  1. I can imagine SL as mental therapy, but wouldn't necessarilly think of it as pain therapy. I can understand that doing something fun like this takes your mind off of other things...in fact, if I'm playing on SL all day, I'll forget to eat... I agree about the double edged sword. As we've seen many times in these posts, SL can take cause mental anguish and feelings of depression or pain. Think that if you use SL for any kind of therapy, it should probably be done in a controlled enviornment to avoid things like that. Imagine a guy who just lost a loved one going to SL, starting a relationship and having it break off (for example) It is an interesting experiment and will have to check out those videos soon.
  2. I don't need some huge mansion for a home. Most of the time, for me, it's usually 2 or 3 people in the house. I like a couple bedrooms...furnished, so I don't have to think about what to put in there. In fact, I have one HUGE empty room in my house that I can't figure out what to do with..partly because I'm too cheap to buy anything for it. I recently asked for my house to be expanded...added a huge 3rd bedroom (which I gave to one of my girls) and a maid's quarters with a number of beds. It looks great..but I still have that damn empty room...:matte-motes-sunglasses-1: Don't know if that answers your question, though....

On the other hand, while I don't know how unique this may or may not have been, my early experience and original circle of friends in SL were what I'll refer to as 'real lifers.' If you were accepted into the group a lot of RL info was shared. Phone Numbers. "If SL goes down you can call me." The other IM services they used such as Yahoo or MSN messenger. Very open but it was also very easy to get ostracized if you didn't behave. My first year or so was primarily involved with this group. Perhaps mine was a very unique experience but my impression at that time was it was not uncommon. I don't really think it's that unusual. A friend of mine had a Mistress on here that would domme her often through Yahoo Messenger. I have (and visa versa) the email addresses of a few of my slaves..one of my maids wants to Skype with me, so I understand. Some people are very willing to give out personal information...more so than having their picture on the 1st Life Tab. Sorry for the insult, dude..Just pokin' fun at ya!!
  4. Perrie Juran wrote: I will say that I do check RL tabs. Mostly curiosity. But I don't keep my RL completely separated from my SL. One time a particular girls picture got my attention. I knew I'd seen it before. So I did a little searching and yep, it was a picture of a professional model. So at one time I started doing searches on some of the RL pictures I was seeing. My anecdotal conclusion was this: The 'prettier' the picture or the more bare flesh there was, the greater the odds it was "stolen," that is, it was a picture of someone else. Sorry Perrie, but DUH!! :matte-motes-sunglasses-1: This is SL...you can anyone or anything you want...and apparently, even on the 1st Life Tab

In the end this was the result after some two hours: Total of 234 spherical prims! :smileysurprised: I noticed that it was not very comfortable to sit on. :smileyfrustrated: :smileylol: Gee...you would have thought two hours would have yielded MORE material...that's pretty skimpy for that much time... :matte-motes-sunglasses-1:

