  1. Since July it´s possible to use fra.me to run your own applications personally btw, so you could install a viewer of your choice and use it without Bright Canopy, might be less laggy too if you´re closer to a frame server than to a Bright Canopy one. https://fra.me/product-personal Pricing isn´t really attractive though if you´d use it a lot, so there´s hope that Bright Canopy might get big enough bulk discount by them to have better pricing, and probably more convenient for people not wanting to install a viewer themselves and such. https://fra.me/pricing-personal
  2. I´ve be on through Bright Canopy/Frame a few times, just wanted to give it another try, but currently I´m 'waiting for first available instance (approx. 3 minutes)' to get in. I´m on the Dublin server since a while, which apparently has problems. First time for the first minutes I thought it might be a viable alternative but things were blurry when I moved or cammed, nothing near to my normal gaming laptop experience. I hope it will smooth out and be a success, really, but I´d only use it if they move to a monthly subsciption, anyway. still waiting to log in, well, I should be working anyway I guess
  3. Hi and thanks for this thread, nice idea. What will the maximum possible length of sound clips be in Sansar? Could you consider, in accordance to the generally cheaper land stuff, to have at least 1 free move of a region? That might benefit for example the roleplaying community, people could develop their sim in peace and then move it next or close to (an) other region(s) of the same genre (one that is supportive of the bigger picture of things, of course **Only uploaded images may be used in postings**s://secondlife.i.lithium.com/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif" border="0" alt="Smiley Wink" title="Smiley Wink" />)? And, please, don´t exclude people who need payment methods like paysafe cards or similar? Ok, this one wasn´t a legit question, but a plea, but I had to, sorry.)
  4. It´s as complicated as you want it to be actually, you can just roleplay too, well, of course all the roleplaying sims do have their own sets of rules they require you to read and stick to, ranging from 'dress according to the theme and be nice' to very complicated
  5. Hello, this very recent thread might be of interest to you for merrow hotspot tips: https://community.secondlife.com/t5/Role-Play/Since-the-closing-of-Fantasy-RP-Sim-Mystara/td-p/2939751
  6. Welcome to SL and the forum. First of all, don´t be surprised if people jump at you, when you call it 'a game' Many don't consider it a game but a virtual environment, some see second life as legit and real as first life, depending in what company you are there might be few people who agree on it being a game. It´s a vast world with many rules, and not the same rules are valid in all places, so it´s about impossible for one person to explain the 'rules of the game' to you, you´ll need to collect knowlege as you go. I´m picking up one aspect to answer. You can create your own meshes and upload them, right - but you have to pay for uploading meshes (and you need to take a multiple choice quiz before you are entitled to upload them, which is to make sure you understand copyright stuff, you´ll be prompted to go to the quiz website when you try to upload your first mesh). And you need a place to put them, if you only want to rez/rezz=set them out to look at them, you can do that in a sandbox (type sandbox into search under 'Places' tab and tp to one) but if you want a house or to have some selfmade object inside SL permanently, you need a place to put it that belongs to you, you can rent a place from LL themselves (you´d get a place with a free house and 117 prims to put into it -or- the right to buy an empty space of 512 square meters that can support up to 117 prims without having to pay additional tier for it automatically if you pay for premium membership monthly/quarterly/yearly) or you can just rent from a 'landlord' without any subscription and pay weekly/monthly (see the threads here under 'Land Forum'. Usually there will be a slurl (link to a place on some SL-sim) given, so you can teleport to the place and see if you like it. Prims or LI (Land Impact) is the term used to describe how 'heavy' your item is on the land/the sim. 512 square meters will give you 117 LI/prims to put there, a whole full region has 65,536 sqm and supports up to 15,000 LI/prims see here: https://secondlife.com/land/pricing.php). That list is for mainland, SL consists out of mainland and privately owned regions, see here: https://secondlife.com/land/privatepricing.php?lang=en-US. But you don´t have to 'own' mainland or a private region, you can rent just about any size/prim amount place from landlords who themselves pay Linden Lab. It is complicated and you´ll have to read through a whole lot of stuff if you really want to know about many aspects. edit: There is a test-grid that allows you to upload meshes to check them, before you pay L$ to upload them to 'the real SL', see here: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Preview_Grid
  7. That's a pity, the right textures combined with terraforming should be able to get something nice, but there's a great mesh beach system where you can set up beaches like with puzzle parts in just about any form you can think of. A but tricky to use with small spots, but with an entire region it's perfect. What's really nice is that you can get softly risung beaches with a much smoother walking into and out of the water than with terraforming. If you're in an every prim counts situation though maybe keep playing with landtools and patience a bit longer. I forgot the name of the mesh beach set or creator, but will turn up with MP-search. edit: this is the one I meant: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Walkable-Mesh-Beach-System/5218661
  8. You could rezz a prim, move it to where you want the sand to stop, look at the z-value (position-(height) of the prim, and take that as the maximum height for your texture 1, then play with the high-value until you get the best effct. Obviously only play with the values of the quarter of your HS where you and your prim are, NW, NE, SE or SW, and then simply copy the values to the other quarters. Also it helps a lot to use all 4 textures from the same creator, of a 'fitting series', to achieve a nicely blended look, but I´m guessing you do that anyway
  9. Mostly like an above poster suggested. It would be a really useful skill to have in any world or scenario, from this forum up to dissertations, especially if you´re going to be a politician or going to otherwise make yourself enemies who can dig it out later on, for endless RL drama fun. Someone did, and I´m sorry to say, but hot girls in bikinis have more interesting things to do than teach copypasting on Yourtube (cf. Redtube). ((Ok.)) (((You don´t want to, trust me, just like you´d trust anyone replying to posts here. You´d want to copypaste your working security cam on a mesh, so you can take it into the 'next gen SL', eventually, maybe. You want to play the lottery now, so you can afford the real world price a scripter would want from you for doing it, though they´ll quote a price so high that you'd choose to want other things rather, even if you´d win the lottery, so you won´t accept the offer, because it would just be a bogus offer to teach you something about the value of scripter´s real world time and they wouldn´t or couldn´t do it anyway.))) ((((I really like your name, Miss Teri, Bull, while not bad, wouldn´t have made an element so important to SL pop quite as much, Alan Rose on the other hand, would have been even better, but maybe too sub rosa.))))
