Regarding the comment about reading the manual. Almost all manuals can be found on the web - usually in pdf format. Google is your friend.

My air filter (smaller than yours) is about six feet from my desktop tower and has been for most of a decade (different towers) with no issues).

And yes, there are mos people watching Netflix now and more people on their computers in general.  I have had a video stop on me and I have a good bandwidth for my area.

and the comment about "why are you asking here?" makes a lot of sense to me. Why not just type your question into your favorite search engine. That usually solves most problems and answers most questions.

I couldn't find anything in the owner's manual online about it

I'd be more concerned if you had placed your computer next to a radiator on full heat.

What's your fear what might happen?

No radiators in this house there are air vents and air ducks or whatever there called but not the older radiators

I was watching Netflix when I seen it blur a few times thought it was the air purifier then remembered it's a Netflix issue

just a advice.. never buy a car.

I don't have over $200.00 month for car insurance payments a month and don't tell me there not cause I know how much one was in my name years ago.

So go take your rude comments elsewhere.

I have multiple friends who have misplaced car keys, house keys, wedding rings, stuff that isn't  cheap multiple times it happens it's part of life.

  4. I recently bought the - Honeywell QuietClean Tower Air Purifier With Permanent Washable Filters, HFD-110

I was wondering Is it safe to be sort of near a Desktop Computer and TV??

It is at currently 48 Inches away from the computer tower and 65 Inches away from my TV

I could move it more near the door I’ve had it on since Sunday from High to Medium setting when I'm awake

to Low when I'm asleep until now of where it is but I just wanted to make sure it’s safe there.

Look up the warranty period on it and replace it well before then.

The thing with the power supplies is that it’s the most crucial part of the system that needs to be the most reliable. Power supplies are the most common point of failure on any PC, and they have the ability to take other parts down with it.

Hard drive or SSD dies, ehh that sucks, you lose your stuff, but everything else is fine.

But a psu can go out quietly and just not turn on or it can pump 13 volts into your motherboard out of nowhere and vaporize the mosfets and take everything on the 12v rail with it, motherboard, cpu, gpu, etc

Its the most common source of problems I’ve seen as someone who spends way too much time on computer tech forums. It’s just not worth the initial savings to buy a mediocre power supply, better offerings are not much more expensive and you don’t have to upgrade for a pretty long time.

Consider the people who spent 150$ on an old Corsair HX series a decade ago, those were built nice and still usually hold spec pretty close if they weren’t too hot, and are perfectly usable today. However if you bought an EVGA 500B even 4 years ago, if it’s not dead by now it’s probably rippling like a choppy sea and is on the brink of death.

The only one i could find close to it was this - https://www.newegg.com/cooler-master-elite-v3-600w-mpw-6001-acaan1-us/p/1B4-0011-00046

Which says 2 year Warranty which is also on the Canadian Website

I doubt it’s going to cause any problems for the time being, but it’s a psu that’s padded with most of its voltage on the 12v rail, meaning if you were to jump to a higher end processor, since a secondhand Ryzen 7 2700/1800x is dirt cheap these days, you’d be pushing some limits with how much current it can actually supply.

Its far from a god awful psu but consider that if it was 2012 it would be a reasonable midrange option from a pure specs standpoint. It’s 2020, atx 2.4 may not have been the biggest change but these days the 60-80$ price range can get you 80+ gold rated stuff with 10 year warranties, ie Seasonic SSR, Corsair TXM, Cooler Master MWE Gold, etc

The next upgrade I would presume would be a pretty substantial cpu upgrade in the coming year or two, with 4th gen Ryzen on the way I imagine something like an R7 2700, which is already super cheap, will only get cheaper and can be considered as a random toss in upgrade. For that you would want a psu with multiple 12v rails for the cpu and gpu rather than a single 12v rail covering everything.

How long can it go the longest without being upgraded??

I think this one is padded he has like a inside something along like that the power supply is hidden that I don't even see it like its inside

Kinda of like this - https://thermaltake.azureedge.net/pub/media/catalog/product/cache/10f519365b01716ddb90abc57de5a837/db/imgs/pdt/gallery/CA-1K8-00M1WN-01_94a038a0e13d4229b6b9ef1d364eaf80_thum.jpg

But with my case and no open part kinda its all boxed in

The bios is not complicated, and nothing was written to the bios to get audio over HDMI, that’s a standard feature and has been since... I think Nvidia fermi refresh and amd following shortly after.

