  1. Maybe it's time for you to stop getting offended and pick up a newspaper. This is gambling, and many, many countries are cracking down on online gambling. And this isn't LL's decision: it's a court decision. This kind of action is increasingly illegal, and LL can't find a way to justify breaking the law because you think you're above it.
  2. I like Navigators, That sounds like a cool name. I don't have any suggestions, but any name should be really empowering. There's an abuse survival group where I live called Little Warriors, and I think that's a great name to showcase what I mean. You're not victims. You're not broken. You're not even survivors, since that still implies that you were the victim of something. With a name like Little Warriors, no, you're a fighter, and that's just the attitude that people affected by abuse probably need.
  3. That's really funny, but very true. I met a guy playing an older teen last the other day. He looked a bit old, and I didn't see it... until I saw that he had braces on. Immediately took 10 years off and made him seem more immature for some reason. Granted, adults can have braces too (I had a professor who had them), but combined with an already young looking face, braces really drive that home.
  4. Not at all. My avatar, as well as the ones I use on OpenSIm, are all quite different from me, both in appearance and character. For me, SL is a game, and I use it to play other characters.
  5. Here's an example for why you might want a mesh avatar. I play a child. Due to system limitations, it is actually impossible to scale an avatar shape down to child size and still maintain human proportions. Now, if you're full clothed head to foot with good mesh clothing, this isn't really a big deal because your avatar shape is hidden. What if you want to go swimming though? Or be barefoot? Scaled down to child size, the avatar looks like a bag of potatoes with door stoppers at the ends of their feet. It's rough. Something to consider is what exactly a mesh avatar is. The thing we talk about refers to a base model to wear, but in reality, a mesh avatar is functionally no different than a pair of pants. So if you're wearing mesh clothing, you're actually already wearing a mesh avatar.
  6. Except that franchising as a concept doesn't work in SL because you don't have factors like scarcity, location dependence, or branding. People franchise because the brand they are franchising comes with free advertising. That's why I mentioned full perm sellers; that's the closest you're going to get to franchising im SL because you are licensing someone else's product for you profits. Outside of the mesh you have access to, branding means nothing in SL.
  7. For me it's quite simple. I play a child avatar. I'm not a child in real life. I don't like using voice because it breaks the immersion when I'm roleplaying, because I'm not actually a child. But playing a child avatar also paints a target on my back, because we know there are toxic elements in the community. Keeping my private life private keeps people from doxing me and calling me a pedophile and ruining my life and career because they get off on bullying people. Lastly, there's the facts that I just don't want to share personal info online. If I wanted to, I would. If you're cool with your Second Life being your First life, that's cool. I know people like that. But there's always a reason why people do the things they do. Maybe they are "hiding behind their avatar" because they want to be someone they can't. Maybe they play SL for escape and thus don't want to bring real life into it. Maybe they want privacy (like me). Maybe it's all about expression. It's the same reason why we few people use their full names and list of fears as their usernames on any other website or online forum.
  8. Here's the question I have. What do you franchise? Restaurants franchises work in First Life because we need to eat real food in First Life, and branding helps us make those choices. That wouldn't work in Second Life because we don't need food. Proximity, choice, and supply aren't concerns. So what else is there to sell? Clothes, furniture, and gachas. But here's the thing. If a creator is selling something, it's because they want to make money. Having some one else sell something doesn't really benefit you if you aren't making that money. But then we already have something like franchising. It's called full perm. A creator is buying the mesh from another creator (or other assets) and repacking it as a unique creation. The original creator gets paid for the license rights, and the new creator gets paid because they are selling their thing.
  9. I'd just tell them to stop being 10 feet tall super models, since human beings don't look like that. This is the thing with being a teen and even a preteen. For some reason, everyone forgets what it was like and how much they wanted to shed being a child and look/act grown up. Teens wear adult-esque fashion. They look older (closer to a very young adult) while still young, rather than looking babyish. That people say you should look like a little kid just means they don't know what people actually look like. As long as you're not rocking a full beard and look like you're 18 feet wide, have enormous breasts and look like your 40, or wear diapers and use a pacifier, you're probably fine.
