[No sound using Second Life Viewer on Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon edition]

I wasn't going to post here until I had tried it with each option.  If I had posted here with only the first uncommented, you (or anybody else) would be within your rights to say, "But have you tried uncommenting the next in the list, trying it, etc?"  Therefore, I made sure that I had tried all options before posting.

[No sound using Second Life Viewer on Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon edition]

I've found a temporary workround -- I'm using Firestorm.

However, that only underlines that something is wrong with LL SL viewer.

I only uncommented one at a time.

I tried checked in Synaptic Package Manager and found that I did have the 32 bit drivers loaded.

I progressively un-commented each line related to sound and no difference:

[No sound using Second Life Viewer on Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon edition]

Yesterday I decided to swicht to Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon.  I have had no end of problems trying to get sound whilst logged in.  I have tried both:

I've been through the Readme files and searched this forum.  I tried an iptables fix I saw but that just made things worse (everthing rezzed slower and I lost the buttons at the bottom of the screen).  See: https://community.secondlife.com/t5/Tips-and-Tricks/GUIDE-Configuring-your-firewall-to-allow-access-to-Second-Life/ba-p/675548

I have been in Synaptic Pachage Manager constantly trying to make sure that I have all the opengl, openal, oss, esd, gstreamer, alsa packages that looked promising (over and above the standard ones).  I even made sure I could support mp3, mpeg1-3, aac, etc.

I have tried a different set of headphones and  I have tried putting it throught my monitor's speakers.

In frustation I tried doin a clean install of Linux.

Every time I get the same result -- sound works fine in Linux but not in SL.

How can I fix this?

I've got a Second Life 4.0.6.315555 running on Microsoft Windows 8 64-bit  (Build 9200) compatibility mode. real ver: 10.0 (Build 10011).  How do I set it up so that I have world on one monitor and chat (and other windows) on my 2nd monitor?  I have tried stretching across but that means the world is on both monitors and you still have parts of the world obscured.
