  1. Well, tried it and the detection range of that security device ends above 200m.
Good for aircrafts, unusable for ground effect vehicles.
And it can change everyday, so this is not a reliable solution.
It's worse in Herkja, where two devices are battling it out.
Below 200m you get a 5 sec warning, above 200m, you get the boot immediately.

So we can consider Rollo & Herkja as permanently closed.

  2. Ok, especially for you:
From the last financial report I have seen, about 10% of the sales volume is profit.
And the main revenue stream for the Lab is land tier.

In other words: Reduce tier by a significant amount and the Lab goes full into red.
And you don't want that, as it would kill SL rather fast.

If you want to pay less, check out the offers at the big landbarons, e.g. the Anshe Chung empire.
There you can have a homestead without setup fees and without the need to get a full estate first.

And then there is still the mainland...

  3. Put the parcels you want to rent out into a Group.
    Make the Group Invite only.
Set the Options in the About Land Dialogue as follows:

    Build:Group.
    Scripts: Group.
    Object Entry: Group.
    Fly: Everyone.
    Autoreturn: 1 Minute.

If someone rents from you, you send out an invite, the tenant then joins the group
and can start building. If you have to kick out a recalcitrant tenant, just remove the resident from the group.
Remember to create different group roles, in these roles you can fine tune, what a tenant/officer/guest can do.

  4. Yes, the quick buy.
But then there is the convenience factor. Plus, there are fees involved with practically all payment systems.
With Eldexchange, the best rate was possible with bank transfer, as that incurred no fees on the receiving
end of the payment and bank transfers are free on my bank account.

I estimate the quick buy rate is the current LindeX quick buy rate plus the LindeX fee,
plus payments system fee, plus reseller's costs.

Just looked in the quick buy at VirWox, paying with Paysafecard yields L$179,-- for US$1,--
With a credit card you get L$215,-- per US$1,-- (based on a U$100,-- buy).

This shows how much influence the payment systems fees have on the exchange rate.

Signing up allows the Reseller to include you in its limit buy pool, giving you a better rate.

@TDD123: Ähemm. Alicia is talking about US$, not Euro.

  5. Next week? Now I'm a bit excited - And well prepared: Firefox 4.4.0 / SL-Viewer 3.5.3

But to be frank, anyone complaining now should better shut up and update.
It has been announced and discussed long enough here on the forums and elsewhere.

This is quite different compared to the TPE-disaster, where the Lab created a megafail in terms
of communication. Unlike loosing vital payment options, this is easily fixable.

I'm looking to buy a speed boat any suggestion ?

    BERDAVmarine
, no question, no competition. They are on MP but, much more important, they have a shop next to Blake Sea where you can demo the boats.

Absolutely. Atleast if you have enough pedal power: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/BERDAVmarine-Pedalo/1768334

    That's the only boat listed.

/me checks out the inworld location later.

  7. Regarding Issue 3, there had been isolated cases of cards not properly recognised by the viewer,
but the viewer has a commandline switch to bypass the hardware detection, which mostly works.
Usually these kind of issues are solved with the next viewer update. If that happens to you, remember to file a JIRA.
Then there is the pink screen issue, that is usually solved by updating the graphics driver to the
latest version available directly from manufacturers website. Don't rely on Windows Update for this,
I had a current driver overwritten by Windows Update with a two year old one, that was also defective,
so off to the manufacturers website you go, or in some cases, directly to the GPU-makers website.

  8. Caution!

The GTX 660M is quite weak and cannot be compared with the desktop version.
This is true for all mobile variants of similar named desktop graphics cards.
In case of the GTX 660-series, http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_list.php says this:

    GTX 660 Desktop:     4106 points
GTX 660 Ti Desktop: 4680 points
    GTX 660M Mobile:     1455 points.

In other words: the mobile variant has 1/3 of the performance of the Ti- desktop version.
My desktop GTX 650 has 1824 points and gets seriously bogged down in dense environments.

@SLtesterL2: This of course begs another question: Do you REALLY need portability.
A desktop delivering the same performance can be purchased for less than half the price
and can be individually upgraded later.
Regarding main memory: 6GB is an odd number of memory modules, forcing the memory controller
into single channel mode, which reduces memory performance by up to 30%.
8GB is an even number of modules, allowing for full dual channel operation.
Plus with the crappy memory management of Windows in general, more memory is better in every case.
I say, 8GB is the minimum for Windows7/8.

  9. Unless the cats come with a setting for an elevated position setting / ground level setting, you have to keep the critters
on true ground level. E.g. the Meeroos have such an setting and live happily in a skybox. If the maker of your cats
didn't thought of that, you have to keep them on ground level.
Sometimes the actual height above ground is automatically set, when rezzing the critters on a platform/skybox,
sometimes it is set through the feed bowl. So taking them back into the inventory and rezzing them back out in a skybox
    could solve the problem.

However - before trying out the rerezzing, consult the manual on how to do it properly.
You might want to consult the support of the seller/developer of your cats as well.

  10. Just for fun I tried to fly using my Nessie through that corridor at the northern edge of Rollo and I had no problems.
If there is a security orb, it seems that the owner has reconfigured it.
I suggest to stay as close to the northern edge (fake mountain wall) and go through quickly in a straight line
to not disturb the tenants of the island there.

Herkja however is a different ball game, the security orb there kicks out anything on ground level. In 5 seconds.
If you need to go down to Arnthrud, there is a small gap at the North-Eastern corner of Holmfrid to squeeze through.
Stay between the first red marker and the fake mountain (Which is phantom), then turn immediately East into Arnthrud.

Btw. there is a 10min. rez-zone at the northern border of Orvieto, it is marked with a white buoy.

Andrea Curtis wrote: "but Linden Labs (presumably) has reserved a narrow corridor along the southern boundary of Starstrider"
It is. It is marked with red buoys and is owned by Governor Linden (Maintenance). Going further west, it is possible
to follow the coast around down to Lusiana & Milio. Since some of the Linden provided waterways are quite narrow,
use the Minimap (with Property Lines enabled in Firestorm 4.4 and Dolphin) to navigate.

  11. AnnMarie Otoole wrote: "Did you check the land settings, it is NO-ENTRY.  It is impossible for vehicles to enter."

It isn't. And we have discussed that fact before. Your scourgemobiles have a certain behaviour:
When going over a region border, these vehicles move rapidly from left to right and back. Shooting itself into No-Entry parcels.
The No-Entry function as well as ban lines are too slow to block objects, that have been shot at high speed into a parcel.
This effect is used by griefer devices to enter No-Entry parcels.
Solution: Prevent your scourgemobiles from doing that.
Oh, by the way, the land owner is not responsible. Clean up your act.

And since you are so proud of your programming skills, here is another trophy:

    schrott.jpg

The scripts are so crappy, these things don't even manage to get out of their rez-station.