  10. As far as I am aware, anything like this has to be inventory based. I use Xeolife, and have not seen anything that doesn't require you to attach or click it. As for scripting an item to be a delivery object, Help Wanted is the beat place for this, as it has nothing to do with Xeolife itself. Hope that helps.
  11. I'm looking to learn scripting, but I have no idea where to even start. I'm familiar with the basics of programming, but I don't know how to move past that. I know about the wiki already, but that doesn't really help as it is a reference document rather than being instructional. What I'm hoping for is project-based instruction, where I go through specific projects in order to learn LSL. There was some game or something someone made last year, but it looks like it's been taken down. Anything at all? Books written in the last 15 years? YouTube videos? Inworld instruction? Thanks.
  12. I really want to complain about all the stupid people who are traveling and complaining about things like flight cancelations and mandated testing and quarantines, as well as all the stupid businesses who are opening during lockdowns and then complain when they are fined, charged, or served. It's just tiring at this point. It's not May or June anymore. Locally, we've been in lockdown for 3 months now, so it's not like this is a surprise to anyone. It's just people being lazy divas.
  13. Whatever helps you sleep at night. You know exactly what I'm talking about, but I'm done with you. You clearly haven't listen to a thing I've said and show absolutely no interest in learning or growing. It's really hard to have a constructive conversation when one party completely ignores the other, keeps moving the goal post, and keeps fabricating what is being said. Bye. Don't let my store's door hit you on the way out.
  14. Are you my soulmate? I finally have something uploading (I basically threw away everything I had and did a bunch of upload tests using different processes). However, seemingly regardless of the skeleton I use (be it a devkit, the LL skeleton, bones generated from scripts, or hand-drawn bones), and regardless of the exporter, I'm finding that rigged mesh is uploading out of proportion. I don't mean that it's too big or too small; it's uploading with the wrong proportions. So let's say I upload a pair of pants. The legs are fine and reflect the physical geometry I have offline, but the pelvis is coming in too small and offset inwards. Nothing in the appearance editor with regards to shape with correct for this (ie. making the avatar fatter makes them fatter, but the fatter pelvis is still negatively offset), and the amount of the offset is different across each coordinate. I've been trying to manually bash the bones into place, like moving and scaling them to account for the offset, but the upload keeps breaking after a while. It goes from tedious progress (hundreds of uploads, all while working blind) to complete failure to upload within one export, and I just can't figure out why.
  15. Except that telling a friend isn't what you or anyone else is talking about. You're talking about a systematic, public campaign of slander so as to destroy the reputation of a creator and cause their business to fail, simply because a creator is exercising their rights to something, and that's not an acceptable course of action. Creators who sell items without full permission are not lying, cheating, tricking, or otherwise misleading other users. They are not selling objectively broken items that cannot be used for their intended purpose. If any of those were the case, then it might be acceptable to discuss the issue in a civil manner. But that's not what we're talking about, nor is that what's happening. We're talking about people slandering others because their feelings are hurt. That is what's happening in this and every other "trigger" thread people make to slam creators for exercising their rights, and you are a bold faced liar if you're going to try and spin this any other way. That's all it is, and do not pretend for 1 second that it's anything else. But you're not going to listen to any of that, because you've made it abundantly clear that your mind is closed to new ideas. So let me simplify this. If you buy something, and the seller has been transparent about the permissions for with the item is set, YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO RECOURSE TO COMPLAIN, SLANDER, OR LEAVE NEGATIVE REVIEWS FOR THAT PRODUCT. Let me make this 100% clear to you. YOU bought the item in question. You, as a functioning adult with the ability to make informed choices and give informed consent, CHOSE to buy something knowing that it didn't have the permissions you are looking for. That is an error on your part and no one else's. No one held a gun to your head and made you purchase the item in duress. No one mislead you. YOU took an action, and now YOU are regretting. Do NOT project your mistakes and your failings onto other people, and do NOT try and pretend that there are no consequences for your actions. Do you understand that? Do you understand the difference here? Or are you just going to ignore me and continue to whine and moan about your own mistakes like people always do in these kinds of thread?