  10. Did you type that on your phone? ((Just curious.))

    Mesh Feet

I use the male TMP body, hands and feet, and while there are some problems with the body as far as clothing and the neck is concerned the feet are no problem, at least not in the deluxe version, which I got as it´s the only one with an alpha-hud. You can change the feet size with the slider to something looking proportionate to your body size.
  12. You can try to barter for a better price, generally, some landlords will go down a bit. You can get better prices from some, if you pay 4 weeks at once (only recommendable with wellknown/longlasting/bigger landlords and of course there's a rst risk). I think you don't need a dummy place to practise, you can't really do any damage a bit of time won't repair (once you put the flattening or mountaining slider too high because you got impatient you'll know ). If you fear to click frightening buttons like abandon land or something, you can make a land group (you'll do that anyway), and have an alt in it with restricted abilities to play around with until you feel safer. Take care to always pick up no-copy objects obviously. Some ads on here or in-world with lower than regular prices are 'cheats', when you to to the LM you'll see the great looking price was only for the 1st or the 1st 4 weeks and the regular price is higher than from other landlords, which they conveniently forgot to mention in the ad, so never click buy before you read everything on-site, too! And if it's important for you to (now or maybe even in future to give trusted friends Estate Manager rights so they can e.g. ban griefers or restart the sim if needed and you're not around), ask how many EMs you'll get with your deal, that differs, I've seen as little as 2, because some landlords keep those EM slots for their staff. You can't instate EMs yourself if you rent but have to give the names you want as EMs to the landlord to do it. You appear as 'owner' on the sim land tab, but if you click further you'll see that your landlord still stands there as the true owner. Prices vary quite a bit, I've seen from 6400 to around 7500/week for homesteads, cheap sims may have badly sellable names, renaming a sim costs 20K I think, or not as good service as more expensive ones, which matters or matters not depending if you want a nice name for your sim and if you actually ever need the landlord's help beyond giving you the aeM rights and accepting your money. And of course there are some landlords with quite a bit of bad rep if you scan sl forums for it. That's for you to decide wether to take that into account or not. Personally I had a more expensive sim with the Chungs as well as a much cheaper one with some other big landlord, both without any real problems. Have fun!
  13. For futuristic architecture, take a look at Insilico: http://secondlife.com/destination/511
  14. As Frau Yardley says, group slots can fill up very quickly for people who admin at roleplay-sims, all the faster if it´s not 'only humans' but a sim where every race, sub-race, guild, counter-guild and guild-alternative etc. 'needs' their own group, I´d never have imagined I´d have a problem with 42 ! groups but I got there one day lol so I´m more aware of some people´s maximum group limit now and understand their plight but since it´s a performance problem I´m rather for people pruning their groups and leave those they don´t really need anymore than adding to bad performance of SL. If you really need to be in a group, or in 42, or 60, of course that´s another thing. And there are groups you have to pay for to join, so if people are in those of course they don´t want to leave and re-join again, even if they only need that group to buy something with group discount twice a year. Personally I don´t only not need more than 42 groups, 42 already is much more than I really want to read notices from or have to click chat away from, when it pops up, also it´s a nice number In case group numbers wouldn´t cause performance problems though, of course I´d not mind whatever maximum group number for the people who want so many, but for my tastes good performance is much more important than higher maximum group numbers than we got now. In case any Lindens read this thread for the feedback - great idea to raise group number for premium users. Now we´re waiting for a rise of avatar number capabilities, lower tier fees and cleaned up mainland, so it would be more attractive to have a big parcel there and then maybe zone parts of the land, so people who are interested in having roleplay areas or even private residential area of the same genre and 'look and feel' could have those close together for really big areas for everyone to explore and enjoy and...I digress. Good idea with the 'go premium, get 60 groups'! More good incentives for making people want to go premium, please.