The most common issue I’ve ever seen people have with APUs in systems with dgpus is that some programs will switch between the two and run passthrough via the gpu and it’s just a nightmare. I’ve seen SL do it before on vega apus where it seemingly randomly reconfigures itself to run the APU if it isn’t disabled.

Its best just to make sure or at least ask them before it becomes a problem after an automatic driver update or whatever.

I also wouldn’t trust that power supply further than I could throw it, atx 2.31, 80+ white and only on a technicality, swap that out for something decent before you upgrade any component in that system any time in the future, it’s not 2008 anymore. That’s all only partially a related matter however.

Actually the HDMI was only putting Video no sound from the Video card to the HDTV and the TV wasn't even showing up as an option under playback devices he had to write in the BIOS or something for it to finally work.

I probably won't be able to upgrade anything in this tower for at least a couple months or a year at the most it took me 3 months to even be able to save up to get it and at least its better then this laptop here - https://www.amazon.ca/Aspire-E5-522-89W6-Windows-A8-7410-Processor/dp/B01MQJAEX1

Would the power supply be alright until then ??  If not please let me know so I can contact him to swap it out cause he spent more on this tower then what I actually paid for it as it was also a Christmas Gift of him charging me less then what he paid for it.

  8. 1 hour ago, cheesecurd said:

You shouldn’t need to manage anything in the radeon control panel, most of it has no effect on older games like SL anyway.

make sure your APU is disabled in the bios since you have the RX 580

The person that custom built this computer is a coder at least i think cause of what he did so I'm sure he disabled that

what he did was he had to write int BIOS about the HDMI Sound coming through the RX 580 via HDMI to the HDTV that I use as a Monitor

So I don't want to fiddle around with the BIOS the way he has it set up and screw something up that i shouldn't be playing with

Also I have the 19.12.3 of the Driver Updates of the RX 580

And he had Radeon Enhanced Sync turned on also when i bought it in the settings

At $400-450 I'd start to look around for deals on new computers at holiday sales before I spent that kind of money on a box of used parts with a five year old CPU.

http://www.flyerca.com/boxing-day-sales/ that's when they would be having deals again and the only 2 I see are $600+ laptop at Best Buy or $400 Laptop at Walmart after taxes

I might be getting all your thoughts on a few so dont mind if there ends up being 4 or 5 want get the best bang for the buck kind of thing

Just seen this go up thoughts on it this below its $450.00

That kijiji listing of the optiplex with the i5, that’s the only option really worth getting at all for under 300$, and even then that price is fairly high for what it actually is if you were to do it yourself.

In the US anyway an RX 480 is only like 90$ if you don’t deal hunt, sometimes you can get them at auction for 70-80. An optiplex 790MT in that configuration with windows and everything already installed is tops another 100$, and then an adequate psu is another 50$. So there’s obviously a margin of profit they have to make but that’s the only one worth getting.

The 860k is only slightly newer and it was not a good time for AMDs processors, it’s not a good choice at all. It can’t coast on the RX 580, it would be bottlenecked to all hell anyway by the relatively weak 860k.

The FX series one with the 650ti is hardly worth anything really, i wouldn’t even suggest it if it was free simply because of the power consumption.

Would the power supply be good enough for the card that's in there though of the Kijiji one?

I had someone told me the card would burn out cause the power supply isn't good enough for the video card.

The $400.00 the custom one is saying he can change but the price would be $450.00 for it the cheapest he can do.

Go with the optiplex. The Athlon x4 860k doesn’t perform nearly as well as the i5 2400, and for SL cpu performance matters a lot.

Those optiplex rebuilds are pretty common and decent for their price, especially with an RX 480 and a psu upgrade as that seller has done.

    Avoid the FX 4130 system.

It would be the $400.00 one that he says in the image or $290 the first link that I'm considering

The first link is a Dell Tower and he upgraded things to it that it says in the ad

So which one would be better the $290.00 first link or the 400.00 one ?

