  1. Though I am not surprised, I am saddened to here Cory basically bent over backwards and spread his legs for them. "Hey, come see how great our platform is for spying on non-Americans". Really?
  2. I second Gavins response. Try different viewers. I have had issues like this with Firestorm, switched to the LL or Singularity viewers and it worked. Go figure.
  3. I avoid enhancements these days for exactly that reason. I was bitten once, thankfully only slightly but still, never again. I cant say I have ever had any real benefit from them anyway. Maybe one or two extra sales but for the price and to deal with all this, its really not worth it IMHO. But I wanted to add my voice to the people here saying this is criminal because it really is. The Lab are well aware of this bug and have been for a long time. I hope all these people I hear this happening to get a refund. Sorry to hear about your bad (much worse than mine) experiences.
  4. I still don't see how this is a solution. What you are proposing is anyone could come along, flag an item, say “this is from the sims” and then its up to LL to go find out if that's true? Sorry, but that is very wishful thinking IMHO.

DMCA works because the creators of the ripped stuff are present in SL and have an interest in protecting their work, but most game companies probably don’t really care if someone is making a few hundred bucks from a game that they made a few million from a few years ago. Its just not important enough to them. Marvel, DC, Disney, James Cameron and many other big name companies have all filed DMCA notices with LL. They care, they just have to be notified.. which is where my idea comes in. let us flag them, and LL inform the companies. Yes I should have added the caveat that this would not be the case if the content is expected to have a recurring value. Like an Iconic character or weapon, and some companies are more on the ball with this than others. But for 99% of stuff (like the coffee mug example) that just wont happen.

  7. It also strikes me that we as creators in SL are a little bit backward when compared to the rest of the internet. Pretty much all popular technology these days is DRM free. People sell their 3D assets on a number of internet marketplaces and they have NO IDEA where that asset ends up beyond the transaction details of the sale itself. I often chuckle to myself how people on one hand paint opensim as a copybotter paradise, and then turn around and say everything looks like SL in 2008. So everyone is ripping stuff from 2008 and importing it to opensim are they? lol The reason it looks like 2008 is because most OS users are honest, and make the best they can, but would LOVE to have a legitimate place they could buy some better skins, a nice AO or some better looking trees. Nearly every industry that started with restrictive DRM has now dropped it as a bad idea. I believe that if you make content available at a good price, the people that want it will buy it. People want legit copies. They dont want to live in fear of all their stuff gound up in digital smoke if the original creator catches them. The thieves are always going to find a way to get your stuff, and you will never change them or make them go away. Your business models should work with this fact, not play into its hands.

Do these 'only Kitely' permissions white out the possibility for my customers to sell in the marketplace to other grids outside Kitely? I also read somewhere that you are going to permit download from inventory to ones own computer. How about that? Hey Madeliefste Yes, you can sell full perm allowing builders in Kitely to use your products without allowing export. In every case YOU get to choose if people can export to other grids or download. What myself and Ami have done is enabled export on some of our products for a much higher price. A price we feel is worth the risk. I also sell a mesh pack of tudor walls which were actually created by Zelest Fall of Zelection here in SL (I bought the license to resell). She was not comfortable with the export perm, so I dont sell it like that and it remains in Kitely, just as secure as if it were in SL. Bottom line, its all YOUR choice if people can export.
  9. I thought I should just drop my two cents in here as an avid opensim user. Despite what many seem to be saying here Opensim is not all about free stuff. The thing I find great about opensim is it allows the end user to choose if they want to be involved in the commercial aspect or not. Here in SL, very few people can afford a whole sim just to build in, but in opensim you can do that, but there is also the possibility for commerce, and on the many closed grids like Kitely and Inworldz, its just as secure as SL. With regard to the article by mariah at HG business, many opensim users laughed at that article too. As we all know, a flat green sim with nothing in it is no fun for long periods of time. For my part, I have been experimenting with the Kitely marketplace and have only good things to say about it. The actual MP is amazing, so much is there that the SLMP lacks, and you can be paid direct in USD. Considering I have just over a dozen items currently in my Kitely store, I have been pleasantly surprised by the amount of business I have received so far. A decent animator with good AOs or a talented clothing designer could make good money there I am sure. Plus lack of competition at the moment means you can charge a premium for your services if you are offering good quality. In SL I cant charge more than 10US for my cave kits, but in Kitely people will pay upwards of 20USD. If your a merchant that can turn their nose up at that, well, my hat is off to you. Taking a longer view, CP looks interesting but there are a number of things which dont sit well with people currently, like the floating island setup, no terraforming etc. Though what they have achieved so far is impressive. HiFi from Mr. Rosedale? Well, I am watching, but not holding my breath
  10. I agree with the general feeling that putting SL on steam was a bad idea and I am glad they dropped it, but it would be nice to see LL doing something, ANYTHING proactive to entice new users.
  11. I always had doubts we would ever see the deformer, but to have it confirmed and to loose quarl because if this new TOS is really very sad. We are starting to see more and more measurable impacts from this latest LL cluster f$^*
  12. I would say that under the new TOS, LL are now obliged to do nothing, even if you file a DCMA.
  13. Lots of people are reporting problems over on the SLU forums right now too.
  14. I remember waiting 5 days after paying before my limit increased. Just buy 10 bucks and then (eventually) they will give you a starter sell limit of 300USD per month. For sake of ease, I would recommend buying via a verified paypal account, so you can cash out right away after approval.
  15. Enhanced listings enable you to expose your products to a larger audience on the MP. They are totally optional, and you find them at the foot of the page when you set up your items. It does not relate to normal listings or in world sales at all.
  16. Hahaha Oh Linden Lab, please can I have just a crumb of the Crack your smoking?
  17. I have come across the first part of your problem. But I find just pressing "send" eventually works and the items leave the outbox. Never come across that listing issue though. Do you get any error massage at the top of the page once you click "list"?
  18. While you in theory COULD make an MMO in SL, the cost and time plus the technical challenges of the limited scripting options available in SL make it prohibitive. People have attempted to make MMO style RP systems with vairied success. Two that I can think of are Revolt and Total War. Revolt has seiges, Total War has Mobs. But nothing is as fully implimented as even an MMO with the roughest production values.
  19. You need to update your viewer. Since Server Side Baking went live, any outdated viewer will now not rez avatar textures correctly.
  20. I had the same problem and noticed a significant improvement by saving the image as a jpg instead of png
  21. I have noticed a slow down for sure, but considering the recent problems with MP, combined with the fact that this is the first real summer we have had in Europe for nearly 3 years, I am not surprised. My cave kits are holding up pretty well, but everything else is suffering. I don t have much to compare it to really, since I have only been a merchant for just over a month. I see summer as the perfect time to tinker with new unfinished products, and refine what is already in your store.
  22. haha, thanks Alicia, I have a feeling you are correct about this not going away soon. I didn't sign up to SL to be a glorified freebie vendor, and I don't see them fixing this, so now I am considering what to do next. I hope you are correct and we see an in-world shopping renaissance. merchants will have to lead the way on that though. I would definitely encourage people to consider de-listing if we don't see some speedy resolution (yeah, right.)
  23. lost two more orders this morning. One fairly big one for 3000L. One more and I will be withdrawing my products from the marketplace until I hear the issue is resolved.
  24. I have also noticed two orders from today and yesterday that I did not recieve payment for. Way to screw the pooch LL. I went on a copy-paste rampage and put a notice in my MP listings asking customers to just buy items one at a time until the issue is resolved. Hopefully that will catch a few at least.
