  1. Hi Qie! I agree that Madelaine's idea is the direction I should go. Do you think I would need to graft onto the existing resize script? Or could it just be an additional script in the bracelet and charm? I already use a great resize script that I use in all my jewelry and have never had an issue with. Unfortunately it is not open-source or modifiable. Thank you for your suggestion!
  2. Thanks Nikkesa. I do believe that this idea is the way to go. I think that the current resizing script I use will be just fine, as it only uses one script as well. Thank you for your reply!
  3. Hi Madelaine, That is an excellent idea! If I understand you correctly, you are saying that I could build the bracelet with transparent sculptie prims already built into the bracelet. Then, any new charms I sell will only need to be scripted to that they communicate the UUID of the sculp map to one of the transparent sculpted prims that are already on the bracelet. It sounds like this would also cut down on any of the lag issue that was mentioned above. Currently all of my jewelry creations are sculpted, and I already use a great resizing script. It requires that I use only one script in the root prim of the jewelry and it resizes all attached prims or sculpts. So I shouldn't have any issues with resizing (or at least I haven't before). Thank you for your reply, you have been a great help!
  4. Hi Steph, Thanks for your reply. The lag issue was a concern of mine. Would it cause more lag than a breedable or other highly scripted object? I new it would cause some lag, but I honestly didn't think it would be worse than some of the other highly popular products in SL. Thanks for your help
  5. Hello everyone! I am in need of a very specific script, and im not sure if it is possible or how complicated it will be to make. I have very little scripting experience and this is far from my ability, but I just need to know if it is possible. I create jewelry and I have envisioned a line of charm bracelets and charms. I would like a script that can go into the actual bracelets that will allow you to attach or remove different charms. Here is how I vision it, but it can be altered or tweaked depending on the ability of LSL. THE BRACELET *While wearing the empty charm bracelet, clicking the bracelet will bring up a menu with the following options: "Attach Charm", "Detach Charm" "Resize". Each option would either bring up a submenu (resizing) or perform the action. *To attach a charm, the user would need to first rez the charm on the ground. Then click the bracelet and choose "Attach Charm" from the menu. Then when prompted, click on the charm to attach. The charm will then attach to the bracelet in one of the empty spots. *To detach a charm, the user will click the bracelet and choose "detach charm" from the menu. Then when prompted. click the charm to detach. The charm should then appear back into the users inventory (preferably), or drop on the ground. *The resize option is pretty self explanatory, as it would resize the bracelet. I don't think the charms will need to resize, but I am not sure yet. *Each bracelet will have a max amount of charms that can be attached at specified attaching points. I haven't designed the bracelets yet, but I'm thinking a max of 6 or 7 charms per bracelet. THE CHARMS *The charms would just need a script that would allow them to attach to the bracelet appropriately at one of the empty attaching points. So is this idea possible? I wanted to know if it was possible before I spent too much time creating the bracelets and charms. You can contact me in world. 6. Hello Curious, That is an excellent question, and I probably should have mentioned this in my original post. I can not speak for the other theaters or cinemas in SecondLife, but in my case the appropriate permissions and usage rights have been acquired. As long as the public showing is not for profit and admission is not charged, getting the permissions to show a movie is fairly easy and inexpensive. Netflix and Hulu pay large sums for the rights to films because they charge a subscription fee and are a for-profit company. For a non-profit public event, you only need to pay a single flat fee for a limited license. In my case, I first write a short letter of intention to the Motion Picture Association. I'm not sure if they even read it or require it, but I do it anyways. Then I call the Motion Picture Licensing Corporation and let them know that I am planning a public performance of a movie, the audience size, location, and weather or not it is for profit. They then will tell you how much the fee is for the public performance license. You pay the fee, and they will give you a permit # and also fax, email, or mail you a license. In the case for tonight's show, I have a permit to show "OZ - The Great And Powerful" for a total of 7 times, to an audience no more than 100. I have found that most people in SecondLife are not concerned about weather or not someone has gone through these steps to show a movie, especially if it is a free event. But every now and then someone will want to get all legally responsible, and that is admirable I guess. Anyhow, to keep from having to repeat myself, I will upload the permit as an image for display in the theater lobby. Hope to see a good turnout tonight!
  7. Tonight at 5pm is the grand opening of the Century City Cinema. The movie "OZ - The Great And Powerful" will be showing, starting at 5pm SLT. Admission is free. There will be raffles and prizes. Bring your friends or a date. Across the street is the Century City Hotel with rooms that can be rented by the hour or the day, for those of you who want to make a full evening with your date ;) Hope to see ya there!! http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Glaisher/159/222/53
  8. Very interesting you should bring this up. I am very confused about the log-in procedure for the forums and secondlife.com. Most of the time, I need to log-in separately. Even if I am logged in to secondlife.com, I still need to log-in to the forums. But sometimes, about 40% of the time, when I go to the forums and click "sign in", it then automatically logs me in without needing to put in any credentials.
