  1. Great! Thanks Abigail, I'll try these sugestions. Cougo
  2. I was wondering why there are so many sites that list profiles and info but no way to go there. There are the "copy name" and "copy URL" buttons usually. How do you use the URL? I am just mising the point of having a site that no one can access. So obviously there must be a way to enter the URL somewhere and proceed. Can someone explain this to me? MUCH thanks in advance. Cougo
  3. I have heard about this possibility and read various posts about running "alts" but in seach I could not find any reference to HOW TO get one going. Also would ot have to show my log-in name under the display name? I would like to have two separate identities with radically different avatars for different sims I frequent. Much Thanks-Cougo
  4. Hi. I'd sure like to try it but aren't those items usually "no transfrer" type deals? If it is transferrable I'd really like to try it out. Thanks- Cougo
  5. OK thanks guys and girls. I forgot to click the subscription box and was waiting for a reply, but here I am. I ALWAYS acknowlege helpfull forum members. OK that makes sense about mesh error as I have had trouble with hair lately. Thanks again my helpful friends.- Cougo
  6. I have been going to a sim that involves very fast run and shoot actions and I have been plagued with lag and jerky movement, crashes and my avi freezing and drifting out into space. The other players seem to not have so much problem and I am being annihilated and sometimes I can't even shoot back. Can someone PLEASE recommend a viewer, and settings etc. that might help with this? I'd really appreciate it ! BTW I have a new HP Desktop with a Dual core 2.8 Ghz CPU, 4G RAM and a Radeon HD 6670 and am on a cable connection that tests at 15Mbs. Cougo
  7. Thanks Cerise that is exactly what happened. The store advertised "free" skins and when I looked at my guy, he had "demo" written alll over him. I was willing to overlook that. But not the Bozo flippers. Thanks, I'll look for "shapes" and if you don't hear back , then your answer did the trick ! - Cougo
  8. Hi everyone.{ I an at square 0 as far as avatars and skins so please dumb down any responses :) } I had an awful avi and I was ashamed to be seen in public , so I tried another "skin" (which I don't fully understand the definition). Anyway after changing skins my guy got these huge out of proportion, fat feet that look really ridiculous. So I tried going back to the original skin and the feet remain laughably large. I don't know what to do now and def. am not going out like this unless there is a clown sim somewhere. I remember somehow once being helped with editing the size of his head but for the life of me I can't dind that edit option now. Any help would be tremendously appreciated since I can't use SL at this point. Thanks- "Cougo".
  9. i'm no expert but that card is rated "35" on passmark. I have a Radeon HD 6670 ($42) and it is rated at something like 1200 on passmark and still my fps drop too low sometimes, with a slightly better system than yours. Cougo
  10. Hi. I am not a real "gamer" but recently I have been going to a sim that has fast action battles using various weapons in an elaborate 3-D environment. I have been using the keyboard (a,w,d,s,e,c,m, plus the mouse to fire with), to control my avi. I do OK but I notice some players are faster than I and yesterday I learned (on an unrelated site) that there is such a thing as a "game pad" which is designed for this purpose. Will much be gained by purchasing one of these and using it in place of the keyboard controls? Are there other control devices I should know about? Where can I get advice on improving my game? Thanks Lots, Cougo
  11. For comparison you can go to http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_list.php and see how any card tests in their system. The 5450 has a rating of 311 points. I got a 6670 on sale for $49 (after rebate) that is rated at 1146, nearly 4X as better than the 5450. I actually bought the 5450 first but couldn't get it to work and returned it. Then I saw an article on Tom's Hardware . Com about best mid-range gaming Graphics card for the money and at the time (MAY 2012 ?) it was the 6670. You should read some of the more recent "best for the money" type articles at Tom's and then choose. - Cougo
  12. Thanks for the explanation. Now I understand what is going on. As a result I am keeping the lag meter thing on the side of my screen, just barely visible and I do see the botton one for server or whatever turning yellow and red for some seconds at a time as well as the second one down. Also I discovered that the password to my router was disseminated to a neighbor who was hogging my bandwidth !!! It was down to 500 KB !!! So I plugged directly into modem and now 25 Mbs. I was fooling around with an AO HUD and some other stuff and I guess I'll strip it down to basic. I thought of clearing the cache. Would that help or hurt the situation. As I recall I appropriated a huge chunk of memory for the cache during set-up. Thanks-Cougo
  13. I'll check it out, thanks. Although I have a similar exp[erience with Firestorm.-Cougo
  14. I'm going nuts because I have a brand new HP Desktop (Intel Pent.G640 dual-core 2.8Ghz) with a Radeon HD 6670 Graphics card (1G,DDR3) and even in the lowest possible setting (Preferences/Graphics) in an area already cached, I walk forward a few steps and then jump back or freeze etc. I used to have no problem.Frame rates are consistently above 30 and ofter much higher (120). I tested the system with Nova Bench and MS Performance thing (WIndows 7 )and everything tests fine. But I can barely play anymore. And forget about playing intense chase, hunt type interaction; I get slaughtered. I'm not a tech person but I grasp the basics,so if anybody has any ideas, I'd be greatly appreciative! Thaks! Cougo. Oh, system has 4G RAM which is never used beyond 60% or so and CPU about the same. Thx. C
  15. A new driver was released in July 2012 for the 5XXX and 6XXX series. See if that fixes the problem. I have the Radeon HD 6670 (1GB DDR3) and it works pretty well even in the intense games with multiple avis. I didn't, however, try to use it before the new driver so I can't say that it addressed your problem. I am using a desktop also with a Pent. G640 dual 2.8 and 4GB RAM. Cougo
