  2. The classic SL avatar still has to wear a skin even if you're covering it with your mesh body. If you look in your inventory, you'll notice that you're still wearing a skin.. and that skin will cover your entire classic avatar... even though everything from the neck down is hidden by your mesh body's alpha layer. That said, you can't buy skin just for your head. All classic avatar skins are going to cover the whole body. If you want a nice skin that will match the Maitreya Body perfectly, I suggest Glam Affair. Those skins are beautiful and they are designed to exactly match the existing skin presets in your Maitreya body. If you want to go one step further, you can start to explore the world of mesh heads, but that can become quite expensive as you will then need to make sure that you're purchasing skin appliers that will be compatible with both your mesh head and your mesh body. There are tons of options and it can take quite a long time to find something that you're happy with. However, if you decide to go this route, my main piece of advice is to try the demos before you buy anything! Demo the mesh heads, demo the skin appliers.. if the creator doesn't provide a demo.. I don't suggest buying their product.
  3. Search youtube. There are hundreds of tutorials!
  4. Is it possible that your hud somehow just got moved partially off of your viewer screen? Right click and edit the white bar, see if you can move it back into view on your screen? If your crosshairs go out of view as well, you can use the scroll button on your mouse wheel so that you can view the area outside of your viewer screen. If that doesn't work: Go to the Maitreya Mainstore. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Maitreya%20Isle/168/123/24 Look for the redelivery terminal. I used area search and searched for "redelivery". The redelivery terminal looks like this: Click the top button to the left. Allow the web page to open. Look in the list for Maitreya Lara Mesh Body. Select it, and redeliver it. Now you have a new copy of your mesh body and your HUD. If the problem still persists after that, Maitreya has a great support team. I'd suggest contacting one of those people and perhaps they can walk you through other solution options.
  5. I agree. There's no need to spend money right away until you're familiar with SL and you're comfortable with it. Usually, when new people ask me about how to modify their avatar on low to no budget, I direct them to Fab Free. It's a great resource for low to no cost higher quality items from talented designers. That will let you get your feet wet a little bit and play around with figuring out what you want to do with your character. You can check out the blog here: fabfree.wordpress.com
  6. Most creators will resend items if it had copy permissions when you bought it. Check the creators profile to see if they would rather you send an IM or a notecard. Then you should compose a nicely worded message letting them know that you've lost the item or no longer see it in your inventory and ask them to resend it to you. They usually won't resend if the item had transfer permissions, but I've found that as long as you're polite most creators will be very nice about redelivering copyable items.
  7. There's a group on facebook called Hair Addicts In SL.. if you post your image there, the members of that group will probably tell you the name of it within minutes.. I've rarely seen them stumped..
