  1. Back in at my home and would like to personally invite everyone to stay away. Just kidding come over if you like.
  2. I was in a little while ago but inventory items would not rename and my friend couldn't change outfit so we both logged out and now it hangs up on loading in. Asset servers are on fire again it seems......
  3. HERE IS THE JIRA REPORT FILED ON THIS TOPIC LAST WEEK Last week my JIRA report of a major bug affecting many items in Second Life including my Elite Golf System and Battle Karts was 'accepted' by LL which means the problem was reproduced by them and is 'not expected behavior'. It has also been 'triaged' which means they have put it on their to-do list of things to fix. As for when well that's anyones guess. Go to https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-228939 and click 'more' then 'watch' for updates. The issue is not affected by size of the script, region performance or object owner. It comes and goes affecting different regions on different days and is completely an LL issue with no work-around.
  4. Now that my attempt to implement VR into Second Life has flopped I will move on to my next mission, a smart phone Cigarette Lighter app. Think of the possibility, never needing to carry around a lighter. My fathers iphone burst into flames once so I know it must be possible.
  5. For those looking for VR functions, I found this: http://blog.inf.ed.ac.uk/atate/2019/09/27/firestorm-vr-6-2-4/ Not sure exactly what it is and I would be careful about trying anything.
  6. Though it dampens my optimism I thank you for your reply Tari. Especially the way in which you crafted it to avoid making me look like a noob. 😃 I suppose it will remain a wish and nothing more from what you say.
  7. If Second Life had enabled VR functions at the release of the Oculus, then SL would have gotten all of the fame that VR Chat currently has. Ask a teenager what Second Life is, you will get a blank stare. Ask them what VR Chat is and you will likely hear how great it is.
  8. There is a viewer someone is dabbling with currently, I will message you inworld.
  9. Perhaps they could fold one of the current SL VR developers from another 3rd party viewer into their ranks.
  10. If everybody gave up at the first sign of things not going right then everybody would log out of Second Life and never go back. 'Quitters' never seem to innovate much.
  11. Any addition of VR functionality would not impact the regular usage of firestorm at all. If folks don't like VR they don't need to enable it. It would be like one of the million options that the average user is unaware of, just in a more prominent tab under preferences lol.
  12. Hey, it worked for Lumiya smartphone app, and even they tried VR functionality though I never tried it.
  13. Yet you still play Second Life 😃 Nobody would expect SLVR to be perfect, SL itself is far from perfect but we all still love it. Even if VR could only be used in a skybox alone far far away, people would still love being able to use it. 'VR Chat' is extremely popular yet it is complete junk when compared to Second Life.
  14. You clicked this for one reason, you are interested in VR functionality for Second Life just like me. Linden Lab has already announced over a year ago that despite having the Oculus Rift parked on their homepage for many years, they would not be implementing VR functions into their viewer. This means it is up to 3rd party viewer developers to pick up the torch and make progress into the future, Firestorm. Before you say "it can't be done" I will point out that it HAS been done by not one but at least two 3rd party viewers already, but Control-Alt Studio is no longer updated and the other will likely not be a permanent option either. I know the official excuse, "the frame rate is not high enough in Second Life for VR" but it's not valid. Anybody with a good enough computer to handle VR to begin with means it is good enough to run SL in decent frames, and even if it didn't, low frames does not stop VR from functioning it would merely be a bit choppy. (if we didn't do things because they were choppy then most of us wouldn't even play Second Life would we) We all have known for some time that Second Life is teetering on the edge of irrelevancy and it appears to me at least that not much is being done to combat this. Firestorm, where are you? I remember a day when Firestorm was at the leading edge of developing new and cool features that were not included in the basic LL viewer package. This is precisely how Firestorm got to be as popular as it is today, but that cutting edge development seemed to slow down or even stop when Firestorm became ordained as the 'Official' 3rd party viewer with LL oversight. Granted there may be less cool little tweaks here and there to add but I find it hard to see Firestorm as more than the official viewer with a different skin these days. I know there will likely be a legion of loyal Firestorm users wanting to fill my ears with all the 'differences' between Firestorm and the Official and I want those people to understand I do love and use the Firestorm viewer, but my point is this. It has already been proven by multiple 3rd party viewers that VR capability for Second Life is not only possible but already working fairly well, and Firestorm should be that cutting edge innovator once again and push the viewer into the 21st century. I am now braced and ready for your attacks.........lol
  15. With Linden Lab removing region owners access to functions like 'disable scripts in object', shutting off voice and other abilities at social areas such as safe hubs, refusal to live up to their promise of VR support for Second Life, and massive drop in region performance since "improving" the grid by moving servers to the cloud to save money, it would seem they have no interest in keeping Second Life alive.