  16. I have nothing to say to you in response to such a hateful, ignorant comment. Do not ever speak to me again, and do not EVER spin what someone says into nonsense like this. Slandering other users is slander. Naming other users is slander and against the ToS. There's a difference between a bad review and an active campaign of slander. Learn the difference. No, it isn't. It is not objectively and morally wrong to use the permission system. If a creator does not want you altering their work, that is THEIR choice, NOT YOURS, and their choice to do that is not objectively wrong. Rather, your narcissistic attitude and your insistence of pushing your values onto others is what's wrong here. Quit your virtue signaling and soapboxing.
  17. That sounds an awful lot like slander/libel. You would be wise not to slander other users because your feelings are hurt, as that can be a ToS violation. As for "but why no-mod," I have spoken about this before and set off a bunch of people for it. Modify permissions have nothing to do with copybotting. It's about creators not wanting people to alter their work. That's all it is. As a creator, I don't want people altering my work. I do not want people recolouring the clothing I sell because I am selling my ability to make textures and do not want people making my work look like garbage by recolouring all of it. That is why I might sell something as no-modify. That is my choice and my right as a creator. People who have a problem with that can go over there, because I don't care to get into this fight anymore. In reality, if someone wants a minor change to something, I'd probably just do it. But when people get sanctimonious about it and demand that I do this or that for them, I no longer care what they think. And when they start slandering me or others for hurting their feelings, I care even less. So, if you want modifiable clothing, you are welcome to make it yourself.
  18. Unfortunately, I really can't give any more info. There are no unique settings, no odd importing problems, and no extra details I have. This has never worked right on any computer I have used, nor on any version of Max or any version of an FBX exporter. This is the normal "mesh is twisted up and deformed" problem that people keep running into but never seem to find a solution for. Nothing works, and I'm hoping that someone who's done this exact thing in Max can share how they did it. The creator of Bento Buddy made a plugin for Max, but that doesn't work either, and they ended up pulling it when they started working on Bento Buddy. Can you explain you you used to xml file to try and fix thing? I opened up an exported shape, and only saw position info (most of which was zeroed out and not really helpful).
  19. That doesn't seem to matter, since no facing works. Regardless of the facing, rigged mesh will not upload. Also worth noting that the LL skeleton is facing the wrong way.
  20. I have been having this problem for quite some time now, and it is driving me insane. No matter what I do, I can't seem to get a working skeleton. Whether it's creating one from scratch, importing dev kits, using bought plugins and scripts to try and fix imports, or the actual LL skeletons, nothing seems to want to work. Almost every single rigged item I upload is completely mangled or won't even upload, and I cannot fix it no matter how many years I spend trying to fix it. Could someone please explain to me what is going on? What does SL not like about everything that isn't Blender (which I am absolutely not going to use, don't even suggest it)? I am absolutely losing my mind over this because my store is an utter wasteland because I can't upload anything.
  21. I play at 11 years old, and it's really hard to find furniture for that age range. I did a little research and it turns out that this is also a challenge in real life. After around maybe 9 or 10, its really hard to get furniture for boys, and you tend to start transitioning to "adult" furniture. What I ultimately found was that real world preteens go for more grown up furniture, but still with brighter colours and some themes. My first bedroom had think striped walls and a slightly nautical themed bed (I think it was from LISP), with a multi-colour wardrobe. No rocket ship beds or anything, but still a little kiddy. Hope that helps.
  22. I can't remembered the name of the house I sometimes use, bit if you search MP for "grunge townhouse" or something like that, there's a really nice 3/4 bedroom house that's somewhere around 20 or 30 LI. There's a non-grunge version, but that's how I remember finding it. I like it a lot, and it's not palacial like so many SL houses are.
  23. It really depends. My main probably coated about L$2000 or L$3000 plus clothing, since older child avatars aren't terribly expensive. I built my alt though using a free mesh avatar and clothe him in stuff from advent gifts, so he only coated about L$100 (mostly for the hair). It all really depends on the kind of avatar, your timing, and what you want to spend. I want to keep my alt low cost, so I just don't buy him expensive things.
  24. I understand that sharing your login info is a ToS violation. What you could do is start making folders and subfolders for things and spend, say, 10 min per day sorting through your inventory. For example, I have various subfolders in my Clothing folder to sort various styles of clothing, including items that aren't being worn or things for different avatars. I also have folders for buildings, avatar accessories, and the like, so as go remove things from my Objects folder (which is more like my temporary shopping basket).
