  1. I'm a person who always did their best to not walk through tourist's photos, both for the sake of their photos and because I don't want to be in random people's photos, as far as I can avoid it. Now, it's basically impossible to not "be featured" in people's public facetime phone calls, no matter where you go, in the street, on the bus, in a coffeeshop, even in the doctor's waiting room (despite the phone striked through sign), on a forest walk,... I don't like. It's not that I'm doing anything against the law that might accidentally be caught on video in a café, or something, but... how to explain it, even in public spaces like cafés, it doesn't feel right that some people kind of extend their personal space over mine, by video call, while mine gets infiltrated. If I'd really need to take a call while in a café, which can't wait until once I'm out, at the least I'd keep it to voice. I never take calls in café, though, and also keep video calls to within my own four walls if I can't avoid them. I guess I'm just weird and a fossil. /me hopes for a few hearts that might indicate I'm not the only one, though. 🫣😅 But, yes, it's definitely a pet peeve of mine, by now, as increasingly ubiquitous.
  2. I wouldn't, I don't have a problem playing a necromancer in SL, but I'd feel too bad SLsurrecting someone who's already managed to pass on into the afterlife or lack thereof, with no way to ask them if they'd like me to, beforehand. I'm too polite or something, idk. I'd probably prefer SLerecting fictional people. Would be super hard to decide, if just one, though, I'll need a decade or so to think it over, I'll necro the thread in case I'll haven't passed on myself by then 😅
  3. Perhaps if you owned it on a lemonysnickety roleplay sim, it might (have) draw(n) some interest(, when it was out as a movie, and later as Netflix series, maybe still some would like to try it), I fear not nearly as many as HP, though. On the other hand, maybe some people are looking for an alternative to the latter in the mean time. I love that style, a fantasy sim rp kid of mine dressed like that, sim sadly doesn't exist any longer. I also dress a whiff of it irl, when possible (possibility highest in winter, lowest in summer 😅), but just very subtly, brave enough, but introvert, and wouldn't like people talk to me because of it, even if to compliment it and not to make fun of me. ___ I love this thread! (off to check if I already liked it, probably yes, but love it so much I want to be sure) ... a little later... well, I had used the laugh, not heart emoji, but that checks out!
  4. There seems to be a trend of using them instead of engagement rings in Japanese movies, probably to do with the kanji for fountain pen (mannenhitsu) meaning "thousand year brush". The last two I remember was a series with two male leads in love with each other, and the reasoning against a ring, that they worked in the same office or company (but eventually, one colleague noticed that they had the same 🖋️, making for a nice scene (was more a light-hearted comedy than a drama, so, the pen didn't cause any harm ;)), and, what was it,... ah, right, the male lead gave one to the female lead that he only knew through the internet and one or two meetings in a coffeeshop, so couldn't find out her ring size secretly (that girl wasn't actually the one he knew online, and did a "marriage scam" on the poor guy, disappearing with all his savings and thugs got their family home... However, in the end, he got married to the actual online gal, plus was rid of his over controlling mum, and working in his dream job, while sad mom had forced him into becoming a doctor... so, again, no shade to the enabling fountain pen). ... 🤔Sounds all like perfectly possible SL scenarios, so, maybe, try to market them as "🖋️ are the new 💍", and they may fly 🫣
  5. A roleplay character of mine once did a spin on magical potions, she put up a shelp with pretty perfume vials that you could actually take copies from and also got a notecard that described not just the scent but also the possible effect, of course, am no godmodder. Sadly, I never got any reaction out of that, maybe people were mad that only their characters could smell the scent and not them, it was fanciful olfactory creations like "Moonlight Beam", and such, after all. So, yeah, it didn't fly, not even in rp. 😂
  6. Nice! If you don't have an Eagles hint, you definitely should one or two @Zalificent Corvinus"That sounds like the name of one of those second hand bookshops run by somebody in half moon glasses, who wears carpet slippers, and cardigans with leather patches on the elbows, and who only opens for 1 hour a day, and hates customers wearing out the piles of old books by LOOKING at them." (Sorry for using tag, I often forget that you can't edit posts to add quotes, but have to collect and multiquote before posting, getting old is no fun...) I have several of those in my street (one of them, you need to leave your bag outside if you want to enter the second room, where they don't sit behind their half moon glasses, perhaps they're afraid that someone steals their precious dust along with a book), ty for that rather fitting summary, it will make passing them double, and entering them and getting that hate treatment, whenever I manage to stumble in during that elusive opening hour, triple the fun! Love those shops in my street, books and otherwise, though, they ARE fun. A service shop for mainland dwellers, where you can rent someone who'll take care of "bad neighbours". Slogan on shop door: "We'll put the good in your neighbour"; small print in the contract, "or send you our 4-guy mover team and moving truck for a more immersive experience, while you move to your 13th mainland plot". Logo... Al Capone or GoodFellas or similar cutout, obviously, and fitting soundtrack playing on entering.
