  1. I've worked out the difference! Those who appear to have an IQ approximating their shoe size, who have no sense of humour, or proportion, and who have difficulty comprehending the clearly expressed sentiments of others - particularly if they include polysyllabic words - and who have an equivalent difficulty in stringing together grammatically accurate sentences, champion SL blindly, generally from a position of deeply held ignorance, whereas the illuminati are quite happy to acknowledge the deficiencies of both SL and Inworldz, and the potential opportunities and benefits of participation in a multiplicity of virtual environments, and can coherently communicate their opinions without making hysterical ad hominem attacks or offering risibly inaccurate - and self-condemning - slurs about the identity of their nemeses. Awe . . . do I win something for my perspicacity - or is my prize the opprobrium of the ignorati?
  2. Don't you think Mr Elliott may have simply been demonstrating his suitability to apply for this position? Awe . . . where do you draw the line between online fantasy and reality?

Nah, you're a generation or two of computers out, but then, you probably think that One Direction were the first band to sing "One Way Or Another". Awe . . . played Colossal Cave on a DEC PDP 10 in 1976.
  4. Dillon Levenque wrote: Mr. Elliott was not, in fact, busted for trolling. He was busted for being so stupid as to actually violate a law while communicating online. FIFY! Awe . . . wonders if the BBC headline would have called him a "Death threats cartoonist" if he had drawn a picture of an anvil landing on someone's head.
  5. Pussycat Catnap wrote: the sort who pretend to have perfect spelling and grammar and act 'above' others while intigating. I love it when that happens. Awe . . . wonders how it is possible to "pretend" to have perfect spelling and grammar?
  6. Melita Magic wrote: What is the most disturbing to me is that this wasn't a kid. It was an adult posing as a kid. I wonder how often that is the case? Probably fairly often. Surely not! Awe . . . except in SL of course, where it is apparently acceptable to claim diminished responsibility because you lisp.
  7. He was prosecuted for making death threats. He could have made those death threats by writing letters, making phone calls, sending smoke signals or standing outside a zoo shouting at monkeys in cages. The fact that he did it via an online social media outlet is only of relevance because it was public. Awe . . . wonders if Dillon considers Hitler a troll?

Is it simply that it is set up by one group who is at an advantage over another? Is the advantage intentional or incidental? I have read that racism involves having power over the disparaged group in question, while prejudice behavior is relatively powerless. I am curious about pursuing conversations regarding prejudice in America and I'd like different viewpoints from people who have experienced prejudice aimed at them as well as people who have realized that they have practiced prejudice against others. I know that many people think that there is no longer racism in America - but I disagree. Overt racism is no longer expressed openly because it is unacceptable, however, there are many regions in the U.S. which still harbor more subtle forms of racism. Can you recommend an SL world to me where I might have conversations with other avatars along these subject lines? This sounds like a stealth approach to garnering information for a research project. Awe . . . discriminates against naive students who think they are smarter than they are.
  9. CAC CAC Awe . . . not answers, just comments.
  10. Women should really leave gadget management to men. Awe . . . made his own HDMI cable recently out of two paperclips, a bendy straw and a safety pin.
  11. I'm really looking forward to the real celebrations in ten days time, though, when I intend decapitating a few of my rich neighbours and burning down several few government buildings. Awe . . . is a citizen of the world.
  12. I had a couple of hot dogs, a quarter pounder and a cheeseburger, spicy potato wedges with deep-fried garlic onions and loads of mayo and relish, and rounded it off with three slices of key lime pie, washed down with some very cold Budweiser, and emailed Disneyland to see if my obesity qualified me to use an invalid vehicle when I next visit. Awe . . . wasn't celebrating Independence Day, just the first, and perhaps only day of the British Summer.
  13. Meh, you're all foreigners to me. Awe . . . channels Camus
  14. Wot, no flag picture? Awe . . . is channelling Derek.
  15. Oh, and occasionally the "thugs" drop anvils on avatars. Awe . . . in your dreams!
  16. They do breakfast. Awe . . . and whatever else Maddy tells them to.
  17. I think staging the World Cup is more important than improving social benefits. Awe . . . although the Olympics aren't.
  18. : "Of all the things you could choose to be here, why wouldn't you choose to be an @sshole?" FIFY! Awe . . . Doesn't everybody want to experience the whole spectrum of opportunities; being completely nice is soooo boring. ETA It can also get you crucified by the ignorant.

I understand what you're trying to do, but pissing me off won't help ease the pain that I feel over losing a very dear friend. Thanks anyway. @Everyone else: Thanks for your support and feedback. I appreciate it more than you know. I learned today that there is an online memorial set up for him, which makes my original thought redundant and rather useless. I also went to visit his partner... we sat and talked for a long time. It really helped me to process this and I'm feeling much better, though it still hurts. It's also reassuring that I don't have to worry about his partner's financial well being (he was also a good friend)... he seems to have things worked out. ...Dres It sounds like the more you "worry" about it, the better you are able to cope. Your concern is helping you deal with what is ultimately inevitable. I am learning all the time from the life lessons of others, and I thank you for what you have given me in that respect. Awe . . . believes in knowing about things; you can't know about those who have gone, but you can about the living.

  21. Carole Franizzi wrote: My feeling is that, if a person truly feels empathy for another’s suffering, they will never ever be capable of finding pleasure in it, for they would be getting kicks from what is now, in part, their own pain. If they are feeling pleasure over a person’s suffering, then no way in hell did they feel anything close to empathy beforehand. They might think they did, of course, but if a person is emotionally damaged, they’re not in a great position to know what normal emotional processes actually feel like. I disagree with all this. I think you are confusing the unproven concept of "mirroring" with "empathy". Awe . . . what does "emotionally damaged" mean, anyway?
  22. Carole Franizzi wrote: Does he share your emotional state? Nope again. Empathy isn't about SHARING an emotional state. Empathy isn't about CARING about another's emotional state - except to the extent that you extract a feeling of schadenfreude from it. Empathy is about being able to identify it - as you have suggested with your "recognise and label" comment. Awe . . . admits a similarity to serial killers - who ARE empathic - because he knows what others are thinking and enjoys it. ETA "Emotional detatchment" is an entirely different concept from "unempathic". ETFA Borat's actually his cousin
  23. I'm perfect . . . Awe . . . except for my immodesty.
  24. I never get thanked for doing my job. Awe . . . that's just one of the problems of being a repo man.

Awe . . . hasn't installed the European Union Expansion Font Update though, to be able to test it. Let's see.. In Windows 7 that character is already in the operating system by default. Trying to post the characters here (upper case and lower case): Ț Unicode: [u+021A] Latin Capital Letter T With Comma Below ț Unicode: [u+021B] Latin Small Letter T With Comma Below [EDIT] It works. Not illegal character. :matte-motes-big-grin: As I mentioned, the sarcmark doesn't work here. Awe . . . it's an English language forum; we don't need no stinking foreign diacriticals.
