  1. INVENTORY? I have absolutely nothing in mine, except the LL Library stuff. My Linden Dollar balance is zero. And my profile is completely blank! What is going on!!!! ***Oh, that's right; I'm a forum alt***
  2. PERHAPS SL2 will have an extra question in the registration process: 'Do you lack imagination, and wish only to participate in a "normal" virtual world?' ***If only they included another question, like 'Do you want a kid avatar?' then rejected those who replied yes***
  3. Roman Warden wrote: ^ That's the thing: I've never bought Lindens with RL money (and don't plan to) and I've never had payment iinfo on file (and don't plan to until I get this answered). Every Linden I ever earned was without payment info on file, 100% in-world. Not sure if that helps, but I probably should've put that in my original post. My bad. YOU don't think LL keep accurate historic records of this, do you, and how are they to know how the monies have accumulated in your account? If the tax man comes to call start explaining about disposable alts, buying Linden Dollars from now defunct SL Banks, winning beauty competitions dressed as a bisexual robot, and turning tricks as an 18 year old co-ed. ***Is the IRS going to argue that you were servicing johns, rather than accepting gifts from virtual boyfriends?***
  4. irihapeti wrote: hah !!! sez you Mervyn Withholding tax, like payroll tax, is the most efficient way to extract tax money out of people. Like you get your hands on the money before they ever get it. Then make it really complicated for them to get it back off you getting your hands on the money before anyone else does (and then making it really complicated for others to prise it back from you) is what makes the taxman sleep well at night MERVYN King, recent ex-Governor of the Bank of England, was actually one of my tutors in college, and although his speciality in those days was The Theory of the Firm (along with Aston Villa AFC and Catherine Deneuve) his attitude to corporate tax would also (or even more so) be applicable to less formal jurisdictions; it was simply that withholding tax drove activity underground. Barter, black markets, and "gift" economies replaced a monitorable marketplace. Another of his arguments was that such schemes were expensive to enforce against those who wished to avoid, using legal loopholes, remitting what they had legally collected - the UK Inland Revenue at one point in the 1970s was spending more administratively on collecting tax from the FTSE 100 than the actual amount of tax they were paid. ***Focusing on virtual business is nowhere in the sights of HMCE; obstacles of practicality, legality and triviality - to say nothing of cost - mean that they will continue to concentrate on the bigger fish they have to fry***
  5. SUITCASE? Gareth Edwards used to turn up to rugby internationals with his boots in a Woolworths plastic bag. ***And he didn't have Princesse Leia type knobs on each side of his head either***
  6. SHOPPING in supermarkets is NOT a suitable task for a real man. ***As far as I know, they don't have "Six items or less" counters in Off Licences, Gunshops or Maplins***
  7. DENIM? You are Jeremy Clarkson and I claim my £5! ***Only size -2 nymphets can get away with serge de Nimes nowadays, and that is if it is mixed with lycra as jeggings***
  8. DRACONIAN rules imposed as part of the new ToS regarding acceptably normal avatar sizes, and accurate scaling of builds, with a team of inworld moderators equipped with virtual laser measuring pointers, demolishing outsize dog-kennels and miniature Eiffel Towers, terminating with extreme prejudice Barbiezillas or Ultrahulks as a matter of course, and withholding of the mandatory licence to create avatars and constructions, with fines for continued flouting of the protocols! ***Or maybe you could just avoid looking at things that don't fit your perception of "normality"***
  9. OSCAR Wilde was obviously thinking of you when he was writing some of his stuff. ***You may be in the gutter, but you are looking at the stars***
  10. irihapeti wrote: about tax on online services generally + within the next decade all income cashed out of online sites will pretty much be subject to Withholding Tax So minus Commission to siteholder 30-50%. Then at least 25% of the 70-50% remainder be withheld and given direct to the RL taxman. Then will have to fill in the forms to be able to include this in your RL tax return. Same like you do with other income subject to withholding unless you a tax-registered business then the Withholding tax dont apply. However RL sales tax (VAT/GST/etc) on top of the siteholder commission payments will then apply most likely edit add: or both even maybe + ANTIPODEAN attitudes to online activity - including, or perhaps, especially tax, do not apply to many other jurisdictions. ***Nor are they likely to***
  11. SIX years here means you have probably bought a lot of Linden dollars, and could justify merely exchanging them back for real currency, especially since you probably won a lot of 'Sploders, quizzes, popularity competitions and even accumulated funds by gambling when it was still legal - assuming such things are legal in Florida. ***As I point out to my clients, paying tax should be thought of as a voluntary charitable contribution to a deserving cause***
  12. IS that Dilbert down at the bottom, all lit up? ***At first I thought it was Wally***
  13. GUERILLA marketing is the way to go. Start a Space Soap Opera thread over in the General Discussions forum, giving us regular updates on the life, death, births and - mainly - drama-filled couplings and uncouplings of the personnel in your rp environment. Of course, you should make sure the avatars involved have given their permission to have their "private" lives exposed to ridicule and celebration. Heck, you could invite forum personalities to appear as guest artistes, perhaps judging beauty contests like "Miss Virtual Universe" with lots of aliens as contestants posing in skimpy spacesuits. There's an opportunity to post some striking images too! ***Be prepared for a degree of derision from hardcore Trekkies of course, who will doubtless point out that your doors don't make the right noise when they slide open***
  14. POSSIBLY I might be taking a wild stab in the dark about this, but perhaps you might want to try contacting Catwa Clip, whose advert that is. ***Or you could ask people at random on the street****
  15. VOTE for me instead. ***Sorry, I don't have one of me in a bikini***
  16. THIS thread is sexist. ***What's wrong with a Mr Greek God?***
  17. SOMEDAY . . . ***I, for one, will welcome our new overlords*** My meme:
  18. PLEASE come back to this General Discussions forum to tell us how you get on, and remember to invite us all to the wedding, ***And feel free to return should you need to inform us what a two-timing cheat he is***
  19. YES and if you ask this question over on the Answers Forum I am sure that one of the kindly souls there will cut and paste the appropriate directions to your CHAT.TXT file where you will find your potential paramour's name, assuming you addressed each other in public chat before getting a bit more intimate. Whether your IMs are stored depends upon the settings in your preferences. ***But be prepared to be cross-examined regarding which operating system you are using, as it makes a difference***
  20. GOOGLE said it did not exist. ***But then, it denied the existence of LlewLlwyd as well***
  21. MODERATION has two meanings, Derek. Protection of the hypersensitive and cognitively disadvantaged in the forums from those at the other extremes of online competence is obviously an unwritten subtext within the ToS. ***Regardless of the stupidity and ingenuousness demonstrated by those being protected***
  22. Kelli May wrote: And perhaps just as important... what image would we use? THAT is a question worth its own thread. *** But please don't ask it in Answers***
  23. PLEASE let us know if you get any offers. Employement [sic] offers, that is. ***Maybe you could ask Peter Gray if LL's PR function has any openings***
  24. Aethelwine wrote: it being they way they are handling things in Second Life, which is after all the context in which he was answering questions. HMMM so you feel comfortable with the likelihood that LL will continue to do things the way they always have? ***Despite Ebbe's continuing insistence that SL2 will NOT be compatible with the current SL***
