  1. I usually log in at about 6pm SL.  I check in with my Partner, collect my hug and USUALLY we end up at the club we work at, with the exception of Date Night. Both of us DJ/Host there and our social circle kind of orbits the place.

Saturdays we visit Drama Libre and go looking around the grid or visit with friends.

I work 3rd Shift in RL (fewer people to deal with and I only have Myself telling me what to do) so when I get home in the mornings I very often log on to build or shop or visit with friends from the Eurozone.

Now that my children are grown and gone, SL and trips to the Gym (my physical rehab following a stroke *accidentally* turned into a healthy lifestyle...I treadmill a LOT) make up a lot of my social interaction outside of work - and I like it that way :-)

I hang out a lot at my SL job (the Factory), Drama Libre, Velvet Thorn (where I also sometimes work), the Blarney Stone, the Blue Note (before it semi-retired) and Club Retro ('cause that's MY generation - I still have legwarmers in my storage space).

I also do a lot of Photography in Hazardous, Everwinter, Baja Norte, Failure to Thrive and the lovely Santa Maria dell'isola Italy

Oh..I also still roleplay a little bit in places like Asphyxiation Point

Yeah, 'Unlawful Orders', when you joined the US Military, you probably swore an oath to uphold a document, not protect the people, or the country, but a document. As for attacking civilians etc., shall we sidetrack to the Iraq War here or start a new thread,

    Well, two things in response to this;

The Oath of Enlistment mentions; "to protect and defend the constitution of the United States". That document (like any other idealized framework) represents an Ideal standard of behavior wherein Rule of Law is respected, their individual freedoms are respected and they have defenders who will protect those ideals "to the death".

But like Most Idealized frameworks; the Ideals themselves are noble - it's people who muck them up. I have no issue swearing loyalty to the ideals in that particular document . It's a case of Perfect Intentions sometimes being mishandled by Imperfect People.

My second point goes back to my original post; My responsibiiity was to be accountable for what happened on my Watch. I can't take global responsibility for national policy or the actions of people outside my scope of awareness - but I -can- (and did) take responsibility for things that do happen within my awareness. So, I did and somehow managed to keep getting promoted.

i -have- seen what happens when that goes astray; about half my time in service was spent outside the US before 911 and my specific job was "investigating mass graves from other people's  civil wars". I'm very familiar with what humans can do to each other when they choose not to subscribe to any ideals higher than the Law of Fang and Claw. That's when Rape Rooms and Mass Graves become possible. From the Balkans to Africa; those things happened during the period I was assigned to "go find out who", and being sent out on that little road-show is one of the big reasons I choose to spend my time in Second Life. You never quite see people the same way after that.

When I crack wise about needing the Brain Bleach for myself; I am NOT kidding. You can't unsee the aftermath of that; all you can do is try to gather the evidence needed to hopefully find whomever did this and bring them to the Book.

I would probably sleep better if Inhad followed my parents plan for my life, but at 18 I was sure that I knew it all......

I think I'll go back on my self-imposed vacation from Heavy/Serious stuff again now :-) SL is my vacation from Myself, and Myself has too many issues that don't need waking up :-)

Let's draw a line under that and move on, modern military training is designed to turn harmless civilians into people who will kill complete strangers on command without needing a reason at all. Based on 50 years of psychological research and experiments in Pavlovian conditioning etc., the training is very effective, the military's official estimates for successfully turning civilian recruits into obedient killers with these programs is over 90%.

Y'know, when I was 18 I decided to really annoy my parents.  I completely skipped out on their "program" for my life (college/family/slow insanity) and enlisted in the US Military.

Embedded EVERYWHERE in my training was the direction that I was not compelled to follow any Unlawful Order.  Unlawful Orders being defined as "heinous crimes against humanity, attacking helpless civilians....." the kind of stuff you'd never want your military to do unless you WANT an evil military.  I was very clear that if I ever decided to follow an order to do something evil; it as on ME and "I was just following orders" was no defense. That's not Hollywood; that was real-life.

The military also gave me a high expectation for my personal conduct and that of those who reported to me. It STRONGLY embedded the concept that my DUTY was to question authority under certain circumstances.

Does that always work; No.  That's because there will always be some asshat or weak-willed person who decides to use the chaos of conflict to do something evil, and then try to rationalize it by claiming they were "just following orders".

But that's not how I was trained.

  4. June 14th 2012 - “The Bourne Identity,” featuring famous Mini chase scene, is released...

In one of the most memorable scenes in the film “The Bourne Identity,” released on this day in 2002, the amnesiac assassin Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) drives a vintage Austin Mini Cooper through the traffic-heavy streets of Paris to evade his police and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) pursuers.

