Just tried the below solution and it worked! Try it. You will find this option under Preferences, Graphics... "Go into our Preference , Graphic and unclick the basic shadower. That fixed mine"

I too am seeking an answer to this flickering problem, plus other annoyances. Dolphin Viewer has the same problem. Am using an Acer Aspire laptop with Windows 8 touch screen. On a positive note, when the flashing stops, the water effects are great (splashes, waves, etc.)--perhaps even a little better than Windows 7. Will continue to look for more updated driver information.

I really love Second Life and wish there were some way to access it directly from my iPad. Second best is what I have been doing: access my desktop via Splashtop and entering SL that way. Not so easy to maneuver, but the only way I know of. Flash-capable apps never work for me, unless someone knows of an Apple app that can access Second Life?