  16. No JIRA ticket is going to reverse this decision. I will just sit back and watch the acceleration of the mass exodus out of SL. Fewer and fewer people will play/join/stay because of these diminished rights and freedoms. The population of the grid has already massively dropped over the last few years and things like this will accelerate the inevitable demise. People pay A LOT of $$$ including myself for a region and then lose a major region performance management tool? This will not be a popular decision once sim owners realize what abilities have been ripped away from them. R.I.P.
  17. Valid point but it seems to me that clothing and attachment makers should learn from their past mistakes and stop relying on scripts to enforce their 'demos'. If they put in a little extra effort with demo textures on their products or added a demo prim that cannot be removed then this argument would be moot. If I learned that people were doing this it would be the very last time I ever used that method of demo enforcement.
  18. Here is an example: LL: "People are spamming a billion particles that stay for an hour!" EASY NON-SOLUTION: "Lets disable all particles forever" REAL SOLUTION: "Lets put limits on particle amount and lifespan" Since obviously many people are affected by the disappearance of particles forever, a workaround solution was devised and implemented. Far fewer people are affected by this removal of sim owner/manager abilities so the easy non-solution route was apparently taken.
  19. I own everything in my region, and it would not be permanent if (and I have posted this about a zillion times now) if they would enable 'run scripts' function on no mod objects. P.S. If you actually had read my original post you would see exactly what I use the function for.
  20. Temporarily suspending the script engine of a region is not even close to the same as the ability to uncheck the running box for the scripts of objects using the top scripts object finder. You are telling me if I am out of apples just eat a typewriter. Clearly only a few people responding in this thread actually understand the issue. Fairly sure Chaser was the only one.
  21. For those confused it's quite simple. The issue is not that scripts can be shut down. The issue is that there is no function to re-enable scripts in a no mod object. If LL would simply enable the function of "Run Scripts" for no mod objects, problem solved. I guess it is easier to destroy a function then to create a solution. Side note: We all understand that this applies to both the SL viewer and the FS viewer. I don't know why people keep nit picking minutia. To reiterate a previous post I put Firestorm in the title because most people use Firestorm.
  22. For those confused it's quite simple. The issue is not that scripts can be shut down. The issue is that there is no function to re-enable scripts in a no mod object. 23. Thank you Chaser Zaks. I hope you will pass along the real fix to LL which would be to enable the pie menu Scripts / Run Scripts function for no mod objects.
  24. So it's no secret that scripts are created and put into objects in order to function. A scripts entire reason for being is to run. There would be no point in creating a script to carry out a task, place it into an object, and leave it disabled. Therefore I see no problem or security concern with simply allowing the pie menu Scripts / Run Scripts ability to function for no mod objects. The "Run Scripts" ability does not reset scripts, it only checks the run box of scripts that have been disabled. This would solve the problem of no mod objects breaking when disabled by a region owner/moderator and it wouldn't require the removal of a very handy ability in the toolbox of region owners/managers.
  25. https://wiki.firestormviewer.org/firestorm_change_log_6.2.4.57588 Removed “Disable Selected” and “Disable All” Buttons from Top Scripts World → Region Details (Region/Estate) → Debug → Top scripts Maxim ProductEngine - removed cos of https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-4143?
