It WOULD be interesting if there are different word-filters in the Adult Forum.

Uhhhh...I don't think there would be (or could be, given the forum software - can it do that?). I don't hang out there enough to know, actually!

I did some lookin' awhile back (probably when someone complained about a specific Forum feature), and was surprised that they can just go purchase Forum features for a few bucks here and there.  Like the "Theme".  So, nothing would surprise me.

You could go even simpler than that - it's a G-rated forum. The adult section is the obvious exception, but there's not much need for us to be discussing that even there.

As far as needing a list goes

I thought they OP just wanted a list because they got "butthurt" over being censored.

If I can type a paragraph without firing off a string of 17 different curses and colorful phrases, so can anyone. 😂

Right, even Zal manages without actually cursing.

in my case it was the word for non consensual carnal knowledge, the post was approved with that word censored out.

    Live and learn 😁

Do you have questions on "why" that word is considered "bad"?

The simplest answer isn't really something like, "it would trigger people".

In my opinion, the most obvious answer is that people who are "having a really bad day" (have no self-control, are having an "episode", etc.) would use it to threaten others, as basically a form of "Forum griefing SPAM".  Taking that word away, removes that tool from the Forum SPAM Griefers.

I don't have a problem taking word away, after all - it is not a word which is "related" to Second Life, technically.

Unless somehow, that word is one of your favorites, I don't see the big deal in saying, "this is a bad word - don't use it on the Forum".

As educated adults it is our responsibility to try to be understood and to try to understand others. This is why using words that are likely to be understood to mean what we think they mean is important.

Doing something that makes one feel good is not the same as doing something that improves one's resilency. For instance, people who experience PTSD might use desensitization techniques in SL that don't make them feel good, but do help to lower their negative reactions. Forcing oneself to keep talking with and listening to someone who is irritating, might help one to understand them even if it also increases one's own stress level temporarily.

I guess what I meant, explained terribly, is - we can't always control whether others understand us.  Language gaps, different terminology, different backgrounds, cultural norms, etc.

But, we CAN try really hard to understand others. Even to the point of Googling. I Googled a lot more in this thread than usual!

ETA: What's the old saying? "Seek first not to be understood, but to understand?"

    Don't take Paul toooooooo seriously!

    25,000 L$ for 2k uploads.

Using a high upload cost, and thereby limiting it to "serious creators" will work just fine, they can always just raise the price of products.

LL gets paid more for uploads, LL gets more in transaction fees from people buying the products. Evurbody wins!  Oops, I mean, LL wins!

If anything, 2k uploads should cost significantly more. I'd be fine with as high as 500 L$.

Otherwise, creators will abuse it. Full stop. That's not even a debate. We already see 1024 on jewelry and buttons and zippers and countless other objects where it does nothing but tank our FPS.

Whilst I totally agree with your sentiment, I don’t think an increased cost or any other barrier to upload will solve the problem that is about to descend upon us with the introduction of 2k.

I don't believe so.  The explanation she gave me made sense, but the initial post was really vague regarding intent, and frankly her (somewhat acerbic) response to me was the first time I saw a clear answer.

I think a lot of us use SL as a tool to cope with situations:  it's a creative outlet, it can be meditative, and it can serve as a means of distraction/ redirection, among many other options.  It's nothing we can't ultimately do RL, but sometimes SL brings more distant options closer.

Unfortunately, "resilience" also turned out to be a loaded term (assumedly, it was not chosen on purpose to be controversial).  Had just "healing", "recovery", etc. been used, then perhaps there could have been a lot less drama.  But then, we (those who participated in the discussion on it) would have learned less about what "resilience" means to some people, in some contexts, and its origin in Psychology, etc.

  8. My understanding is that the "auto-review" process is to help prevent certain types of SPAM.  Since we also have the "1 minute wait between posts", I wonder how useful it is and whether we really need it.  I assume whatever word(s) trigger "auto-review" also would get redacted (unless it is a "phrase checker" and not for specific words).
