  1. It needs better large inventory support. I wish I were technical enough to file a bug report, but a lot of us just aren't. It now barely loads in time to even stay logged on. (Firestorm's PBR viewer is worse and you have to log in three times to finally get in). People with large inventories typically: - Engage significantly in SL - Make many purchases, which in part help to support LL directly and indirectly - Are responsible for a great many projects in SL to make it a better place. - Have been in SL for a considerable time It's easy to drag large inventory users or not make them a consideration in development when you don't realize the contribution they make. They are busy bees.
  2. Variations on a Theme of Chopin by Rachmaninov
  3. Well, so much for Labor Day. But I defo hope before Black Friday. I make most of the uniforms for SLCS. I really don't want to invest on FP meshes that don't also include what someone referred to as "Lorax" earlier (still laughing), just for the sake of longevity. FP mesh tends to cost out the wazoo, especially the good stuff (as a rule). But to be honest, I just want to play with the new body and see what it and its HUD do. And also, it would be nice to save attachment points currently used by a shoulder deformer, an thigh deformer (maybe), the Petite add-on (which always attaches BEFORE the body, which means on me it de-petite's the body and I have to re-attach it). But of course, I'd rather Maitreya do it right than right away.
  4. An unmitigated disaster. #MPHindenburg
  5. So one profiteers and the other donates to political campaigns. Both are cynically using those looking to fix a real problem to advance their own agendas. =(
  6. In fact, BLM donates all of its money to a group called Share Blue, which exists to fund political campaigns. However, there is a different group called Black Lives Matter Foundation that's worth looking into. Every human being is valuable. As someone who is multi-racial and multi-ethnic, one need only look at the Balkan wars to know where identitarian conflicts lead. In fact, Rwanda now bans all identitarian political campaigning after its horrific genocide of the 1990s.
  7. Also on the right side: "Are Communists bad?" "Is genocide bad" "Why do we need free speech? After all, there are never environmental crises that need protests, abusive police officers or government corruption to be protested, so let's ban free speech", "is X race bad?". But I usually mock before I block.
  8. Here's something a bit nerdy but maybe of use to academia for consideration at some point. What if SL could team with something like Stellarium or other stargazing app creator or institution to offer something of a virtual world meets astronomy studies thing to view a RL celestial bodies. Particularly now with the Covid fun, schools are re-imagining the role of the digital world with the classroom. If there were a way to import star files or whatnot so SL could be used as a virtual astronomy classroom, that could be useful - might also draw academia in more. Very niche and off the wall, I know. Could be neat, though.
  9. And almost every creator uses a monochrome texture for it, which might work sometimes but not always. Sometimes a texture that is actually the same as the main texture or a color variation of it works better and helps to avoid that mucousy look you see sometimes with mesh items in bright lights. You get shines with rich colors. If you don't have access to the textures on items that are only Mod, you can still sort of do that by clicking on Texture under shininess, then blank, then use the shine color picker to enhance the shine with a hue. I do this a bit on mod hair so they appear to shine as hair does rather than appearing to be covered in doughnut glaze.
  10. It's okay to ask for one easier to hear without assuming the creators are wicked reprobates worthy of hell fire. Just throwing that out there as I read the rage in this thread.
  11. To suggest that buxom is the definition of "mainstream" beauty is absurd. Perhaps it has more to do with pr0n culture which has influenced many of the creators. Certainly customers can only buy what's available. For many women, we're not interested in the Aunt Bee look, not that there is anything wrong with it. There's nothing niche about b-cup and smaller chest sizes - at all. Fizz (the creator of Tonic) has done very well with her Tonic line and clothing sellers have as well - I say that as someone who also makes clothes for Tonic. It has been a boon. So avoiding the apparent slight at non-busty people, it need not be a work of charity, but a very solid business model, as Tonic has demonstrated. I'm not sure how smaller-busted options are a threat to those who prefer larger busts, but I understand people can internalize lack of uniformity as a personal rejection of some kind. but we needn't do that. 😃
  12. So that blog compares the Slinks, SalinA, Maitreya Lena Lush, and the Bellezas, all exhibiting very nuanced differences, which is fine for people in the large breast market. Tonic's Fine Beauty as far as I know is the only major body that offers the only significantly different bust option, which was completely ignored by the blog, even though Tonic often scores in the top three bodies in SL. Its bust is smaller and closer to what many people have in RL. There was a rumor a while back that Maitreya was working on a new body that would rival the Tonic Fine, and I was thrilled to hear it. I would love to see some other creators notice. Right now there isn't much biodiversity in SL - you can have your Trabi in light gray, dark gray, and white, but you can't have a Beetle, a Fiat or a Lexus. It's a real shame because not everyone is buxom in RL or wants to be in SL, even though it's cool for those who are. It's a market that is widely overlooked.
  13. Btw, Izzie's has like 5 boxes in her store by the reception desk that contain all her older system stuff for 10L a piece. Much of it is still wonderful in 2019 (you can toss out the items that are dated). Definitely was worth picking up.
  14. Maitreya posted this last month: stating that they are working on a BoM update but have had some bumps along the way. My guess is with such market dominance, Maitreya will play it very safe, both with the release itself and with what's in the release (probably not much considered bleeding edge). Another issue is the actual release of the update itself. Given that most of SL has the Lara body, sending it to everyone at the same time could maybe cause technical issues for SL (I don't know, since I'm not a tech type person, but at that scale it seems possible). So will they have to stagger the release or coordinate at all with LL? Random thoughts. Of course the other option is that Maitreya calls it good and steps out of SL. I mean, think about it: they've achieved nearly total saturation, so new buyers are not the flood they used to be. They are having to rely more and more on clothing sales to keep the margins up, even as they incur expenses servicing the free updates of the items that have already been sold. I know, unlikely but it crossed my mind as something I couldn't blame them for.
