  1. i notice my biggest problem is shared connection in house. With my IPTV STB on, my download speed is 3.3 mbit. When i turn it off, it raise up to 5 mbit...and that makes world difference in rezzing, and packet losses. Hope ill get this new 50/2 mbit package soon, VDSL
  2. this became frustrating...having excellent hardware, but slow SL rezzing. Lowering settings dont help at all...my fps are always high, but that rezzing and downloading are pain I run admin CMD command Tracert 216.82.51.147 1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.2.1 2 20 ms 20 ms 22 ms asrpo2.tel.net.ba [85.94.144.44] 3 21 ms 23 ms 23 ms po2-asrpo2-l2.tel.net.ba [85.94.144.245] 4 22 ms 23 ms 22 ms brdrpo-po2.tel.net.ba [85.94.144.69] 5 29 ms 30 ms 31 ms 195.29.110.201 6 46 ms 46 ms 42 ms 87.128.238.117 7 46 ms 44 ms 46 ms 217.239.39.22 8 * * * Request timed out. 9 * * * Request timed out. 10 197 ms 209 ms 205 ms LINDEN-RESE.bar1.Phoenix1.Level3.net [4.53.104.14] 11 * * * Request timed out. 12 * * * Request timed out. 13 192 ms 190 ms 190 ms sim10441.agni.lindenlab.com [216.82.51.147] Trace complete. Should i call my ISP and complain or contact LL? I have hardwired DSL connection , 4mbit download 0.35 mbit upload. Bandwith is setted at 500
  3. I have similar PC, bit older generation overclocked i5 2500k, 16gb ddr3 1600, GTX 970, 250 gb SSD, 40gb SSD for chache only One of most important parts, what most people forget about is.. size and resolution of your display. I can run SL full ultra, with 16x AA and Ambient Oclusion on on 1080p resolution, and even oh highest populated, crowded mesh places, zooming around my camera...GPU usage rare go above 40-50% Nvidia have something new that is called DSR or dinamic scale resolution. Basicly if you have Full HD monitor, you can set custom resolution when enable DSR like 1.2x, 1.5x, 2x.2.5x.4x Graphic card will render much more pixels and display them on your native resolution display. Is not good like buying 1440p or 4k monitor, but image is way shaper and more detailed than with native 1080p. In that way you can ulitize your graphic card 100% in Second Life. Or get some new flashy 1440p monitor. BIggest bottleneck in Second life is internet conenction. You want fast one, wired, not wifi. And if possible, set up your router QoS (quality of service) so your connection have advantage over other ones if you have them at home (phone, tv, laptop etc..) That PC is more than good to run SL with all eye candy, and it will hardly even sweat. Good choice picking up that system EDIT: And get an SSD for your boot-main drive, use that HDD for storage. Biggest upgarade for PC that you will really feel.
  4. dont want to open new thread to share my new expirience. Hope ill get some explanations I have pretty high end Desktop PC, and for now i have relative slow internet connection. My specs are i5 2500k 4.5 ghz 16gb DDR3 1600 CL9 40gb SSD sata 2 for SL chache only 250gb SSD for boot disk, Windows 10 Pro GTX 970 G1 with 373.06 drivers (new drivers are **bleep**ty, downgrades performance because Nvidia want users upgarade on new gen cards) Seasonic S620 PSU Corsair H100 watercooling for now 3.1 download /0.35 upload hardwired ADSL So is pretty high end PC, should have no trouble running SL on max specs. Funny thing is, my native screen resolution is full HD 1080 and running full ultra SL on candy make in high crowded mesh places GPU usage of 30% more less. New Nvidia feature called DSR or dinamic scale resolution, allow us to render higher resolutions than native display one. Basicly is type of AA funny thing.. when i play on 1080p, open statistics bar. I have huge packet losses, sometimes more than 10%. Now when playing in 1440p resolution (2560x1440), rendering avatars and world loading is much faster, and packet loss go back to 0% -1% I tested couple times, and what's bugging me, i cant see how that 2 can be related. I tested LL IP packet loss via CMD command, and is perfectly normal, in Ping test showing me that too. 0% I wonder, how is possible that i have constant 60 FPS on higher resolution, but have problems on my native one. Is there a connection with my graphic card workload 100% and my bandwith, so that cancle packet losses? i set my bandwith slider at 900 kbps big mistery
