Then the extra money you mentioned you had left over in your account will always be put to good use at a later moment.

I dont think you understand. Lol I look for specific plots. Nostalgia and such. If I miss a plot that Ive been waiting on, I have no use for 250k lmao

This could be bad for the second highest bidder.  Say I'm bidding on plot-C and I get out bid.  I think about it and decide that I'm not willing to go higher.  I then go and find plot-Z in the auction list and I like it so I place a bid on that.  Now the action on plot-C ends and the winning douche-bag doesn't have the L$ and his payment method fails.  Thus, with your suggestion LL would automatically make me the winner.   However, I no longer want plot-C because I am currently the highest bidder on plot-Z and I cannot retract my bid and I most definitely do not want 2 plots in 2 different areas, nor the increased tier associated with that (because I am NOT playing the auctions to sell whatever I win).

I collect land, my group is lasthope land collectors. i keep them scattered in nice sims throughout the grid.

  3. Its quite all right, I get it LL doesnt need or want my money. Thats just fine. It'll be nice when all the land barons stop dumping funds too because of this change. Good way to loose money, lower the land prices and make it more difficult to get land.... Kinda a catch 22. They should probablly get some thinkers on their team.

i must do something wrong... my money always moves in the other direction...

You guys said they were going to ban me for posting a negative comment. That would be quieting the things they dont like. I never said anyone was on payroll.

are you guys all dumb? is that what the forums have become since i left them in 07?

You could use those lindens to bid on a different parcel, or to buy a parcel from someone who is selling a parcel directly.  It seems to me that you have some unusual practices about how you choose and buy land that are outside the normal range, and that is the reason that this change appears to affect you so much.

For me, this change won't be a problem, and it makes a lot of sense to me for the money to be held in escrow until the auction is lost or completed.  I was surprised that this wasn't already a requirement for bidding.

I also don't see this as benefitting large landowners.  In fact, this may make more parcels available to others.

I bid on specific plots that I want. and wait for them to come on sale.

  6. How hard would it be to set an option for relist, or give to the second highest bidder.... I don't think it would be that hard, but instead they want to fork over money for no reason. Get out of here LL being shady and generally junk again... Can't say I'm in the least bit supprised after 13 years I've seen them do some really crummy things! :):)

Actually, they didn't because you have stated several times "why would I spend {that much money} for no reason?" - which says you wouldn't have spent that much. Which means it's not lost to LL because it wasn't going to be there in the first place.

Things that make you go "Hmmm".

Actually I would have spent that much on multiple plots, but Im not going to spend that much on no plots. Or a possibility of a plot. Sadly I will no longer be playing auctions because I dont have money to waste for no reason. If im not winning the plot I have no need for 1000US in L$. If they want to refund me everytime I purchase L$ and didnt win thats a different thing. But they dont. So screw the auctions, and screw the lindens yet again another unsatisfied customer of 13 years. Good job guys.

    Hi FailedScience,

The changes were made to make a more updated, compliant and expanded auction experience.  Holding funds in escrow helps to prevent bidding for the sake of driving up an auction price as well as ensuring that the winning party has funds available to actually complete the auction.  We have actually had residents bid at auction and then not be able to pay which makes for an unfair experience for those residents who made bids in good faith.   I do understand your argument, but the escrow system will continue to be in place for all auctions going forward.

There are better ways to go about doing this. Just lost a couple thousand a year from me. :)

    Hi LittleMe!

Thanks again for bringing that to my attention.  We have a quick fix going out this evening (along with a few other little fixes), but we're also looking into making the messaging more specific in the near future.

Let me know if you see anything else amiss in there!  =)

So you have no input on why this change has happened? No answers? What is the reasoning behind forcing us to buy unneeded L$

  10. boycott auctions until they become better organized. thats the only real option here. im not gunna bid on two 150k plots in one auction and then loosing both. its absurd. absolutely absurd. idk how they didnt think that one through. or maybe they did and they want to rip their population off. Maybe a linden has a comment to say @Oz Linden I noticed you're following this topic... Any input?

  11. I have no need for 255,000L$ i barely have any need for 10L$. I script in SL for free to help people. I buy land that I like to script on, to build on, and to have my friends use. If I'm reselling it my prices are already far lower then any land baron would ever think of selling land for. This now deters those like me who want to help secondlife grow rather then make money on selling over priced land for no reason. The land barons will make the market, they will make the prices, and they will make it so a new user does not buy new land. A new company won't set up shop. A new creation won't be made. You thought landsales presently were bad (they arent happening and most of the recent auction plots sit for years unused to to rediculous prices) Of course you have to pay attention to see what is happening around you... Which clearly everyone who has responded to this post doesn't do.

It's not as if you've lost the US$1000 though. Carrying that balance is cost of doing business. Granted, "risk-free" T-bill rates aren't quite right -- there's some currency risk -- but still it's a few bucks a year. What's all the fuss?

Its exactly as if I lost 1000$ I only bid on plots that I've been waiting for to go on sale or not. Most of the time for years. Spending 1000$ on something youve been waiting for is not the same as spending 1000$ on money that you no longer have a use for as the plot has been bought. They are completely different things, I dont understand how you guys dont understand this aspect. The cost of doing business should not be to deter residents from buying land due to the risk that is involved. You want land prices to skyrocket... this is how land prices skyrocket.
