    Hm my desktop cost more than double your budget so that wouldn’t be smart advice but I would also say that any new desktop PC should be ok as long as it has a stand-alone GPU and not only onboard graphics.

    And try to go for at least 32gb Ram but 16 should be ok too but since you want to run SL like it’s a dream … x3

    And I would say you will be able to get a pretty decent PC with this amount that is much better than a laptop in this price range.

    Congratulations on not being able to take a basic av and make it your own. You in your edgyness seem to forget that not all people want to be punky, and for real in my punky years I wouldn't have accepted a premade punk av anyways. I would have make it my own and decorate it, THAT'S what SL is all about. Creative people find a way, and make it their own. Will take some time but forced individualness out of the box, is still that. Not unique no matter how many piercings you add. So your arguments are futile. 

    We started all from Ruth and we are individuals now. SL always has provided a really small box of AVs just basic enough to play around to make it your own.

    And I just have a problem with people like you that open drawers for certain people like mom's, dad's or people living in suburbia. If that's what they want yay, if not they will do something about it. 

    Am I happy with those AVs? No. Will I use them? For sure not. Was I happy in 2006 with the red dress black puffy hair girl? Hell no. Did I let that stop me or feel devalued and pressed into something I didn't want to be? For sure not, I knew it was just the start like in ANY online game...it's like starting WOW with crappy armor but someday you will look awesome af xD

Total conformity, no Goths, no Emos, no Punks,  no tattoos, no piercings, just semi-random 3d-printed suburban moms who jog occasionally, and sometimes temp as typists, or go to court to sue their neighbour for having a nose ring.

     

    That UI is just terrible, only somebody clueless, who had NEVER really used any character editor in any game ever, would think this was "good".

     

    I’m a mom with nose ring,very pastel purple hair and a full time job and I even have secret tattoos haha so hm not all moms are semi-random conformists 👀

    I rarely do that and I wonder why people developed such an allergy to room chat. Possibly because it is often filled with gesture and animation spam and idiotic emoticons and character spam.

    But I also think that many people have the habit of talking all night in IMs. The other avatar they're having deep conversations with may not even be with them in the same sim. You wonder why they don't sit in a house and have tea, virtually.

     

    yep thats what we do. we meet for concerts, firework shows or just garden pool parties with weird fun. or we go explore dressed as hamsters and so on. its always open chat fun xD and we often even are all in the same room in RL or in skype calls haha and we still chat a lot xD maybe we just talk too much x3 

    Its fun to explore and engage together, but I only do this with RL friends nowadays since no one in SL seems to talk much anymore xD

    True. But we in the Japanese community use local quite wild and often x3 because IM sessions with 12+ people is just not fun I guess haha

    but yeah local is mostly dead when I think back to my first years where it was buzzing and people had conversations everywhere it’s like dead land now 😕
     

    and it’s not avatars that’s antisocial at the beginning everyone was free to talk all open behind their avatars in SL…the internet thing was still shiny and new to many and now people in general are more jaded, some got burned badly and many are just very cautious nowadays since we all are much more aware that it’s not safe to share too much with random strangers online xD

    Aww , well. I never made it there this year. 😭 Was busy with RL work 🧑‍⚕️🏥 ,summer ⛱️🌞 and vacation 👨‍👩‍👧‍👧✈️🧳they should make it last longer especially since this time of the year SL, traditionally, is the emptiest. 😢

    And there are things you can only do in SL.

    Like things we all did. Bible Guns, furniturezookas...but also building, playing with physics.

    Me and my best friend (he was always a frog in SL) kept fighting against eachother with nukes missile launcher in our infohub birthplace....I recently got a message that my 13 nuke are sent back to inventory...13...THIRTEEN years after we last did that xDD sweet memories ❤️

    Or you dress up as a tiny frog with one missing leg in a wheelchair and visit a paris themed sim, telling everyone who don't wants to know how dangerous of a country france is for frogs xD Ah man I miss those early days with my friends in SL haha

    Have fun, use the sandbox features of SL, meet people, the biggest mistake is seeing SL as a dating or adult game, thats maybe nice too but you miss out on all the crazyness :D don't limit yourself and SL will be fun ^ ^ maybe I should talk to people more again, this thread is a nice reminder ❤️

    But I have also to say, in case your neighbor rezzes things that are wildly offensive, causing much lag or are encroaching into your property, report it to LL they usually fix those very fast. (I would say talk to your neighbor first but it sounded like this would be futile, from your post.)

    Some people on Mainland are for some reason wildly aggressive without ever talking to you, never understood those people that are just pissed off that you are occupying parcels next to them XD I had such a neighbor too, he moved by now and it never bothered me further after I reported his temp rezzer helicopter and it was sent back by Governance x3

    To his credit, the stories get promoted enough I see them multiple times in my Google News feed (but I have "Second Life" in my "look for stories" so that probably helps).

    Animats and others gave some good deep details from the book, but to be honest, I'm just not interested in reading someone's analysis and predictions.  I'd rather "learn about it here" and just..live it. I suppose, the book and Au's writings get so much attention here because he is a) a long time journalist on SL, and b) "mainstream" (people will read it, so you hope it is "true and accurate").

     

    Yep same. Over the years there were so many would should could be articles written about SL, from people that never even used it and just lamented about hearsay stories, or just spent like 10 minutes on it, that I am just tired I guess. And like 99 percent of those articles pronounced SL dead, while it is still, 20 years on pretty much alive and kicking. Especially compared to some other certain Metaverse x3

    Yes, I know he is a pillar of our community, and is essentially a "founder" in some ways (as someone who wrote officially FOR LL).

     

    The reason I never read his blog anymore and this book for sure I won't read either. It has always been this way XD 

    A bold, objective and unfiltered view is what I love to read and I sure am not finding that at NWN ...Hamlet lost those sides of a journalist quite some while ago somewhere on the way...being busy to please everyone ... especially the people at LL.

    I don't know why but now I have to think of my favest song ...
