  1. Hi, I started getting into making hair. By the time I'm done putting all the strands in the right place and what not, I am not always sure how to proceed from there for weighing. I know how to weigh the hair, but the problem is, should I do it in sections, or should I mark my materials and then join it all together? When it is all one object, sometimes its hard to paint it just right because when I do the brush will affect the other side of the hair and I keep needing to make adjustments. But when the strands are in their own sections, its even harder to keep the weights 'flowing' together correctly. I have tried both ways and each way it pretty frustrating. Is there an easier way to weight paint? Maybe a way to paint more than 1 object at once (so I dont have to join them but they still get a flowing effect and if im having problems i can just deselect that piece or something)? Or is there a way to at least paint without the brush affecting the other side of the hair (but not just the front faces, because i need to pant all the way though each strand)? I am using Blender and Avastar.

  3. Thanks Gaia! I wasnt sure if 1.0 supported the fitted mesh or not. currently I am using the test version of 1.1, and I figured out how to get the new bones to show up after watching one of your tutorials. I read the link you gave me, it says that there is a glitch with the sliders. I am not sure what exactly the glitch is... although the weights of the stomach and love handles are a little weird (i think that can be fixed with manual weight painting though, right?) but the major problem for me is i cant figure out how to get the fitted mesh to stretch with the breast size slider (unless that is the glitch?).
  4. Hi guys, I looked all over the forum (maybe not enough) to try to find which version of avastar I need to use for the fitted mesh. I tried both 1-0 and 1-1, and I do not see the new bones in either of those (in the vertex groups). Which version do I download, or what do I need to do to see these new bones for fitted mesh? I also downloaded other versions of Blender, but that didn't seem to help the situation. Sorry if this question is already answered somewhere, I wasn't able to find an answer. Thanks.

