  1. I use Vista Animation's "The Boss". The Marketplace only lists the extended edition: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/VISTA-ANIMATIONS-THE-BOSS-EXTENDED-EDITION/2999652 but there's a basic edition available in-world for about half the price. I used to use their "Business Man" AO but after a while I grew tired of how wooden the standing poses appeared.
  2. You might find something you like from Creative Decay's offerings: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/stores/104124. I've only given it an admittedly cursory look... Good luck with your search!
  3. You might try Joyus Living in Caledon, http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Caledon%20Victoria%20City/213/220/23. She only has a handful of items in the MP; far more extensive selection in-world. Good luck in your search!
  4. I've purchased a lot of mesh clothing from hoorenbeek... pieces such as a shirt may have several different meshes depending upon how the clothing will be layered... a shirt might be worn on its own, or layered under a jacket or blazer, and combined with high- or low-rise pants. There are also 3 different sizes (S, M & L)... it makes for a lot of options for a single garment, and undoubtedly adds to the expense. The net effect, though, is a good one.
  5. I like the men's clothing from [hoorenbeek], https://marketplace.secondlife.com/stores/49237
  6. Have you considered switching to a different viewer, such as Firestorm? It might be an improvement in efficiency and support for your video hardware.
  7. See this thread: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Lifestyles-and-Relationships/Premium-Account-and-Partner-setting-quot-Home-quot-location/td-p/1746607
  8. The 'SL Avatar' folder should be copied to your Runtime/libraries/Character folder, the 'SL Clothing' folder should be copied to your Runtime/libraries/Props folder, and the 'avatar_mesh' folder should be copied to your Runtime/Geometries folder. The avatars will then appear under 'SL Avatar' in the Characters group. Good luck!
  9. There is a useful set of alpha masks available for free in the Marketplace: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Avatar-Alpha-Overlays-101311-update/2312783 You'll need to do some trial-and-error to find the one that works best, but it may help a lot with shoes for which there is no supplied alpha mask. Good luck!
  10. Have you looked at Robin "Sojourner" Wood's tutorials and in-world resources? I think I recall something in her "Clothing 101" book that addressed necklines. Her web tutorials for SL are at http://www.robinwood.com/Catalog/Technical/SL-Tuts/SLTutSet.html. Good luck!
  11. I like this one from Vista: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/VISTA-ANIMATIONS-BUSINESS-MAN-AO/298451.
  12. Do you have Photoshop CS6 Extended? I can't open OBJ files in the regular version of CS6, but my old copy of CS3 Extended opens them just fine.
  13. The Hosoi Cluster Welcome Package, which costs a single Linden, contains a male and a female kimono. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Japan%20Chubu/57/244/24 The Harusaki Onsen spa is a lovely place to visit while you're there.
  14. I'm using a Lenovo W520 which works well in Ultra mode. It also works very nicely with Adobe Creative Suite CS6. Lenovo's web price for the W530 (the successor model) is £1250, but you may be able to find a W520 within your price range (though near the top, admittedly). Good luck!
