  1. As far as I've heard, most pre-paid cards will not work as a direct payment method in SL - you need an actual credit card or a verified paypal or skrill account.

After you added the other card information to your paypal account, did you set one of them as the primary default source (instead of your bank account) for payments to second life?  I have my bank account as well as a major credit credit card connected with my Paypal account, and have the primary payment method set to the credit card, so I don't have any unpleasant surprises with my bank account.  Another thing I do is maintain a small balance in my Paypal USD balance - this is always used first by PayPal for payments, not matter what your primary payment method in Paypal is set to.

It sounds to me like the issue is more about how you are managing and have things set up in your Paypal account.

  2. What is the error that you are receiving?

It's been awhile since I've posted events, but I do remember some difficulty with a 2-day event.  If I remember correctly, I was getting an error about a duplicate event.  If that is the error you are getting, you might try writing it up slightly differently, and changing the title of the event in some way, to make each entry appear unique.  If your event has sub-events, you might try calendaring the sub-events and mention in the description that it is part of the longer event, and then provide a little information at the end about the longer event.

You can also add posts in the Upcoming Events and Activities section of the Forums here.

  3. Hi paradox -

A couple of other things to check.  When you 'buy' a 0L item from the MP, it's a multi-step process.  This confused me for awhile when I was new.  After clicking the 'Buy Now' button, another screen is displayed which contains a lot of MP ads and say 'Click 'Place your order' to complete checkout'.  The button for the placing the order to complete checkout is at the very bottom of that screen, so you need to scroll all the way down past all the ads and then click the 'Place your order' button.  Then the regular cashier/make payment screen is displayed and you click the 'Buy Now' button on that screen.  At that point you should see a message regarding the delivery being made.

The second thing, is that the item will appear in your inventory in a special folder called "Received Items".  There should be a folder or a box in that folder containing your purchase.   If the item is 'boxed' you will need to open the box before you can wear the items.

  4. Bay City has a lot of roads, one of which extends all the way over to Nova Albion.  There are many roads on the mainland continents, and most of the roads have rezzing areas periodically along them.  See SL wiki Rezzing Zones for a list of rez areas by continent.  Also see SL Wiki Road Network Directory for more details.

Whether you will find a lot of people when you are there is a different question :-)  It depends on the area and what other activiities might be going on in that particular area.

The Bay City Alliance does host a race of some kind (cars, boats, planes, etc) on Thursday evenings in Bay City, at 7 pm SLT, I think.  They have different routes through Bay City depending on the vehicle type and the host.

  5. Often groups (especially clubs and RP areas) will have NC's at their landing posts containing the rules or guidelines for behavior on their sims (not always automatically dispensed, sometimes you have to click on a sign to receive them).  If you have any for the club in question, you might read through them to see if that helps you understand why you might have been banned.  Often those rules will indicate bannable type offenses, if it is an area that has strict expectations about behavior or dress.

  6. Was there a rental box that you paid?  There are a lot of places to rent.  Personally, I would only rent where there was a rental box showing that the rental was vacant, and so once I paid, it would also show me as the current tennant.  This prevents problems of more than one avi thinking that they are the current renter.

  7. If you are asking if the group can own the items you bought, only the avatar who bought the item will own it (the single item can only be in one avatar's inventory).  However, if you want to split the profits from the sale of items between the two members of the group, you should be able to either find a vendor which allows you to split the sell profit, or you could script a vendor to pay half of the proceeds to the other member of the group.

Also, if you are planning on putting together groups of items you have bought,  to re-sell, be sure that all the items are full-perm and that you meet the requirements of their TOS for being able to re-sell them, or that they are transfer items (such as gacha items) which can be re-sold.

  8. What web viewer are you using to access your account information?  Perhaps try a different web browser and see if you still have the same issue.    (I'm currently able to view my transaction history, using the Safari browser on a Mac, so it's not a complete break-down of the transaction history fuctionality).

If you aren't able to view your information with any web browser, then you'll probably need to submit a support case (or use Live Chat, if you are a premium member).

  9. You're correct than generally you can't transfer a demo.  What you can do though, on the MP, is buy a 1L demo as a gift for someone else.  This is probably not a big enough feature to justify 1L demos, but I have used this functionality a couple of times to send a demo to a friend :)

We are working on a documentary on the hidden dangers of technology, and would like to interview players of the game Second Life.

We are a Montreal-based production company called “To The Chopper” and are currently working on a documentary called “Disconnected” which explores a wide array of issues regarding our excessive use of social media and technology including; deception, self-control, social etiquette, addiction and a host of others topics.