Take note I would have to probably have take an extra 100.00 out my chequing account to pay for the 400.00 one

  13. Right now I have this laptop - https://www.acer.com/ac/en/CA/content/support-product/5994?b=1&pn=NX.MWHAA.007&sn=62103048676

And I'm looking to upgrade to a tower of two different options

1st option I could afford at the end of the month without touching anything extra -

    Price: $ 260

    Gaming Desktop i5 2400 3.4 Ghz| 8GB DDR3 | 500GB | AMD RX480 8GB,
    https://www.kijiji.ca/v-desktop-computers/winnipeg/gaming-desktop-i5-2400-3-4-ghz-8gb-ddr3-500gb-amd-rx480-8gb/1476893655?utm_source=com.google.android.apps.docs&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=socialbuttons&utm_content=app_android

2nd Option is the image at the very bottom that I could get at the end of the month but would have to touch what's not already in my savings account to buy it.

Gigabyte Motherboard that is in the image below

MSI Gaming X Brand for video card

Benchmark between the two video cards - https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-RX-480-vs-AMD-RX-580/3634vs3923

    Honest Opinion's please of both

I was dealing with CyberPowerPC,customer service to deal with the issue and it turned out that it was an issue with  damage during shipping to BestBuy. I returned theComp and exchanged for another. The new one works awesome. I,m running my viewer graphics at just below Ultra and have no problems

So does the new one have the RX460 Card?? I been looking at a getting a tower and one i seen online has the RX480 in it

  15. Well I have talked to at least 2 different people with the same laptop and they told me to uninstall Melwarebytes that was the issue for them no matter what they tried it concluded it was that.

Another person told me he had the same issue with a tower computer that Melwarebytes was restarting his tower.

Since I uninstalled Melwarebytes I noticed a huge difference in how my laptop restarted so quick and images in games loaded up even more quicker

Core Temps have dropped even while playing my games or doing anything

The highest all of them range now is up to 60 - 65 but usually always within that 60 range

Try the official viewer for a while and see if it crashes too. Also try the 64 bit versions. Check for Windows updates, and video drivers. As soon as you’re done with the iPod, uninstall all the Apple software.

“OS Version: Microsoft Windows 8 64-bit (Build 9200)” that’s not accurate, is it? Not on a computer bought in 2017 I hope.

I had issues with the 64 bit version on this laptop before don't ask me what the problem was as I don't remember what the issue was to be honest.

Okay this is a Two Screenshot's one taken from Under Windows Update of OS Build and the other taken from right clicking properties of my "This PC" on my Desktop

So I have no idea why its saying my OS Version is Windows 8 when you can see otherwise below.

Also its not crashing it is like my entire laptop freezes then restarts on its own with me no where near it

OK, 63° C isn't really critical for a laptop CPU. In theory.

However, I still find it interesting that you barely notice any hot air being blown out. Especially after 3 hours under heavy load, it is simply bound to happen. So the lack of it still screams "thermal problem!" at me. Do you observe exactly the same on your husband's laptop?

Now looking at the 73% as highest CPU load, my guess is that it actually throttles to avoid overheating.

73 was from the Process Load

And no i wouldn't feel any hot air being blown out when my laptop sits stationary maybe 3 - 5 feet from where I sit at all times I have it hooked up to a TV to use as a Monitor and a Wireless Keyboard and mouse.

When I clicked the options it was somewhere that I could keep an eye on processer load and memory usage with CoreTemp.

As far as my husband's laptop not sure I haven't been anywhere near him since June 2018 of in person.

And he hasn't been on Second Life since May cause slow internet speeds of where he lives currently.

I uninstalled Acer Quick Access to see if that might fix things as I think this all started again when I installed it rough guess but doesn't hurt to try.

  18. 17 minutes ago, steeljane42 said:

Unless you're afraid of another shutdown what you should do is to run Core Temp or anything that gives you a temp report while you are trying to use SL, games, netflix or anything else that crashes your laptop. Just launch the SL/game, make sure it's not on background and wait for a while. Keep an eye on tray icon for temp. If you'll see it climbing to 90C, then it's overheating and you'll have to clean your laptop's cooling system. if it'll crash while temp will be relatively low enough, then it's power issue and/or faulty hardware.