  5. These days i see lot of "package loss and high ping sim" i test my internet connection to Dallas, and it's showing me 3.1 mbit download and 0.35 upload (yea hilarious i know, i hate you HT-eronet most crappy internet provider in world) well since we still dont have fiber optics in my area, im stuck with this biggest performance issue i have both in FPS drops, and lag is due to that 2 things ping sim, and packet loss (sometimes above 20%) im hardwired to my router, and i have IPTV and one laptop on wifi... I wonder, how much actually internet speed (download upload) affect gameplay and rezzing inworld
  6. Do you overclock that i5 K procesor and Z97 chipset motherboard? (if not, that is huge waste of money) What OS, viewer and amount of memory you have? All guys on windows 10, try this: go in RUN and type: gpedit.msc than go in administrative templates --> Network ----> QoS Packet Scheduler-----> Limint reservable bandwith ---> set this from 80% to 0% also disable some windows stupid spying stuff that eats a lot of bandwith
  7. Silverstone strider is not bad PSU, but for similar price i recommend EVGA Supernova G2 550w fully modular, because it have 7 years warranty. Also dont focus on PSU Wattage, but Amps on 12V Rails that can deliver and efficiency. 450w evga is more powerful than chieftec 600w. That is only label of "contionous or peak wattage" what in reality dont mean almost anything. New skylake arhitecture is not power hungry, and GTX 960 also dont require much power. Important question: What resolution and size is your monitor? If you play on 1080p than GTX 960 with 2gb frame buffer is more than enaugh. But if you ever plan to go higher resolutions like 2560x1800, having 2gb + card can yeald benefit with not much difference in cost. Advice about DDR4 memory speed and latency. DOES not matter. I would go with cheapest pair there, and invest money difference in better GPU and PSU But all together, really good build
  8. I applogize for late replys im not often here on forum... if anyone need any kind of advice, feel free to send me message inworld, glad to help ya all
  9. I dont like that procesor at all. I try it!. Yes it overclocks a good, and is waaay better purchase than and i3 crap. If you on budget, ok, buy it...and when you able replace it with nothing less than i5 4460. SL use multiple threads, so quad core make huge difference (pentium is dual core but yes, really high freq and can be overclocked for cheap) Today the best thing to do is to go with new skylake platform. i5 6400. amazing stuff
  10. sure happy to help ya. Ill dig for parts and send you my recommendations i think Neweeg.ca stands for canada, but hey most of parts will be shipped within few days to you without too much aditional cost. Here is 600$ for you processor: i5 4460 249 USD http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117302 motherboard 86 USD http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128822 Graphic card: GTX 760 220$ this one if refurbished, buti ll check if have warranty, than go for it! incredible price for amazing gpu http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487035 GTX 760 210$ this is same card, but with referental (stock) cooler, but since this cards run funny low wattage for its preformance, there is no fear of heat. I say go for it http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500306 Power supply : this is ok power supply for this combo and your budget...(most important part of pc, never buy cheap uknown brands!) Evga 500w 60$ http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438016 this is for me good package for 600$ ....add littlebit more for 2 x 4gb ddr3 memory if you dont have it allready, and hard drive On top all that, thing what will probabbly make your pc blazing fast is SSD, you dont need big one, use 60gb one for only windows and some aplications you use. They are cheap these days.
