  1. I only close threads when I have a joke to post. And I don't have a joke for this one. Unless... What if THIS is the joke? Whaaaaa-
  2. Reminder (since it's been a while!):
  3. This thread has been quarantined. I wash my hands of distributing warnings to anyone, since I understand this topic can get people all fired up, but I did go ahead and sanitize the thread anyway. Fortunately, the thread never truly went viral, so there were only 8 pages. For real, though, stay safe everyone, wash your hands, and be cool to each other. This may be a non-issue for some, but it's going to be a huge deal for others. Please make sure everyone's respecting that.
  4. We got reports of a dihydrogen monoxide leak, so we're locking the thread. A new-ish hazmat team has gone through and cleaned it up, and, though they're a bit wet behind the ears, it should be safe to go about your normal forum activity. If additional leaks or violations are discovered, please make sure to summon our crack team of dihydrogen monoxide specialists using the appropriate abuse reporting tool (Report Abuse in-world, Report Post in the community, Flag on the Marketplace). We're ready to help you!
  5. I can't speak to the rest of this forum topic, but "Information-only" listings are not permitted. Selling something for 0L$ that essentially gives you an advertisement for the real item would result in the item being delisted. That, and a bunch of angry buyers. Buyers do not like it when they have to read into the item description to understand what they're getting as-is. Imagine how much worse it will be if they're not even getting the item.
  6. Remember when this thread was about land? Good times. Thread's locked, y'all. Let's try to stay on topic next time!
  7. Gentle reminder that discussion of actual moderation action—e.g this thread was removed, I was banned, etc.—is not permitted. If, at any time, you believe you've been unfairly or inappropriately actioned, you're invited to create a support ticket at https://support.secondlife.com/create-case/ to submit an Abuse Appeal. Side note: the Abuse Appeal category is not for reporting abuse. There's an in-world tool, mysteriously named Report Abuse, just for such a purpose. It's the best and only way to get the attention of the Governance Team to review in-world abuse claims. For those premium members who like to report abuse to Live Chat, that's the tool they're using to let the Governance Team know about the abuse. You can skip a step and go straight to the source if you use Report Abuse. So, to recap: This thread is to discuss what you can do on the forums Abuse Appeals go to Support under the Abuse Appeal category Reports of Abuse go to Governance using the in-world Report Abuse tool Bob's your uncle FIIIIIIIIVE GOOOOOOLD RIIIIIINGS
  8. I can, but in the interest of communicating the spirit of the law and not the letter, I'm not going to. The reason for this is that the more specific I get in an example, the more it encourages someone to get closer to the line, e.g. "Jagix said that Monday is a bad day for racist profanity, but he never said anything about regular profanity on a Wednesday, so I'm in the clear! What do you mean I got actioned!? That's not what Jagix said!" Also, fun fact: actioned is the blanket term for warnings, suspensions, and terminations, etc, as opposed to sanctioned. I suppose I could use sanctioned, but... nah. I'd be missing two letters if I were trying to spell sanctioned instead of actioned! Actual footage of the Moderation Team when someone violates the Community Standards
  9. It depends on the offense. Someone who willfully, blatantly, and repeatedly violates the Community Standards, particularly in an egregious way, is likely to be actioned both on the Forums and in-world. You're not likely to get an in-world suspension, however, for a minor offense. There's no joke in this post, and, for that, I am ashamed. Oh, wait, is this the joke part? Whaaaaaa-
  10. For those playing the home game, Pussycat Catnap has some good advice:
  11. Everyone is obligated to follow the Terms & Conditions (which includes the Community Standards, among other policies). You're not, per se, obligated to report people who aren't, but it'd be sort of like going, "Man, there's a lot of crime here! Someone should call the police, but not me, because I'm not a snitch!" We're here to help and make those determinations. Follow the rules, report people who you think aren't doing that, and we'll make that determination. There's no penalty for being wrong on either end; mass reporting to get someone suspended isn't a thing, and you're not going to get in trouble for being wrong about your report, unless it's really clear that you're submitting false reports to purposefully clog up the reporting systems.
  12. Hey, remember that time that we all read the Community Participation Guidelines, especially the part below, and then we continued posting pictures of our avatars? Good times.
  13. I see this has gone back down into the weeds of interpersonal disputes, so it's musical thread lock time. Fortunately, the thesis of this thread has given me inspiration. Time to lock this thread now The discussion's done Don't be sad it's ending There will be more fun I know at times the topic's tense And you don't know just what to do Fellas, I have some locking to do Tranquil in the forums That's the goal, the end Following the Standards Keeps your comments in Sometimes unkind words have made us fought And a thread is just kinda doomed That's why I have some locking to dooooooooooooo 'Cause this thread Ran its course like a river 'Cause this thread Stirred up fights like a great typhoon 'Cause this thread Has been flaring up like a fire Maybe we bit off a bit more than we could cheeeeeeeeeew
  14. Here is clarification on Linden Lab's Policy Regarding Age-Play as linked in the Terms and Conditions. But not everyone speaks legalese or wants to think too hard about what the wiki states, so I also memified it for you Hey hey hey, where did Geordi make his ban hammer? In La Forge!
