  1. EvaFord wrote: This is a discussion Forum. This is a good place to address TOS and honesty in business practices in SL. This is the issue I want to address. I have proof this is an ALT, but I would never post it unless TOS allowed it for Public figures asking for $L. I am asking if TOS should cover Public figures asking for $L. And my point is that the fact that it is impossible really for readers on a forum to verify truth of such things is exactly WHY such public naming and shaming is not allowed in most places. It is very easy to make an error and destroy someones business even though your own intention was good. Then there are those folks who woud do it to deliberatly destroy someones business to eliminate competition or for some other more personal reason.
  2. I honestly have no idea if it is ok or not to post this warning in your profile I personally would guess not simply because it is the safer choice. Where I am getting stuck on this whole thing is that I do not see any proof at all that this person is running both avatars. ALl I see is the you claim this person is doing this and that he claims he isn't. A forum is really a bad place to ask people to make judgement calls like this. The readers only see part of the story and usually the truth is somehwere in between the stories of the 2 parties involved. On no forum I have ever been on has this sort of post ended well.
  3. I am new to Secondlife so I maybe don't have any grand stories to share. I owuld like to share one small thing that I have discovered for myself in the few days I have been here. In real life I am painfully almost debilitatingly shy. In Second Life I am finding that I can talk to people without that almost panic moment. That is no small things for someone like me.
  4. Have you tried copying tthe weights of each piece seperately rather than all at once? Once copied I would think You could tweak the weights by weight painting on all pieces at once but if the issue is just getting the initial copy done maybe one at a time would work better.
  5. I am new too and so far have met lots of very cool people some of which are fast becoming friends. What I did was simple. I didn't focus on making friends. I dove into SL and started exploring things. I went to locations that fit my interests and explored and talked to folks there. Many figured out pretty quickly that I am really new and started showing me other really neat places with more cool people. It sort of snowballed from there. Because I started with places I had found that went with my interests most of the folks I ran into had at least something in common with me so we had a place to start the conversation. Then I discovered classes and since I am interested in making things for SL I went to many. I am slowly collecting another bunch of people who's focus is on that from among my classmates and even some of the instructors. Many of the places I enjoy the most have groups you can join which gives you he opportunity to chat with other folks with similar interests. Some of those eventually become friends. Like real life you can't force the making of friends. Instead you collect them as you go about your daily journey through life.
  6. It is also possible the particular sim you are trying to log into is down. You could try logging in to a different sim and see if that fixes it. I am sure one of these fine folks can explain exactly how to do this. I am at work and do not have the option of booting up my SL browser to check.
  7. I just joined SL a few days ago. At the suggestion of a relative I also joined SLU. So far I am just lurking there and getting a feeling for the place. My observation so far is that if you want to avoid contention there are certain subfora to avoid. Politics and Religion being a biggie. Both are charged topic and can devolve into ugliness fast no matter WHERE they are discussed. The content creation forum there however is marvelous. From what I have been told it isn't at all unnusual to find a novice question answered by some of the top notch talent in SL.. That is the sort of help that is priceless to a newbie like myself that wants to start making things. I have not yet had the chance to spend much time on hte content creation forums here but I suspect they also have good information.. As for people I see several folks on this forum(even this thread) that post over at SLU. So lumping all the folks over there into one basket is probably a bad idea. Pick and choose who's words you wish to read and let ignore handle the truly offensive is my motto. There is a great deal of truth to the idea that every Forum on the internet has its own characteristics. It is up to the user to find forums that meet thier needs in those characteristics.
  8. I am considering going premium to own a bit of land but I want to be sure I get the right kind of land. I find the explainations of land ratings about as clear as mud and need clarification. What I want to do is start working on making clothing which means I am going to be spending a fair bit of time nakie or partially nakie while working on something so I need to be sure that whatever I buy this is not going to get me in trouble. I understand that on Adult land this is no problem I just am hoping one of the less restricted ratings would work since eventually I will likely stick a shop on it and I want the shop avaiable for folks who do not have the Adult rating in their search.
  9. I had a similar problem when I tried to install a few days ago. It turns out that I needed to update my video drivers. As soon as I did that the program installed and ran beautifully. It could be something like this. It is lso possible that your machine doesn't meet the minimum specks in some other way.
  10. Let me add to what these others have said. IF there is any chance you downloaded some sort of questionable code. THen there are some things you need to do immediately. Log in to your account on the SL website from a computer you KNOW is completely clean of malware (not the one you think you messed up on) and change your password. While there change passwords on everything you have passwords on. Get a good anti malware program and anti virus program and follow thier instructions to try and cleanup your own machine. There are decent free ones out there. Never never NEVER install ANYTHING that does not come from a source you know well and trust.
  11. If the Rainbows thing is what I think it is there could be a couple of things going on here. Both most likely onh your computers end.On the occasions that I have seen this behavior (in other games) it had to do with my graphics card or my graphics drivers. Step one update your graphics drivers it is possible something got corrupted in them. Step 2 test this in SL and play with your graphics settings in world some. If that doesn't fix it you might well have a failing video board. I have had this issue go both ways for me in the past.
  12. I am new to SL and quite honestly I don't find the jerks and frauds to be that daunting. That said I do live by a few simple rules that I have learned over the years in online games. 1. Be very careful what RL information you give ANYONE. It is surprising how much someone can find out about your real life from a few passing remarks. Although you trust the person you told they might mention the information in passing to someone else who mentions it to someone else and before you know it it hits the hands of someone untrustworth. 2. Don't sweat small stuff. If you bought something for 5L and it isn't what you expected well its a small loss if the maker won't make good on it then just chalk it up to a bad choice and don't deal with the maker again. 3. Get recommendations from people you trust on the big stuff. Going ot make a 1000L + investment in something? Talk to folks find out who they like for that product and most important WHY they like them. This doesn't eliminate getting a bad deal but it does cut down the odds. 4. ALWAYS try the demos. Especially true with mesh where fitting is a big deal. If the demo can't be made to fit find another vendor. 5. When dealing with a merchant. Be polite, describe your problem carefully and completely, and never EVER lose your temper. So far these 5 simple things have worked out well for me over the years.
  13. TY 16 and Hugsy Sounds like a fun thing to do I will have to give it a try.
