I THINK (think being the key word still lmao) that the new viewer fixed my problem. I have been on around an hour and have not crashed once and my browser is still working perfectly. In that time I have travelled all over...from store to store with no problems so far. Hopefully it keeps on this way. TY again for all the help!

I installed Phoenix and so far so good. I havent been on very long to fully test if I will crash or not but I have noticed my avatar loads almost instantly and stores etc are loading much faster. There is still a little lag (to be expected) and some slower load times in certain areas but even all that seems to be better/smoother. Lets hope that was the simple fix I needed. Time will tell for sure but I def like this viewer a lot better so far so TY for the suggestion and for all the help as well.

IDK what exactly that JIRA thing means but I did see that earlier when I was googling possible solutions to my problem. I've still come up empty handed so far but will try DLing the viewer you mentioned and see if that helps. I've done everything else I can think of, even checked to see if it was something as simple and dumb as needing to "run as administrator". I also read that to run SL on Vista (which I have on this comp) you need your drivers up to date and my NVIDIA control panel is telling me my graphics drivers and the works are up to date. Ive manually tried to update drivers for all my computer's devices through the control panel as well and they all say they are up to date. *shrug* GeForce 8800 GTX GeForce 9300/nForce 730i is what all I have I guess and I have 4 gigs of RAM. Since I recently crashed again and re-booted I will go try to DL that other viewer now and see how that works out. I'll post back later with whether or not it is any better. EDIT to add: How do I set my draw distance to 32? I see it in advanced but my slider will only let me go as low as 64 and I have the graphics setting at the lowest quality setting.

I have done what all I can figure out and I have no idea what is causing this problem. I have 4gigs of RAM and IDK if it matters or not but there isnt much installed on my comp....not many start up programs running or anything in the background that should take away from performance. I checked all of that as well as drivers. All my devices are saying their drivers are up to date (checked my NVIDIA stuff etc and it is showing no avail updates). I ran a windows performance test thing on my comp (not exactly sure what that does or means exactly since Im not tech saavy) and it rated my comp a 5.7 out of 5.8 (highest score) in performance. I know SL and all other games are not created equal but I do run other games just fine on high graphics settings with no crashing or lag. I have played SL before so I know about lag/slow object load times/particle effects etc etc etc and I expect all that. I never crashed before like this and never ever had my browser screw up and crash. Could it be something to do with the new viewer? Is there something I need to do to make it run more compatibly with my comp or my browser (firefox)?

Need more help if someone knows an answer to this problem... Ever since I DLd the SL viewer today I have been having problems with both SL and my internet browser. SL will repeatedly crash and when it does (and sometimes when it doesnt) my whole web browser will crash for lack of a better term. I will open the internet and have a blank page. I cant open any web pages, not even google. Nada, zilch, nothing. Then SL wont let me log back in. I literally have to restart my computer to get anything working again. That is a total pain in the rump. >.< Does anyone know what is going on and what is causing this "instability"? It only just started when I DLd the viewer. Prior to that I had no problems at all. (And I am running (for the few mins it runs) SL on the lowest graphics setting etc if that matters.) P.S. When my out of game browser stops working, so does my ability to search in game for places, people, etc. Or the SL one happens first.

I used to play this game many many many years ago. Back when there were no usernames and each character had a first and a last name that they logged in with. I just decided to re-DL the game today and give it a look over out of boredom and Im finding it VERY different (not that I remember a whole lot from my previous time of playing but I know the UI etc is all different). I made a new account today for the sake of just poking around and trying to get my bearings but I'd really like to log on my old account. I just have no idea how to do so with the new viewer. It is only giving me the option to put in a username and password. My old account didnt have that...it had a first and last name and a password. How do I log on to my old account with the new viewer thing? Is it impossible? My character was loaded with clothes, shoes, lindens, and the works. I'd really hate to think I cant access any of that anymore. :(