  11. sso happy you are satisfied with this solution...i got so much negative comments from lol...experts in this area.. i should call this thread budget pc build for sl, but back on topic xeon you have will work in full power if you manage to find cheapo p45 chipset motherboard, for example asus p5q or gigabyte ep45 /ds4 or any p45.. than you can OVERCLOCK your cpu to 3.6 or if you have good memory and cooler even up to 4.0 grab nvidia gtx 560 ti and enjoy ultra preformance... i have now asus p5q pro motherboard 30$ x5460 cpu overclocked to 4.0 40$ , and on this freq is on par with i5 2500 that cost 5x more 8 gb ddr2 corsair twinx 40$ gtx 560 ti 448 core 70$ and corsair tx650 psu 50$ i run 2 viewers on ultra, web browser, dj software, blender, photoshop same time....cpu usage is 80% cheers,
  12. agree with everything said in post above mine! dont buy laptops for SL! tell me your budget and ill advice you to buy COMPONENTS, never ever buy brand pc like dell, lenovo etc... go with quad intel, nvidia gtx, and BRAND powersupply, SSD If you short on budget, there is some parts you can get cheap on ebay and save you tons of money (even with warranty)
  13. i honestly advice if you have room and possibility to go with high end desktop pc rather than laptop 2000$ laptop is 10x slower than good builded custom desktop 700$ you get so much more expirience
  14. yea i did...50, 75$ budget for example for beggining go with brand name PSU, because that is main part of your build and most important one. you can found good corsair new 50$ PSU requierments on web page is for noobs, so if card telling is needed 550w supply that is in 99% cases lie. you have to focus on 12A rails, and if he had GT 9600 that need 20A on that rails, there is good possibility he can use GTX 660 that need 22A (whole system not only gpu) Ebay also sell new stuff but older generation, so unpacked brand new non used GTX older models 2xx, 4xx, 5xx, and even 6xx (waste on money for second life btw) so again. Dont spend 50$, 75$...rather spare 50$ more and you will be happy with your investment for littlebit longer time, than buy something new but really low end. That GT 9600 you had is good card, and i advise you if you dont have money, rather buy used but higher end for less money, than new but so badly optimised. I work with hardware for my living, build PCs 10+ years, also im moderator on local hardware forum so i know what im talking about. if you are on low budget, go with used stuff...but normally dont expect that 50$ hardware will least for years.
  15. man...that is a really bad advice sorry.....730 is a crappy low end card, 64bits...and is newer, yes....but way less powerfull than gt9800 if you chose newer card, go with nothing less than 760 witch is expencive... or best bet for you is 560 ti used, what can be found cheap on ebay... dont use low budget 64bit cards! yes they have cuda cores, yes they have ddr5 memory, but BUS (64bit) and crappy low power maxwell arhitecture in that card is for HTPC and blu ray movies, not for SL with that card, you can get maby good fps in medium graphics....for me, wasting money why you have to use single slot graphic card with that motherboard? you have below 3 old PCI slots i doubt you have to use one... i will help you, tell me your location (usa or europe) ill found you components on ebay for cheap if you want
  16. that core 2 quad q9400 you have is perfectly capable for second life my advice is to go on ebay and found good p45, p35, x38 chipset motherboard with 4 memory slots. Search for motherboards branded by gigabyte, asus or evga (690,680,780 and 790 chipset). they need to be 1333 FSB ti run your GREAT procesor. also you dont need new expencive graphic card. My advice is to invest in good brand powersupply (antec, corsair, seasonic, fractal design, enermax) and you need to have powersuppy with capable 12V rail with lot of amperage, not watt on sticker! for example, you can have GTX 260, GTX 280, GTX 460 for less than 50$ used, and all of them in combo with your processor will run SL maxed with 30 fps minimum. I have system with q9300,corsair TX650w, GTX 260, DFI x38 motherboard and 8 gb ddr2 ram 800 and i run full ultra, 250 draw distance, max antiailasing, antistropic filtering with minimum 30 fps in crowded sim with 15 avatars on 1080p resolution. All build cost less than that GTX 750 graphic card. here is thread for you, ill happy to help you. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/General-Second-Life-Tech/Second-Life-PC-building-guide/m-p/2883852#M2246
