Simple. LL wants to nudge creators into only using PBR. This will be another pressure on end users to upgrade their viewers, since more content will look broken as a result of this nudging. Of course, any sane creator will use third-party viewers, most of which should hopefully fix this issue.
  21. Yeah, there is that. Just please have mercy on us potato users, and at least put a base color texture in the diffuse slot
  22. you people took my silly analogy way too literally. too tired to explain it right now
  23. I said earlier somewhere that SL is just Roblox for adults. The more that people deny that, the worse things are going to turn out for the platform.