  7. Maybe a business idea on the opposite end of the spectrum of SL jobs from Personal Shoppers and Custom Avatar Creation Helpers - Virtual Organizers in different flavours, from Project 333ists over Capsule Wardobeists and MaryKondoists to Minimalists. And for the very determined, the Xtreme Minimalists with the "you just need 1 virtual merino outfit, and can wear it for a whole month without needing to wash it, no matter what you do in it, and then just throw it into a virtual washing machine in a virtual laundromat and put it back on virtually wet and dripping (tp to a sim with a warm and dry climate, for a bit, to not catch a virtual cold, though) approach. That would be bad for the SL economy, though. On the other hand, the number of virtual merino wool clothes you may have to go through to find the ideal one...
  8. I often stumble over such things only by accident, in unlikely places, in this case, in the Second Life forum, thanks to your signature. I may try to see it in real, if even possible, while having my avi logged into Second Life. Maybe there are people or venues who have total sun eclipse events in SL... I shall try a search when I'm logged into SL again later. ETA: "Eclipse" would be an awesome last name suggestion, if it doesn't already exist.
  9. I just took a walk around this rather prettily done region named Aurelias, that came up in YouTube. Not super specific, maybe, but G rated, and as the description does mention Dickens, and it has all the cobblestones, rain, and sounds, and things, I thought, I'll add it here. "Welcome to Aurelias, a captivating town that echoes the spirit of Charles Dickens and transports you to a bygone era. As you stroll through our cobblestone streets, you'll feel the enchantment inspired by classic fables and fairytales." http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Aurelias/56/182/34
  10. Don't forget the ones who try it about every year, or at the latest, when their PC died, and they are on a new one, but always revert back to their TPV then, i.e., me. 😅 (But while each one of us is unique, I'm still under no illusion that there are still enough people similar enough to us in many regards, I'm sure I'm not the only one with that MO.) This, and the original comment still was fun to read and made me laugh and smile, respectively, so, thank you, a laugh a day keeps the doctor away, and such. That makes me wonder, how many of everyone's computers did the often dying-declared SL already outlive... For me, that'd be... one regular laptop, two gaming laptops, another regular laptop (I think it possible that SL actually killed that one, it died a quite untimely death)... yes, outlived 4 laptops for me, and now is installed on pc No.5, gaming tower, this time, no laptop, so my hopes are high that the pc count won't go up much more.
  11. There's "Pemberley", based on Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice", very quaint and photogenic, lovely greenery. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Pemberley/141/75/38
  12. It would be great if a randomised match option would be added to things that are there already, even fishing next to another person who chose that matching option, as it would be natural to chat then for both. I have a card game on my phone that you can either play against the machine, or pick matching with another real person. If you pick that option lets you know how long you'll probably need to wait for a match, with a countdown timer (probably only really precise, once the Randomizer AI collected enough data), which is correct almost always. I can certainly see that option as a great addition for things like Linden games, fishing, Mad Pea games, hunts,...! I'd love it for Mad Pea mysteries. Four eyes see more than two, and even if you get stuck, you could laugh about it together. And fishing, solving riddles, hunts, or whatever else, a randomised match would be a great icebreaker even for people who have difficulties with such, and an easy step for friend requests, or exchanging calling cards, for another future round of that thing, or for whatever other SL activity, together.
  13. I agree, unless the person wants to, because for example they want to enjoy a mainland area that the person who owns it specifically set up. I wonder if that couldn't be done through something like Experiences which does ask the visitor if they want it.
  14. I'd be rather busy in RL for a while, helping family in less than fortune living situations. I probably wouldn't change much if anything in my own real life, apart from travelling to and staying a long while in a handful of favourite places. When I'd have time for SL again, and I'm pretty sure, I'd return there, some kind of paid account again, and maybe my own homestead or full region to tinker about, but maybe rather spend my SL time in other people's roleplay sims, there's already too many sims, roleplayers spreading thin. Most probably, I'd regularly get L$ in addition to my premium allowance, and tip generously. Maybe hang out at new player places, freebie stores or such, and gift some of them L$ as a surprise welcome. Maybe gift Mad Pea or other giftable "event stuff" to people who wonder what to do in SL, things like that would be fun. I'd probably do all of the latter on a new alt, specifically only used for that kind of thing, an alt that nobody could claim was bad 😛 ... well, some people would still find a reason to label that alt as bad, I guess
  15. In that case, sending a friendly "Hi, I'm your new neighbour, just wanted to say hello and let you know that I really love that wall you put up, you have excellent taste" message might do the trick. A bit risky, though, instead of taking down the wall to cause grief of loss, they might dig for the most hideous texture they can find. 😅
  16. And some testimonies of real estate buyers, saying they'd never buy or rent from someone who puts up big ugly walls. Dear real estate people, maybe consider friendly neighborhooding as a sales tactic if not a naturalness.
