At the Stonewall Riot on June 27, 1969, DeLarverie threw the first punch. As the story goes, the New York City police raided the Stonewall Inn, a bar in Greenwich Village frequented by gay men, lesbians, and drag kings and queens. The police raids were habitual. That night DeLarverie saw three officers ganging up on one young man and sprang to the victim’s defense.

Today we're celebrating Orlando Cruz. In 2012 Cruz became the first professional boxer to come out during his career and one of the first professional athletes to come out while still active.

The homophobia that Cruz experienced growing up in Puerto Rico made it difficult for him to accept his sexuality, especially in the world of boxing machismo. Cruz’s internal conflict continued as rumors spread among boxing fans. This tension culminated during his 2008 world title fight. “The spectators bad-mouthed me; they called me a **bleep**got,” Cruz said. “That’s when I realized that something had to change.”

Today we're celebrating Tseng Kwong Chi. Although his work engages a wide variety of traditions, Tseng's best-known photographs are self-portraits that explore perceptions of identity and stereotypes.

Tseng’s most famous body of work is his collection of self-portraits, titled “Expeditionary Self-Portrait Series” or alternatively “East Meets West.” In the series, Tseng adopted the identity of a stereotypical Chinese dignitary, donning a Mao suit, mirrored sunglasses and an ID badge that read “SlutforArt.”

  13. You may need to resize your head shape. You can do this by right clicking on your avatar and selecting appearance and altering the head sliders. Or if you can modify the hair you can try to move it up. Right lick on the hair (either on your head or in your inventory) and select edit, slide the hair around until it fits properly.

  14. Hey, I'm new to SL and I've been having a blast! I enjoy not running into walls, waiting for buildings to rezz, sitting on objects and not being able to find myself, dancing off beat, and forgetting the alphas for my shoes resulting in awesome dual toe technology! Mostly I like to shop, dance, and explore. Anyone care to wander with me?

I joined SL to build. I've joined a few groups in that regard and have attended a few classes but I'm thinking a hands on approach might help as well. Any builders looking for an apprentice?  Also if anyone could fill me in on some of the unspoken habits of the world, for instance what is griefing? and how does roleplaying work? If I say /me does it change that to my display name?

    k. thanks!!