Hi I was wondering how long should I wait for clothes that I bought in the marketplace to come to my received folder because I have history that I bought it, it just hasn't shown up.

Sometimes I have had to relog for stuff to populate in my Received Items.

Once, its like I was blocked for a few days and NOTHING showed up, so I went on vacation in RL and when I came back - all the stuff I was looking for was there PLUS things that had sporadically not been delivered for a couple of years back..... It was like a little Inventory Time Capsule....

Some of that stuff had me like...."I'll never drink while browsing the Marketplace again"........

Keep in mind that people  have to be able to read your name.

My heroine! I get SO frustrated when I'm working at the club and I WANT to greet a guest properly - but their name is "Cutsie-Illegible".  So I *try* and occasionally they get miffed when I get their illegible name wrong.....  in  my defense, I really thought that guys name was P33N1z......

Of course the whole consent thing in RL can get sketchy when girls consent to things out of fear they will lose the jerk, and never find any other guy who will love them, and he has put that idea in her head to start with by abuseing her.

Its an issue for sure!  It took me a while to learn that I needed to have enough respect for myself, NOT to accommodate the immature just to earn their approval.  I got divorced shortly after that :-)

A recent post in the forums got me to thinking about this. The post was looking for people who were pro-ana, or people who think anorexia is an acceptable lifestyle choice. The responses to that post were swift and unanimous in condemning the pro-ana mindset as being dangerous. This however got me to thinking, there are lots of things in real life which people do that are dangerous, and which we try to oppose in real life, but which seem to be perfectly acceptable lifestyle choices in SL. What determines what activity we think is to far for role play in SL, and what unacceptable real life activity is OK. For example the marketplace is full of devices for torturing your partner, plus tattoos to simulate the cuts and bruises that result from such torture. I however have never heard anyone state that doing this glorifies spousal abuse, something which most of us I am sure would disapprove of if it was going on in our real lives. Why is it unacceptable to starve yourself, but perfectly ok to take a bull whip to your wife's back? I ask this question to myself as well, because I was one of the one's disapproving of the pro-ana thread, yet if my SL husband wanted to whip me I would let him. If my RL husband tries it I am calling 911. There are lots of things we do that are dangerous in RL which seem acceptable in SL because it is safe here, but do we by doing them glorify these things? Prostitution, drug use, casual sex, even smoking, all are examples and this is just the start. So where do we draw the line between acceptable role play fun, and what is unacceptable?

Talli, I'll tell you the Funny part first.....

My eyes get tired and when I first saw that thread this morning (after working all night), I thought it was Pro-ana(l).  I've been in Sl a while, so I was thinking; "How is that unusual for SL?"

    giphy.gif

I may be a little virtually jaded......

On anything that deals with sexuality, it all seems to wheel around Consent.  Flogging your lover = Bad *if* they didn't want it, but if they *asked* you to then "its a consensual affair and sort-of OK"

    Where that gets sticky (no pun intended) is in three specific situations;

(1)..The person giving Consent was actually not of the legal age of consent and legally unable to do so.

(2)..The person giving Consent was not mentally capable of actually giving Consent.

(3)..The person giving Consent changed their mind and lied about ever giving Consent in the first place to others who were outside of the Dominant-Submissive relationship.

So IMO its good to confine that kind of Playtime to people one knows well and with whom there is a clear understanding of Consent (and when it can be withdrawn).

Self-Abuse - including self-starvation, is hard to address unless the person doing it is blatantly not mentally quipped to be making their own decisions.  I have been known in the past to have Conversations with friends who were pushing risky-behavior to lengths that worried me; but I'm strange and believe that being someone's Friend means being willing to make sure they're Ok even when the conversation is uncomfortable.....

So anyway I'm at one of those snooty "fashion event" places.  I just saw these pants...

    for men:

Xer, I'm thinking that when I see male avatars whose Package is set to "100" and whose cranium is about half-size related to their over-blown digital muscles; those pants would look perfect on them :-)

At least they'd be wearing pants.  I get really tired of guys "flagpole-ing" at events......

Followed 27 years later by Breitbart and the (re)birth of News-as-Propaganda.

    ;-).

I kinda think CNN/Fox/Brietbart/MSNBC fall under the mantra; "Different (talking) head - same snake"

When news becomes entertainment or agenda-driven and there is a financial incentive to maintain turmoil, it becomes more about "telling a story" than "reporting events".