I cant find a script for exactly what I am looking for on the marketplace... so I guess I have to ask for a scripter to write it for me :) I need a script that changes a FACE texture only (not the whole object) after every 1-2 seconds. This is for blinking lights on a cute christmas kitty ears headband I made. the texture size is 1:1 and no offsets. the face must be able to have glow and transparency allowed also, even when the texture changes (so I dont want glow and transparency to reset or anything). main thing is - I want the script to have the textures UUID's in it, not have to put the textures in the object, which is what I find a bunch of script requiring.   9. I am wondering if there is a script that can only be ran when it is attached, but not when it is rezzed on the ground. I know there is 'OnRez' which works both ways (attached or on ground) but I am wondering if there is anything that works for just when attached?
  10. that is really odd. I dont have any sort of problem like this. are you saying that you are clicking the actual folder icon and dragging it into the contents of the box? I usually shift+click or ctrl+click to select the items i want then drag them that way. I never need to make a new folder just for the boxed items.
  11. thanks for the replys. I dont sell any no-copy items (except for my gift cards which do not use a script to open), so permissions arent the issue. I feel as if I should return back to the good-old-reliable rezz and right click to open method, but I have gotten numerous suggestions to put in a click to open script because its so convienent. Thing is though, I had previously had a script that ended up doing the same thing. Since I had complaints about not all items being recieved, I took the script out of the bags and set it to right click to open. Things seemed to have been going fine with that, no complaints as I could recall. Then I kept getting suggestions for script to open the bag. So I tried out a new script, thinking maybe the problem wouldnt occur again. Only to awake to a bad review left on my market because a person cant figure out how to get all the items out of the bag and commenting "waste of money". -sigh- I cant seem to make everyone happy lol. edit: if anyone would be nice enough to write a new script that would put floating text above the bag ONLY when attached to the avatar (if possible) that says something along the lines of "Rezz me to open."   12. Every now and then I will get a report of somesort from a person that didnt get all of their items in their bag from my store. I use an unbagging script in my bag, but I don't know if the cause of this type of error is the script not sending all of the items, (meaning that if they just tried again or better yet put the bag on the ground and right clicked to open to successfully get all of the items), or lag, or if it must be some sort of SL bug where it really is not all there in the bag? I have tried numerous times opening my own bags from the script and have successfully recieved every item each time. Would anyone have any sort of explaination for this? Thanks.
  13. sassy contacted me in world and gave me some very helpful tips. turns out i had too many verts lol. so I remade it with less verts and it isnt blocky. just need to rework the weight paints on the new one but so far everything seems to be looking better. thanks again sassy
  14. I did tranfsering weights (from the SL skirt). do you mean when attaching to a parent, chose auto weights instead of transferring?. I originally did it without modifiers also. Its still blocky either way.
  15. hope this helps. ive tried subsurf and smooth modifiers in blender, ive tried generating normals when uploading. countless times of editing weight paints. nothing changes the blockyness. http://i44.tinypic.com/krhjp.png (right is SL, left is blender, both have the right leg moved forward and left leg moved backward)
  16. thanks for the responses guys. I finally got it to rig right. Ive literally been messing with this thing for a few days, and have remade it a couple times lol. So now im having another problem though. I dont know if its the verticies or the way its subdivided, but when I upload it into SL it looks kinda bumpy.. its not very smooth. in blender it looks smooth and it bends smooth, but in SL it haves a sharp crease in the center, and overall its bumpy looking. any idea what I am doing wrong here? I have my LOD on high, and i used the highest LOD for medium as well, and then set low and lowest to 0. it is set to smooth in blender, not flat.
  17. yea i dont know the lingo too well lol. by linked i mean ctrl+p and "with automatic weights." Im not sure what you mean by using the weights from the skirt. I mean, if its attached to the skeleton, or armature, then how would I get the weights from the sl skirt? I didnt mess with the weight paints because i thought that it moved ok enough, at least for a first try and see how it looked in SL anyways. and heres a picture of it in blender ... not sure it will be much help though. http://tinypic.com/r/16gao02/5 http://tinypic.com/r/w8qh5s/5 im not sure what other kind of pictures to provide. I put the graph texture on it to try and line the image scaling up right so i can just use the same texture from the actual layer skirt.

I would rather learn how to make these kinds of things myself than to depend on others, even if its just for small things like this. So I opened the avatar.blend into my program (using 2.62) and made the prim, linked it to the skeleton, have it in the appropriate position. i fool around with the pose of the skeleton legs and it all is in tact, the prim moves as it should in the program. but once I upload it to SL, its all jumbled up inside my avatars stomach and partially poking out her hip, its not even in the right place. it looks a mess. I have played with LOD options, and subdivisions, moving it lower to see if it unjumbles any, but nothing works. It does seem like the rigg might be in the correct spot though, because it moves with my avatars body movement/legs.What am I doing wrong? I would rather learn how to make these kinds of things myself than to depend on others, even if its just for small things like this.   21. So .. me and my hubby have been getting into furry avis xD I am having a really hard time finding things that fit his avatar well. Im looking for hairs mainly. I dont know of any good male hair stores that he can go look around in. Any store suggestions would be nice. Preferrably either un-rigged mesh or prim hair that looks updated? well you know, not old looking lol. Also im looking for maybe like some sort of hood and skinny mesh clothes as well (probably black colored, not necessarily goth but something dark looking). any suggestions would be appreciated! thanks

  23. thanks for all the answers guys. Actually I seem to have figured out the problem. My husband changed the router over the weekend and then changed it back again to the one we were using before. It has never given me problems in SL before but the firewall was blocking some connection with SL. Turning the firewall off fixed the problem. So I suppose I will have to set a custom port with SL network preferences and the router.
  24. It does happen in other regions. I have tried logging in at my linden home, my rented home on a homestead, and also at my stores sim. sometimes things load in quickly, and like i said most times they take over 10 minutes to load. changing outfits also is very slow on these other sims as well. I dont wear very many scripts.
