Yes and no. No doubt it is expensive. But I have a friend who is into Magic: the Gathering. He can spend in a month what I spend in a year on SL. He thinks I am crazy for spending money on virtual land. I think he's crazy for spending money on little cardboard rectangles. We probably both have a point. Seen through the lens of "SL as a platform" - yes very expensive. Seen through the lens of "SL as a hobby" - We are somewhere in the middle. Not cheap but not outrageous either.

Thanks for all the responses folks! I forgot to check in for a while. Its nothing to do with my GPu overheating. I have a 3080 TI that I monitor through Nvidia tools and it all looks within acceptable levels. Ive had a graphics card overheat on me in the past and know what that looks like. I am getting a solid 40fps while this is happening. It does seem to have stopped happening as frequently since I last posted. I also discovered that if I just spin my camera round in a circle (holding Alt and mouse) everything pops back in instantly. So while annoying, now I know how to fix it its not too annoying. it seems to be some sort of auto-culling thing like discussed in Codex's thread. or as Niran says about FS and BD not being 100% up to date. I respect others choices, but personally not into it at all. I think it looks kinda silly. Like your trying to give yourself major dead-legs. The pins and needles must be awful.

Hmm. Possibly. I am not noticing any flashing. And its not stuff in my peripheral. Its just I turn around and suddenly half of what I rezzed is gone and half of it is still there. Sometimes it happens right in front of my view too, though less often. A further thing I have just noticed, if it happens, I cam over my neighbours parcel and cam back, suddenly everything pops back in again. its super weird.

Hello SL hive mind. I've run into a weird issue that (I assume) is to do with viewers. In a nutshell, I have been building a forest/farm environment recently on my parcel. Its pretty complex (2500+ prims on a 1/4 sim parcel). I have noticed that things are randomly disappearing and reappearing. its not a LOD thing. Half the objects in the region will sort of randomly disappear and then reappear over time. I've tried Firestorm and Black Dragon and both do the same thing. Though it seems BD does it slightly less often than FS. The only viewer it doesn't seem to happen with is the LL viewer. And.....yeah, don't really want to use that In all cases, I do have LOD settings bumped to 4. Sometimes I can trigger the items to pop back in by zooming my camera waaaaaaaay out and back in again (I have camera constraints disabled). Any ideas why this might be happening? Its driving me a tiny bit crazy and I have never noticed this sort of thing happening before. I dont seem to get the issue if I TP around and go to other regions. Is it potentially nothing to do with the viewer but the land?

I would say you look borderline. As in 17-18 ish. Definitely not a "child" but certainly a young teen. As others have said, its totally the sim owners call. But if there is nothing sexual going on in the sim it does seem to me like a bit of an overreaction. I doubt you would get that reaction everywhere you go. I'm no expert but so far as I understood the TOS you have to be doing something....fairly graphic to actually get into trouble. But LL rules are a bit weird in this regard. I have seen some stuff on the Marketplace that I would certainly consider totally (like, really REALLY) inappropriate. But they seem to turn a blind eye to all that. And there are groups and places inworld that I am kinda shocked that they allow to exist. And yeah.....avatar height is just such a can of worms I wont even start on that. lol EDIT - Also age perception between age groups makes things even more complicated. I would guess that the older the person is that you ask, the younger they will guess that you are.

Hi Demaie! Welcome to Second Life Because of time zones, it can sometimes be a little tricky to meet people. I would say most SL users are in American time zones. Best advice would be to join some groups that match your interests in-world. I just took a look and there is a small general group for Vietnamese people if you want to meet people in your area/time zone. There are also groups dedicated to new users. You can find them using the search function in your viewer. Second Life can be very confusing to newcomers. There is quite a big learning curve, but its absolutely worth it. Dont be scared to ask questions here on the forums. We are (mostly) a friendly bunch. And of course, feel free to get in touch with me in-world if you like. If I am around, I'm always happy to help and answer any questions I can.

Very often I find that even clothes that look well fitted will clip like this when combined with an AO. Really there are two solutions. 1. Get an alpha layer that matches with your outfit. As others have said, considerate creators often now include these as part of the package. 2. use your Maitreya HUD to manually alpha out the bits you need to. Annoying but it works. If you have to go down the 2nd route, make a copy of your body for each outfit. That way you wont have to faff around each time you change in/out of something.

Ahhh this takes me back. Welcome to SL! Sounds like you had an eventful first few days. I second what others have said. Take your time and ask around if your confused about some aspect of updating your avatar. Mesh bodies and heads can be particularly confusing and it really helps to get demos and ask peoples opinions before splashing the cash. This forum is a good resource for that! Also, don't be put off by the pervs and the crazies. Just like RL, SL is full of all kinds of people, but in my experience, most people are nice decent folks. Often socially awkward, but nice. And if not, that's what the "block" button is for.

My two cents would be an EvoX head (kinda expensive, but they come with TONS of accessories and extras like piercings, makeup, face poses and tons more) and either Maitreya for a very "standard" body that is very flexible in terms of shapes or Kupra if you prefer the very curvy/thicc look. I hear a lot of people like Ebody too, but I didn't try yet. Though I hear lot of positive talk. But yes, demo, demo, demo! Chances are you will be sticking with your first mesh avi for quite a while, so take the time to find something that is right for you. But generally speaking, stick to well known brands. This is because otherwise finding accessories that fit can be a nightmare. In terms of head - EvoX and Catwa all have good support. Bodies - Maitreya, Ebody, Legacy, Kupra, Belleza Freya are all solid choices depending on your personal taste. happy hunting!

I find the argument "free speech is essential to making informed decisions" laughable. If you listen to someone talking a load of nonsense, then act on that nonsense, how is that in any way an "informed decision"? Someone says "pour jam in your ear and it will clear your ear wax" and you go ahead and do it instead of listening to your doctor, your not making an "informed decision" your just a sticky moron. People seem to get very confused these days over facts and opinions. People are way more willing to listen to half-baked opinions that chime with their own world-view than objective measurable and tested facts.

Yep, I'm leaving my minimal collection of stuff up too. let them sort out the mess they created. If the account gets banned I'll just make a new one. I understand websites need to make revenue. But pay walling existing functionality is just lazy cash grabbing. From what I understand they have constantly jacked the price of pro while adding nothing. I wonder what will happen with the adult groups. If the owners dont upgrade to pro, do they get wiped too?

I remember in the days when I wasn't "out" yet and so was "a dude with a female avi" a guy did something similar to me, and I was like "sure baby" and then played very loud clips of Frank from Its Always Sunny down my mic until he muted and blocked me. I have a hard time getting upset that a multimillion dollar corporation somewhere is losing a few pennies. I'm not advocating to ignore the law, but I'm sure the ones that wanted to enforce their IP could should they chose to pay some poor minimum wage admins to do the work. So long as LL remain faithful to the DMCA rules, SL is safe. Eventually "The Mouse" will own everything anyway and nobody will be able to make anything anymore, so why worry?

If you look in the folder for your head, you will see there are multiple skins (tattoo layers) you can use, some with brows, some not. If you want to use the HD Brows, use the ones labelled FACE. If your using a skin from another creator, you cant remove them as they are baked onto the skin.
