  2. Back to the height thing. I installed Firestorm this morning and while editing my avatar noticed that my height was suddenly listed as over 6 ft. (I think it was 6.22 ft). The height slider was still set at 54, which made my height 5.73 ft when I created my avi using the SL viewer. I went back to my SL viewer and my avi was listed as 5.71 or so with the slider still at 54. Do other people have this same discrepancy between the 2 viewers for the same avi? I so which one is the correct height? If the SL viewer height is correct, could the owner of the club that requires avis to be 5'10" be using the Firestorm height scale?
  3. Looks like it's unanimous. Thanks to you both.
  4. I've recently joined SL and have been using the "official" viewer. I'm asking for recommendations for viewer that have RLV capabilities. And even though I haven't got much time invested in learning the one I have, I would like viewers that have a similar interface, if possible, so I don't have to learn two completely different systems. My other question is about timing. Since I gather there is going to be a change in "baking" (I only have a **bleep**ue idea what that is) would it be better to just wait for that to be implemented? Any idea when that will occur? Thanks for any advice. Edit: Removed extraneous comments.
  5. Recently when I was creating my avi I was having difficulties because I was trying to keep her height at 5'7" (my RL height) and it kept changing. I finally realized it depended on what shoes she was wearing. So if your avi is just a little short of the required height for some venue just change to some shoes with thicker soles and/or higher heels.
  6. Here is a picture of my avi as she currently looks. My original avi was the STD red-headed designer one (I always wanted more red in my hair) but I feel a little more comfortable with this one. I went shopping but couldn't find the Pink Fuel Alena skin so ended up getting the LAQ one (since I now have Lindens). Now I will be checking out the hair and AO recommendations. Thanks again everyone.
  7. Mariah, Hi welcome. I'm new (just starting on my second week) and I had the same problem. You actually can change how you view your avi to front or side but it makes walking very difficult if you do. I have problems walking in a straight line as it is. When changing your avi's appearance or for capturing pictures in game then deffinitely use the camera controlls mentioned. I will be reading that help info also since right now I'm using the little camera button on the bottom of the screen to get into camera mode. Learning to use the keys instead will remove that interface from the screen for a better view. So thanks Suspiria, Amethyst and Kelli cause you helped those of us who were not brave enough to ask as well.

Unless a venue is very popular and draws people from all over the world to it 24/7, it will be empty during parts of the day and very well may seem to be a ghost town to you if you are only on SL when it is empty. The key to finding real friends in SL is not only to find people with some shared interests, but people who are logged in around the same times you are. ... Taking classes and / or joining discussion groups that actually meet in world are great alternatives to the usual places that appear in the destination guide. ... Be adventurous too. Be the first to IM someone with an interesting profile. ... Amethyst, Thanks so much for these great suggerstions. I'll be trying them out, eventually.

You can use the search term "free" or "freebie" (I would put it in quotation marks or else you'll get a lot of other items besides free items) in the Marketplace as well. Thanks. I discovered the sl marketplace a couple of days ago and it will probably be my method of choice for SL shopping. Now that I have my account funded I can buy stuff that actually costs $Ls. I'm female too so don't fit the mold either. My sister likes shopping more than I but she hasn't been back on SL. I was thinking the other day that what SL needs is a kind of match.com but for all kinds of relationships - friends, romantic interests, role playing "households", etc. I bet if someone developed that they could make some money.
  10. Thank you Marianne. I still haven't fixed my avi yet. Just got my account funded and got my Linden house last night. I will be looking into how to control the windows so she's not putting on a peep show and then I'll start making changes. Thanks again eveyone for your recommendations.
  11. Hello Moz, I'm new here (about a week) and have spent more time on the forums than in world so don't have any friends but my RL sister. We went shopping for free stuff one day, very tedious and time consuming process IMO. In RL I buy stuff off the internet cause I hate shopping. I don't know why anyone would want to spend time shopping in a virtual world. (Sorry about the rant.) Anyway I'll be your friend and would love to hang or IM with you and others who responded to your thread. Maybe we can form an informal group and pick a spot to hang when we are not busy doing other stuff.
  12. Thank you Carole, Theresa and Madeline. Much appreciated.
  13. Thank you so much for your excellent explaination that even I, a newbie, could understand.

Even if you plan to buy full-price skins later, you'll get an idea of what's available and whose style you like. They also have a store with more freebies collected at the same location. For shapes, try Penny's Vitruvian shape package or even the Standard Sizing Package as a base if you fancy experimenting with your own shapes. They're all full-perm and free so you can make back up copies. I don't buy shapes so I can't recommend the best, although I hear that Tuty's are well-regarded (they sell skins and skin-shape packages too). There's a thread full of hair stores here; most of the bigger ones get a mention in there somewhere. FWIW, I like ploom, Magika, EMO-tions, elikatira, fri.day and Truth. They all have long & medium styles in reds, and they all sell a mix of flexi, rigged mesh and sculpts. Thank you for your recommendations. I have just gotten the STD sizing pkg and will enjoy experimenting with my own shape(s). I will check out Penny's too and your hair list. I have one additional question - what is the differences (pros and cons) between flexi, rigged mesh and sculpts? Or can you point me where I can read up on this.
  15. Bree Giffen wrote: Here's an old avatar of mine. Her hair is ETD and her skin is from Mother Goose. The shape is something I made up. Are you looking for redder hair? Or more brown? Lighter or darker skin? Bigger breasts? ... Thank you. I will visit your store when I get some L$s. Your Avater is more what I had in mind than the generic one I have now. I want one a little broader/bigger but her hair, skin and breasts are about right.
  16. I am new (less than a week) and while I wait for my account to be funded I am reasearching shapes, skins and hair for my avi. Can anyone recommend a large breasted shape (but not grotesquely big), a pale skin and redish brown, long or medium length hair. Thanks