If you haven't spent much time in SL yet, I suggest spending several months first visiting a wide variety of what is available here before deciding upon a list of issues to focus on pertaining to SL.  I'm still new here compared to others that have responded, but my first reaction is that SL is not 'social media' but 'creative media'.  Personally, I don't come here to socialize necessarily - there are other platforms for that.

I spent awhile yesterday visitng sites from my collection of LM's - a variety of types of places - stores, gardens, scenic areas, amusement parks, role play areas, SL historical areas...  What always strikes me when I travel around to a variety of places like that is the creativity of what was built by other residents here.  The different visions, styles, atmosphere of areas.  The technical expertise needed to visualize and implement their creative vision on what was initially a flat piece of virtual ground, and allow you to feel immersed in that when you visit.

Residents have real people behind them, so all the good and bad that you find in humanity outisde of using any type of technology will be present, because that's the way people are.

SL is a very diverse place, and the residents who inhabit it are very diverse, as well as having very diverse reasons of why they are here and what they do here.  If you jump on the current band-wagon of 'technology is bad' and focus on just those aspects, I believe that you will be doing a disservice to SL, its residents, and your audience for the documentary.

  11. You might see if the merchant has a re-delivery terminal at the store.  Otherwise, you will need to contact the merchant.  Be polite and explain the situation.  Not all merchants will re-deliver, especially if the items were no-copy, but it's worth a shot. Sometimes merchants will indicate on their profile if they prefer to be contacted via IM's or by NC's.

  12. I agree that it's not a 'game' in the traditional sense of having objectives and goals, and earning achievements.  However, I don't think that it's just a place for socializing, either.  I think it could be considered a game in the sense of something done for amusement.

I don't do much socializing at all inworld.  I come in for relaxing, getting away from RL stresses, etc.  I explore, I create (not necessarily building things or selling anything, but creating as in designing and landscaping my parcels, or decorating houses in different themes, etc.).  I've done some RP'ing.  I tend to set my own little achievements as I learn different things.  Mainly though, I consider it a virtual world to BE in.

  13. Also, after downloading the viewer for the Mac OS, the first time you run the viewer application, you may need to do so by right clicking it in the application directory and choosing "open".  After that, you can start the application normally. (This has to do with security settinngs you might or might not have set on allowed software that is not downloaded from the Mac app store.)

  14. I agree with Lindal that they can request that, and you probably shouldn't do so.  You didn't explain whether you are just rentaing a parcel, or if it's a sim you're involved in a joint build with or any other special situation which might prompt such a request.  It is not at all a common request from a sim owner or land owner if you are renting or leasing land.

Personally, if I was just renting/leasing a parcel and the owner reaquested that, I would start looking for a different place.  The only others I would share edit rights with would be my alt(s).

  15. It sounds like you and/or your friend is not certain whether the account is deleted or is 'on hold'.  As others have mentioned, the existence of the calling card along with the inworld menu option to send an IM does not mean that the account still exists, or that an IM, if attempted, would go anywhere.   Have you tried IM'ing your friend to see what actually happens when you try that?

If you want to delete your account, then simply use the 'delete account' option (after releasing any lands if you are a premium member).  If you are premium, the account remains active until the end of the current premium subscription period, and then it is deleted.   After completing the deletion process, simply walk away and don't worry about it.

  16. I agree with Jenni.  I wouldn't want pop-ups nagging me to do reviews.  It's not that hard to find the items you've purchased if you do want to do a review - just go to your marketplace order history, and the link is in the details shown for each product.

Besides, right after an item has been purchased is probably not the right time to make a review of it - after you've received it and tried it out is a better time for a more complete review of an item. If after you've opened and had a chance to try something out, if you really like it, go back to your order history and leave a review.

  17. Section 6.1 itself (which the subsection you cited is under):

6.1 You will not post or transmit prohibited Content, including any Content that is illegal, harassing or violates any person's rights.

Perhaps someone felt that they were being harassed and that the harassment included content of explicitly sexual or intensely violent nature.

I also think that it is a mistake to believe that everyone who is on SL is interested in the sexual or 'adult' aspects. There are many, many areas and activities that do not include content of an adult nature.

3/slightly related to above this is more of a suggestion but I can't beleve linden have not done this already.

several people I met said they are onto their second accounts ... why not $5 ~ $10 USD keep all your stuff reset your account age / friends list and get a new resident name, get the impression so many peope would use this, why dosn't this exist?

People may get a new account but that doesn't necessarily mean that they want to stop using their first (or other) accounts.  Many people have several accounts, for different purposes or different RP's, so a 'move' of inventory from one avi to another may not really be useful.
