  1. I'd like to leave an avatar at my reception desk with an animation as if she is at the computer, or answering phones, etc. How can I achieve this? I thought of using a dummy bot but they do not have a good appearance to me. I've been to sims (like Angel Rock) where there are models walking around. Sometimes they are greeters. How can I do this? Thanks.
  2. Thank you! I did speak to our IT people and they were surprised we got as far as we did, but nothing about "don't do it" was ever communicated. Thank you for this useful information.
  3. We have a university sim. One of our faculty would like to offer academic advising and we have purchased a media screen for this purpose. It works great! Within Second Life, we can go on the student advising website using our username and password, and see all of the student information (classes taken, grades, etc). The problem is that only the faculty that signed on can see the contents on the screen. For example, when my colleague signs in, he sees everything but all I see is a color-blocked screen. The same thing happens when I sign in and he sees a screen with panels of color. We imagine that this is a security feature embedded within our University website, but is there a work-around for this? We would love to be able to offer advising this way. We purchased a $1L media screen -- would a more expensive (and thus, more features) screen make a difference? (BTW, two screens side-by-side wouldn't work because the student does not have access to the advising information that faculty do.)
  4. We are a group of professors on a university island that is close to the prim limit. A project has come up that would require us to use hundreds of more prims. Deleting or moving what we have is no longer an option (we've done all that we can and still need more room). I wasn't a part of the group that started Second Life on campus so I don't know how it was done in the first place, but is it as simple of buying more land and attaching it to our existing island or is it much more complex? 9/21/14: Thank you all for the answers, each one of you have added to my knowledge about this problem. We are an educational sim but we do not qualify (nor are we receiving) any discount. From what I understand, this was discontinued a few years back and the only institutions to receive an educational discount are the ones who have five or more regions. This is why a lot of universities have sadly pulled out. For this issue we've decided to go the route of replacing the old, chunky prim items with new low-prim items. It'll be a long process but it'll save us $$ in the long run. Thanks everyone!
  5. I have all the rights and priveleges on the land in my area. Recently a colleague with the same rights mistakenly deleted a house -- which was okay because I wanted to replace it with a lower-prim house anyway. The old house was about 155 prims by itself, the furniture maybe added another 50-60 prims. However, I purchased a new, low-prim home (41 prims) and the message I get is "parcel is too full." I had the builder down-scale the house -- which worked -- but now I cannot rez one piece of furniture inside. Any ideas? Thank you in advance for your help! Actual message: Second Life: Can't rez object 'Library End Table' at { 176.779, 218.958, 21.0213 } on parcel 'Valdosta State University - Dr. Bell's Office - Luis Campana' in region Valdosta State University because the parcel is too full UPDATE: I've read through the two potential solutions offered below. I wanted to add that the original house was definitely deleted along with two other houses, not hidden or misplaced. I've arranged it so that I can see the parcel lines; the parcel is not that big. It's not much bigger than the house that sits on the parcel (the parcel is about 23x23). I have been speaking to the original builder of our island and although we have to speak by phone for more details, he hinted at my recently changing the group settings as a possible culprit. The parcel was originally set to the main group, but a few months ago I created a smaller faculty group and set each faculty's parcel to the faculty group. I don't understand the impact of this yet, but it makes sense. I will update again if this is the problem, in the case that other people have the same problem.
