  1. Luckily, all of the DJs I tipped were OK, even when I announced I was broke and gave them transfer novelty items instead of Lindendollars. Even the DJ I tipped 1L was gracious (I was about 3 weeks old and had just got off Orientation Island). The only tip-related fight I ever witnessed was when I was dancing the poles at Blue Styles (long gone) and two of the dancers had an explosive row throughout the entire 2-hour shift over who had tipped them (one's ex boyfriend who had also had a fling with the other, or...something ๐Ÿ˜–). While this went on, the lazy new host, who should have been there sorting things out and uploading 500L to the contest board, responded to my IMs from another sim with "Hello sweetie :D" and a lot of hot air. The contest entrants weren't amused. ๐Ÿ˜ญ
  2. LOL, they'd love me then. Unless inworld rates have gone up in the past five years, 25-50L was pretty much my tipping standard. Then again, I'm talking more underground/indie music hangouts than your Frank's Elite Jazz Emporiums, or what have you. I'd have been on the TP right behind you...
  3. I always wanted LL to roll out the surname "Kebab". So I could be...Donna Kebab. But I'll probably never pay for a name change or surname, so it's a moot point whether they introduce it or not... The list of old names brought back memories...I wonder what the backstory was for Lindaprivate 1, 2 and 3.
  4. Yikes, I'm a SLoomer...๐Ÿคจ Yep, I jumped on SL WELL after the initial hype - missed the Chungwillygate / SLLA debacles too. It's weird to think there was less of a time lapse between us and the originators than there is between us and the Benters now. God, it was 10 years ago! I remember name changes like they were yesterday ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Not sure about the entitlement diagnosis, TBH...even in 2010, you'd regularly come across hardcore SLoldbies who'd insist you'd 'missed' the 'real SL' and that everything had gone to pot. And hanging out with the weapons innovators/FS crew (before it all turned sour) felt like we were shaking up the old order a bit. Oh god, I do sound like a boomer...๐Ÿ˜– That said, I had a LOT of help from oldbies as a noob, so I've always tried to pay it back to the young upstarts whenever I venture back in-world... There is a certain amount of wacky silliness and plain oddness missing from SL these days, IMO. To many, that might be a good thing ๐Ÿ˜›
  5. Wasn't there a US pizza chain (might have been Pizza Hut but can't say for certain) which had a SL sim, where you could order RL food? ie - You could click on a vendor with 5 lines of floaty script and it linked you to the chain's website ๐Ÿ˜ฉ Somebody I knew once had the highly illegal idea of building a SL 'record shop' where you could click on covers in the rack, pay them and get a link to the files of said album. Thankfully for him and the RIAA, he was far too lazy and erratic to go ahead with it ๐Ÿ˜Š
  6. It's been a while since I was involved in SL clubs but I would guess that isn't so much the owner blitzing the calendar but individual DJs/hosts etc (some of whom won't ever meet each other) listing their shifts separately and independently, using their staff land perms. I personally think it's a shame - I'm into the more fringe/indie art and music events on SL and these are sometimes run on limited budgets and/or organised by non-premium members. If these folk decide not to pay 50L to list, that makes it impossible for others to find out about events they'd have otherwise attended and enjoyed. Also, it won't necessarily deter the big super clubs (or stores with decent turnover) from spamming events around the clock.
  7. If I walked into a pub and saw people dancing in perfect sync and the DJ shouted "Welcome (my RL name)!" through a megaphone, that would...really freak me out...
  8. The peak of noob hilarity back then ๐Ÿ˜• I'm well guilty of it though ๐Ÿ˜„ Stomp boots ๐Ÿ˜ SO much easier than fiddling around with heels and alphas. Additional rave lights a definite plus. I'd forgotten about these! So popular they even put on "Best In Wings - 500L"-type contests. Along with 'Best In Boots'. Which was another reason to buy stomp boots ๐Ÿคฉ
  9. Neko boots that left behind rainbow pawprints, and tails that made rude 'sexy' comments when clicked, were HUGE at one point. Sports - there were loads of NFL teams on SL (with accompanying cheerleader squads). Also, motor racing teams and heats - I haven't seen any of those advertised for years now. When I joined, the big thing was Lady Gaga wigs/ make-up/shades. Seemed to be every second item that came up on 'X-Street'. Looked lovely with a face light. Brief 4chan influence for a while, too - singing bananaphones, nyan cats, anon avatars, etc etc.