Put something in there people!!! I agree....you should have SOMETHING in your profile. Mine sounds incredibly stupid, but it gives people some idea of who I am and what I'm doing here. As for first life pics..as I said before, it's a personal preference. I don't have one in there because I choose not to. But I do have some information in the tab and a really nice picture of a mountain view for the photo. People like to look at profiles..so at least give them something to see..
  7. On your Second Life tab...just take a really nice, flattering picture of yourself and place it there. I think people are more likely to talk to you if you have a picture on your profile. Now..as for 1st life tab...I personally have a beautiful picture of a mountain view from Vermont, my favorite vacation spot. I don't want to put my RL pic on that tab..partly because I'm a very bad person in SL..:matte-motes-sunglasses-1:, but that being said, I commend anyone who decides to do that. It's all personal preference..as many people here have said. It's not required to put ANYTHING on any of your tabs. Do what you feel comfortable with..that's it
  8. Hello..and welcome to the wonderful world of Second Life... I can understand how it is a bit more difficult for someone who isn't as outgoing to make friends in SL, but this gives you a chance to try different things that you would never think of doing in RL. Find someone you'd like to be friends with..read their profile...see if something interests you..then just say hello. Don't know if anyone mentioned this or not, but there are a ton of groups in SL. Go into the Search function and type in what interests you...Art, Music, Movies, Adult stuff :matte-motes-sunglasses-1:...whatever it is, there is probably a group in there. Once you're there..contact the moderator or owner and talk to them. They could have events that they hold..or go into the group chat for the group. If anyone's there, it's a great way to strike up a conversation. Unfortunately, I can't really help with questions 2-6, but I do hope that at least gets you on the right path. Good luck
  9. I think what you need to do is move the box from your inventory on to the ground in a place that lets you unpack things (like a sandbox). Once it's out, right click and select OPEN. Another box should show up with the contents. Choose MOVE TO INVENTORY and the items will be in there. Then you can right click back on the box and either take it or delete it. Hope that helps..and hope I didn't just embarrass myself by giving bad advice...:matte-motes-sunglasses-1:
  10. As with everything else, it depends on what you want...friends? fun? business connections? Would suggest using groups to find likeminded people and events to see what's happening inworld. Good luck
  11. OW!!! MY EYES!! MY EYES!!!! Seriously, now I'm gonna have nightmares for a week...thanks a lot
  12. OK...how would one give out a calling card? I wouldn't even know where to find mine.
  13. That is one of the neat things about the forums, I think...it gives you the opportunity to meet and get the opinions of so many other people. There are always times that people post looking for friends and someone says "IM me in world". I say I'm going to do that, but other things tend to occupy my time when I get in.
  14. That is one of the reasons why I decided to open my house for others. I always have some kind of home in sl - and mostly I do not use all the rooms and all the prims. I often only spend an hour a day inworld - often even less. So why not let other people who cannot afford a home use my home in all the time it would be empty anyway.... It is actually fun to see who drops by or who makes themselves at home. I have not had a bad experience yet. And if someone did decide to rezz a bunch of crap there - with a few mouse clicks it would all be returned. No harm done. *********************************************************************************************************************************************** And I commend you for that. I think that's great. There are so many people out there who don't want people coming by their home..putting up security orbs and making it private land, that it's nice to see someone open their house to others.
  15. Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but I'm going to anyway. The previous thread talked about multiple calling cards in inventory. My question is..why do we have them at all? What are they for? I know that you get them when you friend someone, but I have old ones in there from people I never see anymore. Do I need them...would it mess up my friends list if I just went and deleted all of them? Thanks for your help...
  16. I hope we ALL have a good sense of humor about this.. Mine...when I wear them..are leopard skin boxers. Only the highest quality polyester will do...:matte-motes-sunglasses-1:
  17. EXCELLENT!!! Thank you for supporting the cause....
  18. Bravo!! That is something you don't see very often..someone having a home but letting anyone who needs a place stay there. Here's my issue; having to work in SL (not having a premium membership or wanting to buy Lindens) to pay rent is WAY too much like RL. And as I said earlier, if my friend wasn't nice enough to charge me VERY little rent I wouldn't have my house at all. Something to think about when asking this question.

    Hat hair?

Your best bet is to find hats that you wear in different places...like chin or nose. That way, you can pick whatever hair you want and the hat will fit right over it. I have that with my cowboy hat.
  20. Well...in my case, I was a wanderer for many years (have been on since 2009). I just recently got a home from a friend of mine because my sub asked for one..:matte-motes-big-grin: Before that, I lived on various sims under other friends. They either had extra land and offered me a place or I joined their family. My home is a skybox and I rent it from my friend for a VERY reasonable price in exchange for myself or members of my family working at a club located on the ground. It is not a prerequisite for me to work to have the home, though. I live with a number of girls (my subs and maids). If you really want more information than that, either check my profile or send me an IM inworld. None of the girls pay any kind of rent for staying there..but they are subs, so they have other responsibilities in lieu of rent. :matte-motes-big-grin: I don't think you HAVE to own a home in SL, in fact if my girl hadn't wanted one and my friend hadn't offered it, I still wouldn't have it. It doesn't make me stay in SL, but my family has increased tremendously because of it and it gives me a place to be with them. I hope that gives you more insight or helps you figure out what you want to know.
  21. How about checking out some of the groups..find an interest and see if anyone out there shares it. Everyone feels like a newbie now and again in SL, especially when you're wanting to try something new. Just get out there...there's someone for everybody. Good Luck
  22. that can make you a very popular girl....8-)
  23. i dont have a premium membership either Tex .. id prolly leave too if LL imposed a user fee while keeping their current business model in place .. what i want to see is for everyone to pay a user fee in exchange for the abandonment of tier, rent & the L$ .. everyone pays the same & everyone has equal access to anyplace they want to go .. no more pretending to "own land" in exchange for money .. i dont know if you pay tier or rent or not but if you do youre subsidizing all of us who play for free .. so when i call for everyone paying a user fee it is to the advantage of those who do pay tier or rent & to the disadvantage of ppl like me .. & perhaps like you if you play entirely for free .. but i think it would be well worth the modest fee (~$15 - $20 per month) to end class distinctions & limitations on mobility w/in SL .. i recognize that it would mean that some ppl left the game but those ppl dont pay anything anyway & i think that other ppl would be attracted by a more egalitarian inworld society Jeanne Still respectfully disagree, Jeanne. If I had to pay at ALL to play SL, I would leave..which would be sad since I really enjoy the game. There are so many other RP style games that charge you to play (I think WoW is one of them). I hate to say it, but even $15-20 is too much. I do rent a house from a friend, but the rent is SO inexpensive that it's worth it to stay. For a long time, I had no house and I was fine. I respect your opinion, but I still think you'd lose a ton of people if you charged anything to play
  24. Just like in RL, if a merchant is arrogant, rude, obnoxious or stupid...I go buy from someone else.