  17. While they said they won't bring bad past names, they accept suggestions. You could try with Gossipperson (might be interesting to hear how people say it on voice), Gossipboy, Gossipgal,...
  18. I can count mine, but I'm also weird like that, and daresay there are more of this flavour of weird ones out there - I actually remember having played on a roleplaying sim, where the sim explicitly allowed to play multiple characters but only if each on their own account! Some people felt disadvantaged, because they didn't have alt accounts (or so they said), or did only want to buy separate sets of outfits and such, but not a body (actually, make that hands or feet, or skins, or hair, or something, there weren't buyable bodies back then, ha) for several accounts if they wanted to play multiple characters on that same sim, and the sim changed its rules to accommodate them. Which was fine by me; if it's allowed to play multiple characters in the first place, those who want to, should also be allowed to do that on just one account if they want to. Whether they really had no alts or not, the argument that some may have no alts, and the financial argument are valid. However, to me, personally, and probably much of what the "but on different accounts" original rule was about, immersion and "keeping things separate" is easier if on different accounts when on the same sim, and it's more fun to me. It's also good for the SL economy...
  19. I think it likely that many residents who are on the, especially deeper end of the, spectrum, just happily go about doing their things, whatever they are, in SL, and not in groups or communties geared towards people on the spectrum, maybe rather in building groups, or some other group that's about their field of interest. Just a small thought to keep in mind, for the bigger picture, though; of course, it should be easier to find some who are in groups, than to stumble over those who aren't, by happenstance while exploring SL for but a short while, up on their building platforms or other preferred places, or to recognise them if spotted out in the wild. Good luck with your study!
  20. Finally, finally, finally, having passed all the PvC dojos of various regions of a hanafuda card game phone app I carelessly downloaded "for random having to wait around"s, unlocked a kawaii cat profile icon, and being able to do PvP now. Not that there's any more interaction with the P than the C, or I'd have a way of knowing if it's actually a P (they might just fake some bots actually thinking for a sec, unlike the dojo stage C 😛), but, still, it feels a lot more fun, plus, the player names are far more interesting.
  21. I've just realised that this thread got already to page 20 while I briefly looked away... Or does that mean that all still-readers congregate on the forum, because there aren't enough in-world profiles to read anymore... 😄
  22. ... whether the owner/s of a new sim you check out, are the alt owner/s of a past sim that went down in drama. It's not that I really care, I've learned long ago that by far most sims aren't for eternity, and to live in the SL moment, plus they might not have been the reason but the victims of the drama so, no reason to avoid, but it's fun anyway, especially if you get to find out, or at least become reasonably sure that you guessed right, eventually. ... how long is this sim going to last, should I bother reading all the info, and creating a new rp persona especially for this one to align 100% with the rules, lore, be able to play an indigenous creature of their that believes in the local deities, etc., or should I recycle an existing persona... I'm somewhat sure many roleplayers can identify with my Roman Empire. 😅
  23. The good news, fromy experience, there's no reactivation fee, at least in practice, so you can put that theoretical $9.95 towards your avi's looks or rent them a place for a bit. Good luck!
  24. Retired, plus children out of needing parent a lot phase, plus out of their "real" job, home-officing, self-employed, I'd say, the latter three certainly having increased over the pandemy era, and with long lasting results. My own SL times have always been rather random, being self-employed, and with customers from all around the globe, at that. And people do pretty much expect you to reply within ten minutes max at any given time of the day, night, and year, these days. Sometimes, I long for the good old days of landline only, but not realistic recreating those now if self-employed.
  25. It's an interesting question. Personally, I'd say it has a few advantages, and it's also nice to get or give a "Happy SL Birthday". However, I think it's quite possible that such things, along others, might "get PCd" at some point, with "age harassment" reasoning. Some time ago, I noticed that one of my "fun accounts" didn't show creation date or anything the like, forgot which one (don't we have so many...), Steam? Discord?, no, don't remember, but I remember that I was surprised, as you often can see, and I liked that you could not, and it wasn't a platform where I ever noticed any "disadvantages" due to account age being shown, just a general, "oh, nice that you can't see this" feel. On pondering this, it's probably to do with the fact that it's kind of personal info, like gender, country of residence, etc., which I generally also don't want shown on "for fun" accounts by default. There are platforms, where you can show or hide your (rl) birthdate and gender, I think, no real reason that you shouldn't be able to in SL. Then again, if by choice option, there'll be "if they don't show it, they have an evil reason, surely thry are a newb/pretend to be a newb but aren't/are on SL since two decades and a century old im.RL/..." people. You can't win the game, be it the SL or RL game. If I could choose between "hiding" only one of my account age or payment info, payment info, it would be.