  17. In other hand....dont everyone have 700$ to spend on new PC Dont worry folks, go like me- USED PARTS One good, cheap, awsome, fast (i have 50+ fps maxed settings, 300 draw distance, all utra, 16x antialiasing, antistropic filtering on) Answer is....old good 775 intel platform Procesor Q9300, Q9400, Q9550, Q9650 is something will work out of the box, but... There can be even better-stronger-CHEAPER combination.. Xeon procesors with 775 socket modification and prices can be even less than 50$. Ok, this is a littlebit geek territory, but on ebay, just search for one of those (they have modification stickers, and mostly came free shipping from china) ill show one awsome combination, and this is awsome if you have ddr2 ram lying arround Xeon E5440 40$ free shipping, and same-even better than q9550 for half of the price. But you have to do some research what chipset your motherboard have, cant do this mod on every motherboard, but mostly you can (chipset x38, and x48 cant) Motherboard Go with ASUS or GIGABYTE here if you buy used 775 socket. They are old, but full of features for example, this is awsome one http://www.ebay.com/itm/ASUS-P5Q-WS-Socket-775-ATX-Workstation-MotherBoard-Intel-P45-/121503504703?pt=Motherboards&hash=item1c4a2c593f MEMORY ddr2 is used here...you have some ddr3 motherboards for this socket, but they are expencive and my oppinion not worht it. Look for good speed ddr2, that is important here because this platfor can be overclocked, if you found good ddr2 1066 memory cheap, grab it! everything else can be used same like new platforms, as i post before. So...why use old 7 years socket and platform for second life? Because when overclocked can compare with 1000$ PC for second life. I have this platform, and still love it! Buy it if you have ddr2 memory at home, and dont wanna spend money on new stuff. GRAPHIC CARDS....old ones HA! this is my territory check this out! 50$ http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-Nvidia-GeForce-GTX-280-GTX280-Graphics-Adapter-1GB-GDDR3-Dual-DVI-I-X103G-/201240540283?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash=item2edadef47b 95$ http://www.ebay.com/itm/ASUS-NVIDIA-GTX-560-1GB-DirectCU-Graphics-Card-/171633505027?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash=item27f6277303 50$ http://www.ebay.com/itm/PNY-Nvidia-GeForce-GTX-260-896MB-PCI-e-2-0-x16-Card-XLR8-Performance-Edition-/111556184231?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash=item19f94448a7 Ok...this graphic cards run way hotter and spend more electricity than new ones, and you need GOOD powersupply, with lot of AMPS on 12V rails, but hey....ultra SL with 40+ fps?...no problem
  18. that deppends of rest system you have HP pavilion telling nothing (mostly crappy build cheap office PC´s not made for gaming) what CPU,motherboard, ram and mostly important Power supply you have if you dont know, download software called Piriform Speecy, and you will have list of your components If your cpu is to weak, is no point buying high end graphic card, because will be bottleneck.
  19. Ok...here is a place and parts for people who live in USA I base this build by my own preferences Procesor 190$ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117302 Motherboard 75$ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157512 Power supply 65$ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139028 Memory 67$ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104448&cm_re=4gb%2bddr3%2b1600-_-20-104-448-_-Product SSD 57$ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820721107 HDD ? i go cheap here because i dont need much storage, you can pick up used one 500 gb for 30$, if you need more go for 1TB or 2TB... just be sure is SATA 3.0 compatible CPU cooler 35$ - 70$ Hasswell procesors running hot, and this is incredible important part if you want prolonge lifespan of your expencive pc "brain"..go watercooling, is not expencive like before http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181030&cm_re=cpu_cooler-_-35-181-030-_-Product or if you prefer air cooling, this is one of best buys http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099&cm_re=hyper_evo-_-35-103-099-_-Product GRAPHICS CARD ok here i can talk like 2 pages, but with this one you will run SL maxed without sweat....and most of games on 1080p resolution (this is important) so if you use normal HD monitor or TV, go with this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121660 if you have money, and wanna be future proof and baddas with 4k monitor or multiple big screens, than go with this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500362 In reality, you can buy used GTX 560 ti for less than 100$ and have same preformance like those 2 cards in Second Life TOTAL 700$ with gtx 660, add +- 50$ for good PC case most of parts have 3-5 years warranty, extreeme fast, and i guaranty they will run max SL, 5 web tabs, Virtual DJ, Photoshop, Skype, Porn, and one first person shooter.....in same time:)