  10. Would it really be that hard to roll out an open first name/last name option for everyone? (well, the thread's called 'wishful thinking'...) As a plus, might it also encourage new users?
  11. I โค๏ธ salt ! Always carry around a few sachets of salt, so I can sprinkle it all over my baked potatoes. Or sometimes I just lick my finger and dab it in a big bag of salt for a quick-fix treat ๐Ÿ˜Ž I reckon the 'experts' behind all these government health warnings about salt intake are just killjoys.
  12. Yeah, sorry about that. Days after joining SL, I learned about 'hard vore'. Amazed I didn't delete my account there and then.
  13. Yes, for most of my early SL ๐Ÿ˜Ž Loads of people did it then - it wasn't hard to find vacant regions with perms left on. Or even sims with regularly logged-in owners oblivious to the squatters living 2,500m above ground. It usually fell apart when friends of friends of friends heard about the place and decided to 'move in' and clutter it with their high-prim tat. Which, to the owner, is probably poetic justice. You can hardly boot someone for griefing your skybox when you're not meant to be there yourself. I also liked the Hobo sims, you could pretty much 'live', work and build there without paying a linden. But my experience of public sandboxes is very different to Bree's - can't remember the chance to 'build quietly', they were like flipping warzones...or at least the ones I went to ๐Ÿ˜ฒ
  14. I wouldn't go for a 2006 edition...but if there was a SL Classic 2010 pack, I'd get it in a heartbeat. โค๏ธ Might have to get a grief-proof vest, but no more jellydolls or mesh snobs ๐Ÿ˜ค
  15. Was it Karu? Probably not, but it's bugging me now...fairly sure I know the brand you're talking about, it was great. I LOVED that cheapo store 'DUH!', especially the rubber duck raincoat and checkered 'sneaker boots' (EDIT - they're still on MP! And no, they're not paying me). Don't think they're inworld anymore, but they might be. Also BC322 Rockers/Black Maria, which had brilliant freebie/cheap clothes/hair that easily rivalled some of the best mesh designs. Does anybody remember the totally bonkers 'security staff' at Freebies World? Their rants in group chat used to be a daily highlight, almost performance art.
  16. I get this with certain electronic tracks from 2010. Instant flashback to chatting to Eastern European vampire boys with the cheesiest pick up lines ever. Even the Zyngo sound FX bring memories flooding back...
  17. I remember feeling I'd really come far by making it off Rez Island (or whatever it was called) and onto Orientation Island... Started running into other avatars and pushing them, like a true noob, because I couldn't believe all these people were actually real! Then one kicked me into the sea and I spent three weeks bugging him to pass me his brash kicker. Met up with some bad girls in a goth-industrial club and spent a very happy year roaming the grid, acting like a jackass. Was so much fun! I wish I could be a noob in the 2010-2012 era again. It was like Las Vegas crossed with Baghdad...on acid.
  18. My first experience of a SL sex club was a gay canine furry/human hangout called Man's Best Friend. I don't know how much more I can say on here... Making my first object inworld - even if it was just a fast-spinning KFC bucket that flew offworld within seconds... Sim raves with graphic card-killing particle-poofers and lasers...the wearable Pegasus freebie...winning $Ls on Bear Infohub trivia machine...dodging Spanish-speaking trainee vampires in Freebie Galaxy...shock, disgust and disappointment when you unboxed your free Ronja skin...people in clubs triggering the 'EXCELLENT' gesture every 60 seconds...the 'infamous' Palestine sim...
  19. It's not the number of clubs that's the problem, it's that so many of them are dull and identikit. Been to one country place, been to them all. So many places use the same interiors and play the same stale tunes. The indie and alternative clubs used to be different 6-7 years ago but are now as uniform as the rest. I don't envy anyone running a SL club though. Seems like a lot of grief with no financial reward. A huge amount of club owners seem to be women with kids - parenting skills come in useful when dealing with the majority of SL DJs, I hear :matte-motes-wink-tongue:
  20. Living on mainland and then setting up security orbs is like someone who craves rural isolation moving into a Brooklyn appartment, then complaining about the amount of people and noise. As Rizzy has helpfully suggested, if you want inworld isolation, buy an island and leave mainland to those of us who value interaction and interesting things happening!