Alternatively run a stress test for better/faster results. Prime95 for example. Lauch Core Temp, start Prime95 and look at temperature. If it crashes (it most likely will, since you already have problems and stress tests are meant to show stability issues on systems that appear stable), then you'll know if it's simple overheating or something else as long as you monitor the temperature.

Be warned, though, if it is indeed the hardware failure and it's on the verge of dying already, then applying extra stress to it may finish it off sooner than it would die otherwise. But don't confuse it with software killing your hardware. Only thing it does is trying to use your hardware to its full capabilities, nothing else.

I am running Core Temp right now and this is the highest I have seen it get while running Second Life for 3 hours so far below.

63 highest for or CPU Temp where the 39 C is

    83 highest of Memory Usage

73 highest of Processer Load but most times this sits around 40 - 50 range

  19. 28 minutes ago, cheesecurd said:

Doesn’t mean it’s not toasty, it might still be super hot and just not cooling itself properly.

Memory usage != heat output. Your ram runs at something like half a watt of electricity consumption when under full read/write load. Your cpu/APU however may be getting hot or if it’s not hot, it’s having some kind of power issue. Netflix, video streaming, it’s very cpu intensive and on most average tier mobile hardware it will use all the resources it can to decode and cache video for playback. This is especially true for streamed video rather than locally stored video, which uses different network friendly encoding and as such, more intensive decoding.

Speccy, CPU-z or coretemp as mentioned. Coretemp will put a little temperature monitor in your notifications tray which is useful for seeing it in games like SL which reduce their framerate when not the active window, so you’ll see temps with everything being fully used.

Speccy will give you a graph over time however. CPU-z will give you a lot more details on other aspects of your processor.

And don’t concern yourself with memory on these types of things, Speccy is the most ram intensive of the three and uses like 20mb of ram or something.

If it’s not heat it could still be a power issue. Most often when a program causes a hard crash and restart like that it’s a hardware fault and not software. Software messing up will leave the machine on, it’ll crash out the program or give you an OS error. But forcing the machine off or restarting is something higher than OS level control on the machine telling it to stop.

If this system is getting toasty it can do that, if it’s not getting enough power (and there are a lot of ways that can happen) it can do that, if you had some random piece of hardware fail on some level it can do that.

Okay I'm going to download CPU-z and core temp and I'll post a picture of what CPU-z tells me about everything so you all can see it.

Edit: I don't see any temp things with CPU-z but here is one screenshots of Coretemp at the very bottom

27 minutes ago, Lillith Hapmouche said:

Frankly, if any of the mentioned or similar ones affect your game performance, you won't need any tool to come to the conclusion that your machine isn't running good at all.

Yeah but then my husband's laptop would be having issues if that was the case too.

He reminded me that mine was bought in December 2017 then we bought his in February of 2018 I just couldn't edit the orginal post to fix that.

    1.png

  20. 3 minutes ago, Lillith Hapmouche said:

I actually find that pretty critical. The components will produce heat, despite of the fans underneath it. If that heat remains inside the case, that is problematic.

So yes, please do monitor your temps and the internal fans running speeds. There are a lot of monitoring programs... CoreTemp, HWMonitor, Speccy, for example.

Netflix isn't such a light task to run, either, especially for such a pretty dated machine which never was really powerful to begin with.

What would be the best low memory and disk usage of one to run in the background that wouldn't effect how games run or anything else?

  21. Hello
So today I was playing  "Second Life" when my whole Acer Aspire E15-522 laptop just froze up and restarted on me without warning or anything I was no where near my laptop when it happened also I was around no lag issues or anyone at all.

I have had the same issue happen with another game called "Perfect World International"

It has also happened to me while watching something on Netflix which I found very, very strange

The issues had seemed to stop for awhile I'm not sure what has changed or what I did to cause the issue again but it is getting really annoying.

I have 4.00 GB Memory (3.46 Usable) and here are the specs websites for both games below

    Perfect World International - https://pwi.gamepedia.com/System_Requirements

Please note that my husband has the same laptop as me only bought 1 year later then mine and he has had no issues that I been having regards to this.

Also I have done the battery reset and doing the F2 and F9 I think it was to put everything to defaults and save it.

Also another question in this forum are the Memory in this laptop could it be upgraded to a 8.00 GB?? I don't remember if it can or not.