  20. Yes First rule, never ever buy pc in stores that sell all kind of electronics, go in some hardware store or buy online. Check in your area for PC shop and check they web site. You just pick parts, and tell them to build PC for you. Is their job and they will do it. prices in usa are littlebit lower than in europe, but in my area is +- like this good configuration for smaller budget i5 4460 processor + - 220$ asus H81 motherboard -50$ ddr3 4 gb -50$ GTX 660 ti +- 150$ SSD for operating system (go fast and little, 80 gb is enaugh) 50$ +- HDD for storage (depends how much space you need, im organised and dont keep data i dont use or need on my pc, so 500gb is plenty for me, someone who have large data 2TB is small....depends) Powersupply (search for ANTEC, Seasonic, Corsair, FSP,) 99% of other companyes sell junk and dangerous low quality PSU, and they MUST be avoided! buy for 20$ more and buy good. Check specification of 12V rails amperage, best is with only one 12V rail and minimum 40A (12V x 40A = 500w +-), powersupplys with multiple 12V rails can be good, but better with only one and strong. Go futureproof! I use Corsair TX650, cost less than 70$ and can power any stuff i throw in my pc) PC case you can find cheaper, depends on what you looking for but dont have to spend money here. Cpu cooler: if you have more than 50$ to spend on this (i advise you do it), go with corsair H60 watercooling system i personaly use now, and that will keep your CPU way cooler-lasting longer. If you found some good pc store website in your area, send me a link, ill be happy to advise you. cheers
  21. And finaly...if you are not in PC´s so much, fell free to ask here in this thread if you need advice for buying parts. tell me your budget and send me link of stores close to you, ill be happy to advice you what pc parts to pick, save some money, and have ULTRA graphic expirience for Second life for lot less money you may spend without good info cheers
  22. Lets talk now about graphics cards and SL. Most of noobs looking for a memory size of graphic cards and that is one of most common mistakes. More memory dont mean graphic card is faster. for example my gtx 260 with 896 mb ddr3 ram is 5x faster than gt640 with 4gb ddr3. More memory on graphic card is important only when you use rezolutions above 1080p, like 4k monitors and multiple bigscreen monitor what common users simply dont have need for. Also newer dont always mean faster- better. Important stuff to consider when buying graphic card is price, power usage, compatability with rest of system. my advice is to go with older high end cards if you are on budget but that is my oppinion. I rather spend on high end 3 years old quality graphic card 50$ than on new crappy one 150$. stuff you should looking for is Bus size : 256 bit or better PSU requirement: older nvidia cards demand high quality and wattage (12V amp rail specification and amperage, not number of watts on sticker) go research on sites like tomshardware or guru3d, and read reviews on cards you looking for. Some cards i used in my systems are GTX 260, GTX 560 ti, GT 9600 ...all of them are capable producing high frames per second on resolution 720p and 1080p without problem If you have good budget go futureproof and use new maxwell arhitecture of GPUs (some of 7xx series and all 9xx series of graphic cards) but you dont have to if you have good powersupply, then go with 560 ti. Check ebay and neweeg if you are located in USA, you can found graphic card capable doing ultra maxed SL with 50+ fps for less than 100$
  23. Memory: If you have older motherboard like 775 socket one, you will mostly use DDR2 memory. Only disadvantage of that is a price. DDR2 is not producing anymore, and still 50% of PCs in this world using them, so demand is high and price is often higher than DDR3 memory. I recomedn more than 4GB of ram if you using Windows operating system and playing SL. Linux users are fine with only 4 gb (ofc i allways advice you use 64bit operating system). when you use more than 4 gb ddr2-ddr3 ram, you can ulitize that extra for ram-disk, wich is way faster than ssd, and awsome solution for SL chache storage. Hard Drives: use SSD for operating system, and HDD for storage. There is many advantages of doing that, and you dont need big SSD drive, prices are way lower today and is a must have solution. Dont use SSD for SL chache!!! Install viewer on that, but move your chache folder inside your viewer on your storage HDD or even beter , use RAM DISK is you have more than 4 gb of ram. Memory (2 x 4 gb is common and somehow standard today, if you still using ddr2 and have 4 ram slots on your mainboard, go with 4 x 2 gb). Dont spend money on faster memory if you dont overclock, because is wasting money that can be invested in better graphic card)