  15. Maybe they should trash the eco-aspect for the start and concentrate on lorry traffic
  16. So, I got an invite and together with that 2 free hours of testing time, appearing as 1,60$ on the launching site, without you having to enter credit card details or anything, so that´s fine and I tried it out right away, on the laptop I use for SL, which runs it fine on high-ultra unless there are too many avatars about. From what the launching page said, I took that after the free trial I could add add a credit card to my account, handled by Stripe. For pre-release billing is in 15 minute increments at $0.013/minute, but if you´d log out before 15 minutes are used up, the rest are lost, due to how Bright Canopy are hosted on the back-end. I could choose between the LL viewer and firestorm, I used the latter, as I do else, too and to have a good comparison. Things loaded pretty fast, looking nice, and I could move fast, too, but unfortunately while moving or turning around, some textures get blurry and flicker, I was starting to feel sick after a few minutes lol so I logged out, might be just me though, the getting sick, but the blurriness and flickering would keep me from using it anyway probably. I´m in Europe, so I´m pretty far from their servers, that might be the reason, I read some people over here could not really use it at all, but supposedly they found out the reason and dealt with it, maybe the blurring issue is a distance problem too and might go away once they´d have servers over here, or maybe it´s just my pc. I don´t have my weaker laptop and tablet around, but will use some of my free minutes on those to see how it works there, unless I get too sick
  17. I looked it up and apparently the regular voting regulations apply to Australia, too, I might watch and vote then, Eurovision going to Australia would be fun. 'Australia will be allowed to vote in both Semi-Finals, as well as the Grand Final. No country can vote for the performer representing them, which means viewers watching in Australia will not be able to vote for Guy Sebastian. Viewers in all other 39 participating countries can vote for Guy Sebastian.' http://www.sbs.com.au/programs/eurovision/rate-and-vote/official-eurovision-voting
  18. Relatively new is relatively vague, but it´s a while I got a magic hud, so I just assume those are too old to recommend them, but some general advice: if now or in future you plan to use it on a roleplay-sim, before buying a, maybe expensive, hud better make sure by reading the sim rules, or asking an admin or mentor if nothing is specified, if the hud you´d want to buy is allowed there, some sims don´t allow such huds generally, some don´t allow specific ones.
  19. Definitely visit Insilico, it´s a roleplay sim, with a shopping area too for sci-fi-cyberpunk etc. stuff. http://secondlife.com/destination/511
  20. “We need to give the power to every user — to every person — to have [...]" I like how they realize, if just as an afterthought, that users are persons, but I dearly hope this isn´t another part of the prophecy indicating that they´ll exchange the surname 'Resident' with the surname 'Person' My thoughts...doesn´t really sound all that different from our current SL.
  21. Not from any Linden Lab direct service I think, but if you want to trust a third party seller, there´s a website offering L$ for Bitcoin. http://www.crossworldsxchange.com/buy_L$_bitcoins.htm I never tried it though, so no experience with them, but the smallest packet they offer is 1000 L$ for 5,10 US$, so if you want to use Bitcoin really much, you could try out with that small amount. There are some sites that mention L$ for Bitcoin using VirWoX which should be reliably enough, and I did use it without problems before, but as far as I see those sites want to forget, or don´t know, to mention that it just works when you first buy Bitcoin with US$, then L$ with US$, so, kind of pointless, I can´t see an option for buying with Bitcoin in their dropdown menu. [edited to correct my spelling of VirWoX lol]
  22. Ah, there´s a new post on their blog with some info on payment, so they after all consider monthly payment it seems. And Bitcoins. 'Meanwhile we will be working on providing: A monthly plan Support for more keyboards in more languages Hosting in more regions After launch, we will continue to work to bring: More Payment Options (Bitcoin, Lindens) Mobile Support (multi-touch viewer support)' [ http://www.brightcanopy.com/blog/ ]
  23. Their twitter says they started to send out the invites in batches of 25, so there have to be some people doing it.
  24. No, I´m doing my best to avoid any Eurovision Song Contest material since my early childhood, but I was curious if someone mixed up Austria and Australia, hey cmon those few leters more or less cant realy make a differnce, so I actually listened to the song while reading the comments, and they do, kind of, explain Australia in the Eurovision. And I do like that reasoning. What was more interesting than the actual explanations though were the things like 'Australia is not in Europe but it still is a European country. They follow the queen like all european countries.' And, pertaining the song itself, someone wrote that they are proud of Guy, because he wrote the song in just three days... edit: Though since I like the idea of some commenters that we should all vote for Australia, so the next Eurovision Song Contest would be staged in Australia...I´m tempted to watch and vote. Unfortunately opinions of the commenters on if the Australian song is even eligible for voting vary.
  25. I´m curious, did anyone here get the invite to the early access pre launch? Was scheduled for May 19th. The last info I read about payment was that they won´t take L$ for prelaunch but US$, so apparently the people testing it via prelaunch already have to pay, do they only give creditcard for payment option? Can you use one Bright Canopy account with the bought hours for different SL accounts?
