Need to be Careful with PBR no Forced Update Ever
FaintOutline replied to Jase Devin's topic in Second Life Viewer
I run an intel i7 3.2GHz 6 core, 16 GB, with a Radeon RX Vega 64 with 8 gigs of Vram, Mac OS Sonoma, and it simply will not run Firestorm PBR. Any busy sim will not fully rez, ever. Gray everywhere. The Linden PBR viewer is just fine, almost instant loads even with 25 other avatars. I find Firestorm clumsy partly due to the fact I have not used it in years. But it works!! The Vega is not the newest card but it consistently produces quite adequate performance, 16GB would be nice, but frankly I don't think anything will fix Firestorm PBR. I am using PBR environments written by several of my skin designer friends. -
Are viewers for Mac on borrowed time?
FaintOutline replied to Modulated's topic in Second Life Viewer
I have a Mac mini i7 with a Radeon 8gb Vega 64 and it simply will not work with the latest PBR version of Firestorm. Works well enough on my sim -- but any crowded club simply never loads, and I literally mean NEVER. Gray everywhere. The Linden Viewer is not terrible, but I am so out of practice using it. EDIT: I have now spent some time setting up my graphics on the Linden viewer and frankly it is as fast as my non-PBR Firestorm. Firestorm is just totally hopeless, no matter how low I set the graphics it never loads everything in a complex environment. I will most likely never use Firestorm again.- 73 replies

Very Sad News for Blueberry lovers
FaintOutline replied to Persephone Emerald's topic in General Discussion Forum
I guess like a lot of people, I outgrew Blueberry, but actually learned a lot about my own RL business from her. She moved a lot of product, I read 20 million units in an interview with her. Blueberry will be missed. -
How do I make a simple prim semi-transparent?
FaintOutline replied to FaintOutline's topic in Building and Texturing Forum
Ah yes, I have a reasonably fast eGPU, a Radeon Vega, so I was just using graphics set at "ultra" so shadows were on. When I turned them off, everything went back to normal. Of course there is Apple bug. LOL Thanks, it was making me nuts trying to fix it. I have been looking at those little Beelink Mini PC's I am so tired of Apple bugs in SL. The Beelink comes with the same graphics as my Mac so should be fine. -
I am a simple builder mostly using purchased landscaping items and buildings, but I add textures and simple objects. After trying out the new PBR release of the second life viewer I found many of my signs on walls had disappeared. Any texture set at say 50% was gone. I then tried to create a simple cube and found I could only make it fully opaque at zero, or totally transparent. Any semi-transparent texture was gone. I managed to repair most of the signs by reapplying textures, so of which when Alpha Mode was set to nothing would go semi. But still I cannot create a simple prim. What am I missing here?

I think it is when you do this in RL, and the woman tells all her friends, and you have to never show your face in public again.

Is that where you lie on your back, spin, and fly around the room?

it is a huge laugh for sure, the dances are so funny it's almost worth the lindens. My reaction was "are some men really this bizarre in real life?" This animation had to come from somewhere. LOL The Aeros is by far more realistic -- but the P is in fact now much better than a Hugsie looks-wise. Most of the efforts on SL look like a wrinkle.
-
As far as I know Ray is still alive. But many have posted to the contrary. Interestingly it was a CSR on the "P" group who set the record straight, and sent me the link.
-
Yes on my oldest version when I attach the box and "edit" I find "Faeros." But when not open it is Ray. Thinking back on the 20 years I have been in SL there have been an awful lot of "me." I do remember aeros in general posting notes warning about copies. But right now I was just glad to get the free redeliveries, one 17 year old, which I did not back up. I bought most of my copies in-world and do vaguely remember the seller being Ray. The listing is indeed very odd.
-
The copy I purchased for my Alt shows Ray Silent as the creator. I also checked the creator on my three redeliveries and they are also Ray Silent. I also looked at the ad-dons , also ray The current animated box was created by Faeros Kroll. I checked the deliveries from 2017 in my archives, they show no creator on the animated box ( the box turns your avatar upside down) I have no other way to look at what this product actually is, other than to say Ray is warning buyers not to buy if they are the least bit unsure. My 4 all worked. I know nothing more.
-
Just a note from Ray Silent: The remote database has been disabled ... Please make copies of the item and corresponding HUD in your inventory to mimic presets functionality. Thank you for understanding! This does not in any way affect the functionality of the 6.1 or the Apollo beta, there is just no remote database.
-
Perhaps SL has not lost interest in Aeros? There is no way to measure interest or sales. Only Ray Silent knows --- Ray has enough interest to put the product on MP, all I know.
-
Currently it would seem the Aeros offerings are directed at those who have aeros experience and want a redelivery or an aeros for a new Avi. The Aeros is as simple as a Hugsie, so not much support is really needed, but there is no group and no demos. I am not really sure what the "save" function that is missing was, since I always saved Huds locally. Does anyone know? Currently you can only get a redelivery if you bought on MP. All the items are listed, but unless you know the line, X{S} will not mean Xerxes{smooth}.

I much prefer the simplicity of the Aeros.

Agreed -- but there appears to be more need for testing, I was chastised for not being a beta tester. But never really figured out what was entailed with becoming one. This is so regular I can't imagine how it was missed. Implication at the time I reported it was -- there were no beta testers. LOL At the time I first posted -- I did not feel very comfortable about so many Apple "do you want to report this" messages. I just downgraded and now only think about it when someone like you reads the thread.

Remote Group invites fail for me.
FaintOutline replied to FaintOutline's topic in General Second Life Tech Discussion
Not that I know of -- when inviting my alts into a group -- I just suffer with the lag of running two avatars, but it works well enough. -
Remote Group invites fail for me.
FaintOutline replied to FaintOutline's topic in General Second Life Tech Discussion
I opened a ticket and received this response. "We are aware of an issue that causes group invitations to sometimes fail unless both residents are online when the invitation is accepted. Our engineers are working on a solution, but we do not currently have an estimated timeframe for when this solution will be implemented. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. In the meantime, you should be able to work around this issue by having both parties (the resident sending the invitation, and the resident who is receiving it) online at the same time when the invitation is accepted." Good to know and the work-around is not overly painful. -
I have tested it on all viewers and it does not work. Regarding why? Only an invite works if the group is not open to all. Invites only work right now if both parties are online. I opened a similar discussion, never really got any responses that solved the issue. I have 4 groups and have sent invite for year -- this a new glitch, started a ticket on it.

This just started for me. But I can live with it. I do use firestorm. Might be a setting I screwed up, why I posted. -
Remote Group invites fail for me.
FaintOutline posted a topic in General Second Life Tech Discussion
Currently I can only invite another member to join my groups -- If I am on the same sim at the same time -- using either click directly on the other avatar, or start a regular invite. If I send out an invite, and log off, the member gets a dialog box, but clicking on "join" just clears the box and nothing happens. I even starting asking for 1L so there would be another confirmation/ box. I have tested it all over the place with different groups, and avatars (my alts, and friends) and remote invites never actually work. Any of the same experience? Thoughts?
