    Yes, I did!

It's great that you've enlisted Roxy's help: she takes terrific pics, as you've undoubtedly seen scanning this thread.

I think these pics, as they stand, are lovely. You've actually chosen a really difficult subject: framing a pic with two avatars (and so, two points of focus), in action, and against a pretty complicated background is for sure going to be a challenge, but you've captured the scene very nicely.

I guess the question is . . . what kind of pics do you want to take? You could, for instance, and assuming your computer is up to it, add more sense of depth to these by employing some degree of depth of field, and shadows in Advanced Lighting Mode either from "natural" (*snort*) sources and local lights, or attached lights and projectors? But that may be something you're not interested in doing? Sometimes you want the scene to be relatively flat, for instance, if you're trying to catch a sort of cartoon/comic book feel.

You could also play with Windlight a bit to get some more interesting lighting effects, although I'm by no means an authority on that myself: I make pretty limited use of that.

In the final analysis, though, these are really great, and you should be very pleased with them! They are fun, and imaginative, and nicely shot! So yay you!!

(BTW, I hope you know what you're doing: Roxy is about a millisecond from taking your head off with that katana. And if that happens, it'll take forever to fix the neck seam again!)

    Thank you :)

And as to your question, I honestly have no idea yet what kind of pictures I want to take. I mean, I've always been the type of person that, once I start analyzing things too much and complicating them, I stop seeing the value of why I am doing and enjoying it. So I like to look at things in a simple way.

With that said, of course, I also accept the inner child in me and when I see a new "toy" to play with, I simply "play" and have fun, trying new things. especially when it comes to things graphics and computer related. So I did play a bit with the windlight, on these pictures, using Fairie Blue as the setting, and then adjusting the slider until i felt i had a good enough light to highlight the scene without taking out the background entirely, but just enough to make it look important.

It took me over a week to plan this, finding the right poses, the right setting, and then finding the right spot in the setting, the outfit, the effects. It's like working on a puzzle until all the pieces fit in nicely. I never really knew how much effort and planning went into these so I have a much better appreciation now of everyone's pictures (not to say i didn't appreciate them before, as i did very much so lol) because of that experience. If anything, it made me love them even more than before :)

I also want to explore this a bit further, as I explained to Roxy after I was done, i thought about maybe using the picture to create a "comic book page" feel to it, or even edit things a bit to create a "comic book" type cover in a photo editing tool. I'm undecided on that yet though lol

All I really want to do is continue to be inspired by everyone here, and then show my appreciation by sharing the pictures I am inspired to create from the effort everyone puts into their, and just have fun at the same time making them :)

  2. I wanted to try something fun for my second attempt, so I asked my friend Roxy Couturier to help me out. She gracefully accepted ! Some of the pictures turned out much better than I expected. I ended up taking 6 shots, and at first, debated only sharing the better ones, but after some thought, I figured I'd share all 6, and get opinions on them all. I tried to go after several angles, some turned out well and some not so well. but the picture of Roxy turned out rather well.. i just love those eyes :)

Anyway, I hope you all enjoy these as much as i did taking them :)

(I'll post them all in separate post later, since I can only upload so many pictures at one time)

Have I ever mentioned here how much I love the name Kate?

And anyone even remotely associated with that name? And also, Roxy's refined and sophisticated taste in friends?

    🙂

This morning I stopped taking pictures in-world in disgust because it seemed to me one of those days when pretty much everything I touched turned to dross and muck. So, these very kind words are doubly appreciated. So, thank you very much. You've made my day much nicer than it was.

aww i am sorry to hear you were having one of those days, but i am happy that i could make even a tiny difference to make just a little better :)

and ty as well for the wonderful compliment. i am curious though, why so much love with the name "Kate", if i may ask ?

    Scylla,

i've loved your style since my friend Roxy Couturier showed me this thread over a month ago, but this... this goes beyond selfie photography.. this is art ! and not the type of art that one just looks at and goes "wow this is amazing"... this is the type that is appreciated and admired as something more than amazing. and yes, i've been looking at it for more than 20 minutes admiring it.. and i simply want to say "thank you".

    :)

Eh, why not. I'll post here.

Here is my signature I use on many other forums, but cannot use here as it's too big (it changes on the 10s and 15s marks):

Here is a picture I spread around to help out other small avatars like myself (I'm an Adult lombax {Ratchet & Clank series of games} avatar I made myself, lombaxes are not big. I'm up to maybe mid hip on a regular adult male human in SL)

OMG you're instantly on my awesome list !!

as a female gamer, Ratchet & Clank is one of my favorite games ever, i have the entire series from PS2 to PS4 (including the remakes lol), so when i saw this picture, i found myself yelling out loud "Lombax!!!"

thank you for making my morning :)

now i have to go back and replay the games 😜

Ah, if only Photoshop could help with that (outside of image editing itself). Overindulged at Christmas? Clone out that post-prandial pudge! Getting older? Blur away those wrinkles! (Mind you, might want to practice first, otherwise you might end up looking like this xD)

Curves is a way of fine-tuning certain levels of RGB - their depth and strength - in an image. I tend to use it either to discover interesting tint effects, or for lightening or darkening images since it gives me more control over that than the simple contrast etc tools do. Couple of quick example videos (I'm just using the existing points on the curve, but you can click to add more):

Before and after of that second image:

    curves_before_after.thumb.jpg.113e3e976135f24ddede41d9ebd4f831.jpg

    I'm monopolising the thread with image-editing stuff again, aren't I? :/

/me slinks off and lets the pretty people keep being pretty.

rarely do i meet someone else who uses curves and understands them well enough to know how to. this is brilliantly applied, well done :)

i love the clone tool, but at what zoom % do you use it ? i always use it between 400 and 800 % personally. i find catching the pixels directly, while time consuming, well worth the effort in the end result

my jaw dropped as soon as i saw this picture. the "white background" really helps bring out the subtle and simple highlights on the body / dress. this pictures displays amazing photography talent. kind of reminds me a bit of belly dancing with the pose. love to see what she would do with belly dancing as inspiration :)
