  1. Websites earn more money by having more members and if they have message boards, they earn more money by getting more posts. I have seen boards allow spam topics, ie. "Post here to Increase your post count" or "Everybody say FRAZZLE" to the point where good members stop posting or quit the site. They would rather have spam topics destroy their boards than have intelligent members write imaginative topics that generate interest, replies and membership. Why? because there are more stupid people, you can always post more mindless spam than intelligent content and bigger numbers equate to more income. Also for most sites you can ban members or delete them: deleted members are removed from the site completely whereas banned members are of course banned but remain members. I have never seen a site besides my own, which deletes members. Again it is done this way for the same old reason. So far I have not been overly impressed by these SL boards which is why you do not see me here often, I try to avoid them, so none of the posts in this topic surprise me.
  2. Hi, welcome to SL. It takes time to find the right things to build your avatar with so take your time and try a lot of demos. When you visit stores inworld, many offer free gifts and some of them are free skins and shapes. Most of them are worth much less than they cost but we have found a couple of good skins from lesser known stores. When you visit a store inworld, check out its smaller neighbours. When you find a usable skin, you can use it with the basic avatar shapes you have and this eliminates the basic avatar "corset style underwear." You can actually build a good avatar this way and it will serve you until you find the avatar or components you want to purchase. Even when you buy a good shape and skin you will have to upgrade various parts particularly the feet if you plan to go barefoot. Sadly I have yet to find an avatar which includes the lower parts. It is always distressing to change clothes and notice a body part missing, I am still not used to that. Females have it a bit better there, even if a male buys a **bleep**, you have to hide it or it will show over your clothes so when you change it is hidden and you still are missing a body part. Note to Linden Labs: Proper anatomical nomenclature is not a **bleep**. Please grow up and treat your members as mature individuals to encourage them to act in a similar manner.
  3. The same thing happened to me. We are supposed to be able to edit our reviews but I was unable to find a way to do it so I likewise deleted the review to replace it with an updated version and was greeted with the same notice. Like the other person replying (helpfully), I left a positive review with four stars and a recommendation that members try the product. I had intended to add something which may have helped it get better search results: only a fool would remove such a review. I was also the only person thusfar to actually write a review for that product. If you check http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Merchants/Beware-New-Review-MP-bug/m-p/1980379/highlight/true#M33960 it appears to be a recent problem plaguing a number of us. This Topic also mentions how to report this problem so we may see it fixed sometime.
  4. Evidently I was not thorough enough, the only difference between the two accounts is the browser. Much of the SL experience does indeed require a browser and although I have only been a member for a day or so, I have found at least one area I want to visit which cannot be accessed without a browser for the initial visit. Further, I do have a work-around for this problem but it is an inconvenience. I started this topic not because I cannot find a way around the problem but because support told me they had not heard of this problem with anyone else. I had thought that if anyone else was experiencing a similar problem, this information could help find a cause and hopefully a solution. In reply to a couple of posts, the second computer does not meet the requirements to load SL and if it did somehow manage to let you, it would not be a fun experience. Both accounts on this computer are using the standard SL viewer. Thank you to everyone who took the time to read the original post and offered support.
  5. I had been viewing SL with another member of my household and decided to join yesterday. Since the other person uses Safari, I decided to use Firefox to help distiguish the two accounts. Unfortunately, this caused me problems from the moment I tried to enter inworld. I spent all last night in live chat with support. When I tried to view my new house Firefox started opening new tabs that were blank. In the couple of seconds it took to stop this, 728 tabs had been opened. Any time I try to enter inworld, this happens. The other member here uses Safari with no problems. We use an iMac i5; it is two years old but just had a new hard drive installed last week so it is fresh and clean. Support had me try going into my Applications Folder and launching SL from there. This works but first you forget that you have to complicate the process when you want to launch and second, it is going to complicate getting anywhere you find on the website. Such as, you are shopping and want to check out some land or a shop, since I have been rebuilding the history on both browsers (force quitting erased the memory on Safari too) I have not had a chance to try this yet but I do not expect it to be seemless. We cannot use the second computer as it is too old to handle SL but both accounts have been set to allow multiple viewers. That is about as thorough as I can be, is anyone else having a similar problem with Firefox, or any other browser?