  15. While Thanksgiving may not be celebrated yesterday by countries other than the US, it appears that the time honored tradition of gathering with your family and going off on a long, uncomfortable tangent that makes everyone angry and leaves important people feeling dehumanized holds strong, even if it's just another Thursday. At a normal Thanksgiving, there's not much you can do to erase all the terrible fights. But here? There's me! Like a good set of tupperware, I've scooped up the leftovers, and now we're all on topic again. Let's keep it that way.
  16. There can be miiiiiiraaaacles When you beeeeliiiiiiiieve
  17. Despite treatment and awareness being better than ever, many mental health issues are seriously misrepresented, misunderstood, and mistreated. Without proper, individualized care, there is no one here who will be able to give all the answers. Many have given great advice and excellent resources, and I recommend perusing this thread for more information. In any case, I do want to say that it's great to see that so many of you are inspired and passionate about helping out a fellow misfit. Even when the advice isn't the best, the intentions are good, and the purpose is clear—to give a fellow resident a way to cope—and that's what community is all about. The fact of the matter is that, in one way or another, we're all misfits. That's sort of the beauty of Second Life. It's a world where you can be anything. If there's a community for people like you, you can join it. And if there isn't, you can create it. We're incredibly passionate about that behind the scenes. So yes, while it's time for this thread to end, I am glad to see the community supporting one another. And, because none of my thread locks are ever too serious, you can have this: Forum Serenity Prayer Mods, grant me the serenity* to use the ignore button The courage not to take the bait And the wisdom to know when to let a thread die *serenity is knowing you can't stop the signal, but you can stop the noise coming out of the trolls
  18. I'm going through and cleaning up some of this thread, but, in the meantime, I'm going to remind everyone not only to follow the Community Standards here, but to also treat mental health and mental illness with the delicacy the topic merits.
  19. Oh man, if you don't know professional wrestling, you're gonna have a bad time with this one. It's the New Day. Look 'em up. You're welcome. Aaaaawwwwwwww good morning, Second Life Community Forums! Don't you dare be sour! Clap your hands for the world famous end of thread moderation technique And feel the power! IT'S A NEW LOCK, YES IT IS Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoooooa, whoa! Stop lookin' for this old thread Let it go, cause this thread is dead So move along, that's what I said It's in the rear view mirror, I've sent it off to bed Wanna get on the right road? On the right track, on the right flow? Follow Standards that you all know Here is a link, in the rare case that you don't The time is now, the moment is here Enough with the jeers, it's been moved up a tier Now we'll moderate it The future is now, Community Standards power Gotta submit reports, do not resort Into your hands don't take it And profanity is always wrong even when the pressure is on That's when it's time to be calm Just look in the mirror and don't engage Don't be what you hate 'cause it's time to be great So c'mon and embrace a new thread C'mon these critiques you can shed If you block, there's no need to talk And while them haters keep hating, you'll be winning the race Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoooooa, whoa! Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoooooa, whoa!
  20. There are quite a few pages of interpersonal disputes here, and that's no fun. Here's a reminder that any personal problems you may wish to discuss with one another should be kept to private messages, and the thread should stay on topic. That way, we're all having a good time discussing art and whatnot. There is some interesting discussion regarding what qualifies as art, and I wouldn't want to end the discussion because we can't keep the fights down. Thanks in advance!
  21. We had an outage earlier today, but it should be resolved now. If you have any further issues, please file a support ticket at https://support.secondlife.com/create-case
  22. Three things: The fact that anyone is lamenting about not having one of these new homes is evidence that the efforts are appreciated. Granted, I have literally nothing to do with this effort, but that's how I see it. The airflow in the new Linden Homes is pretty decent, which probably means that the venting was successful. Speaking of air, maybe keep the hot air of interpersonal disputes out of this thread. Or all threads, really. It's summer. It's hot enough. Now's not the time to get heated. It's the time to chill. Or, the short version: Respect. Pun. Chill.
  23. You win the No-Prize Prize and may quote this in your signature if so desired.
  24. I know everyone's excited to get one of my famous creative thread locks, but, if we can't keep the personal insults out, avoid Adult tangents, and steer the discussion on-topic, I'm going to have to lock the thread with something so uncharacteristically boring, everyone will be sad. Don't make everyone sad, y'all.
  25. Good news! The Governance Team never discloses the results of a report to either the reporter or the reported person. This keeps both parties' privacy in tact and protects you from reprisals when reporting abuse. Governance can't review the matter until and unless you have filed a report, however, so it's important to do so right away! If you've already done it, you're a friend to both humans and animals, because it allows the team to investigate the issue. Please remember that a report does not automatically result in action, but Governance will be sure to give it a thorough review!