  9. Position filled. Thanks for all the great applications.
  10. THIS LAND HAS BEEN SOLD! It has now been developed into "Whispering Lake" community. Feel free to check it out. Rentals available!
  11. Welcome to SL! Innula did an excellent job at answering your questions, but I thought I would just add a couple things. You may purchase mainland parcels or private sims/estates from Linden Labs. You will need a premium account to do this. I paid $75 US for my annual subscription. You will also need to pay a monthly maintenance fee based on the amount of land you own. Like property tax. Or you may "rent" land from an individual or company. In this case, you do not need a premium account but will need to pay rent weekly. Most rented land will allow you full control of your parcel with a few exceptions such as terraforming or editing the land. Also each company or individual has their own rules and agreements. Each company or individual is different. You will need to find an adult rated sim to put an adult nightclub on. Should be easy to find! As far as the demo clothes you are trying to put on. It sounds like you are wearing the box, not the actual clothing item. I did this CONSTANTLY when I first joined SL! Most items you buy in-world come in a neat little box or wrapper. Pull that box from your inventory onto the ground (make sure you are in an area that allows you to rez items on the ground), right-click it and select "open". Then click the button that says copy to inventory. You will then be able to find the items in your inventory and wear the clothing. If you try to rez something and get a message that says you can't, then obviously you are in an area that does not allow it. Sometimes after you do this, it may not be in your inventory any more. Don't panic, you just need to log out, and log in again to reset your inventory. Second Life has a bit of a learning curve for new users. It is so customizable that it can take a while to learn how everything works. It took me a couple weeks to learn everything. Especially wearing clothes and editing your appearance. If you ever need more help, feel free to contact me in-world and I will help you the best I can. There are many helpful people in SL. You can look me up in-world by using the search feature and looking up Donivan2009. See ya in-world

  13. Thanks for you suggestions and advice Trinity! And also the encouragement. We won't be reading a whole book in one week! That would be pushing it a bit, lol! Instead, we will decide on the amount of pages or chapters (depending on the length of each chapter) in which we will read during the week. Then, at the weekly meeting, we will discuss and review what we have read. This will encourage open discussion and group involvement! Also, the group will be fairly small. This will allow the opportunity for us to work more closely with each other, and help each other make sure we all have access to the books we want to read. I don't want anyone left out simply because the book we have chosen isn't available to them. If we have to, we will simply choose another book. This is the advantage of having a smaller club. Also, I thought we could have out-loud reading during some of the meetings. I have voice capabilities, so I will be able to read out loud to the group. This will also help out those who don't have access to the selected book, or have to wait for the book to become available at their local library. Although there are no requirements to join the book club, it will be very helpful if you have a good library available to you. For those who have E-readers, we may be able to use my personal library account with the Nashville Public Library to check out digital books for those who are having difficulties. The books are automatically returned at the end of each rental term so I wont need to worry about anyone abusing my account. My local library also has thousands of good books available as digital copies! Anyways, the possibilities are endless, and there is a solution to every obstacle. But like I said, all decisions will be discussed and decided on as a group!
  14. Hi Madeline, thanks for your reply. You brought up a good point, and I was thinking about this all day. The group is going to be very group oriented and all decision will be made as a group. I was looking at books today and I found a few public domain and free books. Also, we would try and find books that will be readily available at local libraries. But the books we choose to read will be decided on together. If you are interested, IM me in-world and I can send you a group invite! Let me know if you have any more questions!
  15. Hello Everyone! I find that there are so many things to do in Second Life, but I wanted to do something a little different. I am creating a book club for anyone interested in reading. The club will not be affiliated with any business or store, although we may meet at local coffee houses or library's. I would like to meet weekly, on a day we can decide on as a group. If you like to read, all sorts of genres and are of a mature age, then you are welcome to join. We will decide on a book to read as a group, and decide a length of time in which to read it. We will then meet weekly to discuss the chapters or sections that were assigned to read during the past week. But keep in mind, this is not a school or job, so if you aren't able to complete the assigned reading during the week, its no big deal, but not reading the book week after week would defeat the purpose of being in the club.. We can also read together as a group. The details will be ironed out, once we get a group together. It will be a great opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. Please only serious and respectful people need join. IM me if you are interested and I can send you a group invite! Thanks, Dorian Stormwalker.
  16. SORRY BOOK CLUB IS CLOSED! THIS FORUM IS NO LONGER BEING MONITORED!