  15. Wait, don't electric cars hook up to power grids run on coal? Eek. Still, I get your point and agree with it. Efficiency is good, and it's felt directly in places packed with avatars.
  16. One of the bodies I own is Physique and it came with two versions: BoM and classic, the latter still being sliced up and oniony. The BoM version also included a bunch of pre-made alphas you could wear. It seems to me they are offering the best of both worlds, which has to be a lot of work considering they did that for Physique, Hourglass, and the male bodies, also. Tonic is the body I usually wear but I respect the time and attention to detail Slink put into their BoM release. I think it raises the bar. As for clothing creators, it is a pain to even think about going back through mounds of clothing. I make clothes for my store and also furnish SLCS most of the uniforms they wear. I *have* to go back and make alphas for some of those - I'm not looking forward to it. But if Maitreya and Tonic (the two leading bodies used by our squad) offer both versions with their update (BoM and non-BoM) that would be a help for sure. But again, it's a lot of work and I respect the creators who do it immensely. You're getting your money's worth.
  17. Thank freaking heaven. And thanks for making sense of that. I just kept going back and seeing no movement at all on it and was feeling more and more like a lost puppy. 😂
  18. There are some cache viewers that would offer a better resolution bake. The primary issue I see here is just with permissions. I would make sure there are no licensing issues or other such before re-uploading. On the other hand, if they're your own textures, you're all set. 😃
  19. I'm not a coding geek so this is a bit Greek to me, but it sort of looks as if FS might be going for broke and trying to include the EEP update along with the BoM update. https://jira.firestormviewer.org/projects/FIRE?selectedItem=com.atlassian.jira.jira-projects-plugin:release-page Oh, and the EEP thing has 18 more issues to work out at the time of this posting. Of course, they could be really going for broke and be shooting for the 7.0 release, which would mean they have those 18 plus at least 60 more issues to resolve. In that case, December (of 2020) might not be that far off =D In all seriousness, I love the work they do but I am anxious to get my paws on FS BoM. Mainly because I use FS for so many reasons including its better camera controls - and also use its AO feature - so using another BoM viewer would be a major pain. On the other hand, Neither Maitreya nor Tonic have released their updates yet (although they have appliers patches to fake it till they make it). Slightly off-topic: Cool VL Viewer added a neat feature that lets you see animesh objects on the minimap. I wonder if FS would pick that up. Edit: This article has some more thoughts on the FS BoM release timing and how EEP plays into it: http://blog.nalates.net/2019/09/18/second-life-news-week-38/3/ Basically, the article says the EEP release is probably behind schedule and as a standalone it would likely be ready in a few week, which is pretty soon after BoM if they released that now. So the FS team seems to be really under the gun as well as stuck between a rock and a hard place. While we chomp at the bit for the BoM release, I'm going to send a shout out of encouragement to their people who do the stuff I would have no clue about doing. It's always better to show up at the party a little late than with a crapola costume.
  20. Tonic now offers BoM appliers (as of September 3rd) until the full body update is available. From Fiz Savira's notice: "I am starting to work on the bakes-on-meshes support for a future free update, but to help tide all those clamoring for bakes-on-meshes on Tonic right now, I've provided some appliers for you. On the counter in the main store is a gift box for Tonic Update Group members only. Poke the box, get the appliers and you can try bakes-on-meshes out RIGHT NOW on your Tonic body (assuming you have a viewer with support) Have fun :)"
  21. I haven't seen a lot of yelling going on. 😃 This has been six pages of a very friendly conversation and people have aired their complaints, praises, grievances, and suggestions quite reasonably as a whole. Chiding people for offering feedback (which LL does want to have) is counterproductive. We shouldn't feel ashamed to maintain open communication channels. Things in the end are more than just "the economy" or "third party processing companies", if I characterized the summary of your statements correctly, but a holistic view that encompasses those possible factors with the impact of keeping users reasonably happy, encouraging the commerce that helps sustain LL and allows many to then buy land, which also sustains the company. And of course that critical mass of 40-50k users logged in at any given time. Again, most users - nay, most regular medium- and long-term users (we can exclude the alts and newbies) are "free" users, which is in itself a misnomer since these users spend a considerable amount in SL too. We're not comparing those who give back to deadbeats; but those who can afford premium (hence the name) and those who nevertheless in many cases still spend a good bit as well as draw more people to the platform simply by being active.
  22. And let people buy them with Lindens if they want to. You should be able to purchase anything from LL in Lindens since all of it can be cashed out (and I'm sure LL won't charge itself the cash out fee, although if they use a third party that might sting them a little).
  23. Yep. More quality free users in SL (because not everyone can do premium) means more total users, which benefits premium users too. It means SL is more viable for creators, club owners, and land sellers. People who haven't tried SL will see it has more than 10 users and give it a try (SL is basically like virtual world social media and social media without a lot of people and interaction is less appealing to prospective new users). The free users outnumber the paid users considerably, I'd imagine. Without the free users, SL would be much less viable or fun for premium users, I truly believe. I know that sounds self-serving but I think it is objectively true.
