Linden Lab is building a NEW virtual world
Niecia Davi replied to Jo Yardley's topic in General Discussion Forum
the promise was mad that "as long as the current sl remained "profitable" it would remain open. so since that promise the integrity and the quality of the sl world has degraded..an apparent attempt in my opinion to crash and burn the cvurrent sl before the new one comes up for release. -
SL2 and potential losses - the facts
Niecia Davi replied to Phil Deakins's topic in General Discussion Forum
i still have a hair across my butt about "stuff" bought and the prospects of losing it. Over 5 years in sl I have invested a good 1 thousand dollars in stuff so what your suggesting is that i just give up that investment (eat it so to speak) with no compensation? Seems rather unfair. Of course Linden labs is not going to offer any form of compensation because they refuse to accept any responsibility financially for our stuff. Yet it is Linden labs upgrade that will cause the loss so should they not offer some form of compensation to offset my thousand dollar loss? a thousand dollar may not seem to be a lot to you but it is a lot to me and you just through a wave of the hand say o well you used it now give it up. But what your really saying is throw my money away because you and or Linden labs dont care about my financial loss. -
It had already been stated that their will be a new scripting language and that LSL will be dead so scratch anything with scripts. No prim/sculpt objects either. (I believe 90% of all inventories will be dead. Well they will be alive AS LONG AS SL 1 exist. I can understand your sentiment as i feel the same, people like myself have invested heavily over 5 years and LL offers nothing in return. What bothers me is this has not been billed as an upgrade to sl1 or even mentioned that it will be anything like sl 1 which makes me wonder. I know they are after the gameing aspect of things. But lets face it folks this goes back to me laying a weary eye on Oz Linden. He has ALWAYS been LL's fall guy. When ever there was bad news to be told it fell on Oz to tell us and LL would mostly never supply explantions to Oz so he had none for us. SO, LINDEN LAB tell me why I should not think Oz Linden is now being used again as the bad news for the sl 1 population? It has ALWAYS been that OZ WAS the BAD NEWS GIVER FOR US SO i FEAR ONCE AGAIN HE MAY BE BEING USED AS THEIR FALL GUY IN SL1. I mean lets face it putting Oz in charge of sl1 is like going from a landlord who cares to having a slumlord! I have a good 5 thousand dollars in inventory invested here in sl1. And I am not buying this catch 22 Line that Ebbe is handing out, get the merchants to upgrade the items, first off many of my items owners have gone out of business or left sl, and the catch 22 is that owners say "well why should i upgrade because of a situation that Linden labs created? While Linden labs says to get the merchants to upgrade. Linden labs will make every excuse and talk around the fact that they are about to ask a community to sacrifice a trillion dollars in inventory WITH NO COMPENSATION, but I guess thats where Oz comes in eh?

- How do I find my keyboard when wearing the Oculus? - Can I still see the menu and send notices and IMs? Open the worldmap? Sort inventory? - Do I have at least an option to view/check my avie from 3rd person perspective? - How do I make photos? - Can hubby and me huddle together in front of the oculus and watch videos when I'm not in world? I mean when it costs 200-300 bucks I can only afford either or. - or is that thing only for gaming? What if I'm not in SL to shoot anybody? -

From what I read today about the upcoming new sl2 the scripting will change / prims will change and sculpts MAY be imported as mesh. This means dont buy anything that is prim/sculpt-based or scripted with LSL at this time they are trash and there will be NO PLACE in the NEW SL2 for them. As it stands right now it would be like buying an old television set that does not pick up the new wavelength...useless...well useless in the near future...but means you buy it plan on trashing it. haha if this wae a planned leak they best be prepared to roll out sl2 in the next 90 days or that silence you may hear may be the absence of commerce in the current sl. -

Slowing down a new sl in the transfer of items or type of items to the new sl that is not the issue 'at hand. The issue at hand is "lost revenue", lost investment in years of building up what one bought and paid for with ones own money in sl there is no other issue here. What is being said here as i read it is that the average person who invested a lot is going to be forced to eat the cost of what they spent in sl or not move forward, and in the long run suffer that loss in a final pulling of the plug on sl1 by LL any way. What we can bring forward versus what we cannot and how much money will be lost in all of that and weather or not LL gives a damn about their customers taking this loss. This definitely will have a major impact on sl commerce from this day forward. There are things now that if we buy we will not be able to transfer and why should we buy them if we cannot transfer them? They are talking a cut of 2/3 of my inventory a major investment into many items that there will be "no compensation for" just an oh well we cant do that because the new technology wouldn't handle it or it will slow it down, those type of excuses as legit as they may seem, are no explanation or help as to how we may get compensated for major losses that I will estimate will be in the billions for current sl residents. If i were any one I would be very selective about buying in world right now and only buy according to the flimsy guidelines that have been provided so far by LL. it is a shame that we are being forced into a corner and having these new movements towards change masking the fact that in order for it to happen all sl residents from the littlest guy to the most major investor will have to choke down a loss an expense that LL at this point does not give a damn about. -

This whole thing stinks the high heavens of corruption and greed. This is not about them creating a "better viewer" this is more about the fact that a lot of the linden exchange that is currently going on is NOT going into their pocket and the only way they can stop that is to wipe the slate clean and rewrite a new sl that stops the bleed from their pocket and more appropriately puts it into their pocket. They will have a rough time convincing me differently because they are all about money and what percentage of the pie they are currently getting. Too many other people and financial interest are getting a piece of the pie LL thinks that they are not getting and quite simply they want to change that and will do what rewriting they can to refunnel that cash they are not getting into THEIR pocket. it is a shame that they will in essence rip off millions of sl accounts and the hard earned dollars that the average persons earned and put into their inventory by wiping out those inventories they may feel as though they have the right and perhaps they do but it DOES NOT MAKE IT RIGHT!! -

thats crap because if the current populace of sl thinks they are about to suffer a loss and stop buying the funding for sl2 drops off. These questions need legit answers and not the type of skirting replies such as the one you gave. -

Considering I dropped a few thousand dollars into my current inventory...what will happen to it going forward...will i suffer a complete loss that Linden Labs will claim they are sorry but not responsible for? OR will Linden Labs "insensitively" fall back on the TOS saying "Too bad so sad not our problem" because the TOS basically gives them the right to do anything they damn well please, and rip everyone off of millions of dollars worth of material and expect us to reinvest all over again? If i stand to lose the revenue i put into my inventory and land i own why should i continue to put into it knowing Linden labs is going to pull the rug out from under my feet? These are hard questions that need to be answerd and not with technical mumbo jumbo they are legit questions that need simple legit answers.
