  1. Hello everyone. I have a very little shop in SL that's been growing slowly but stedily, with mesh clothing for Classical Lolita style. I create mesh as a hobby of mine, so the shop is in no way a serious thing: it's more for fun and dress-up than actual profit. However, while I do like to create mesh, I hate texturing it and frankly, I'm not very good at it. So I'm looking for someone who shares my passion for classical cuteness and would be willing to work with me in texturing my clothes, in a relaxed, no-pressure environment. My mesh creation has no schedule and I wouldn't demand a schedual for texturing the pieces from you either. We would split profits 50-50 for all the pieces you texture, for as long as the store is active (which would probably be forever, since it's currently only in the marketplace, ATM). Here is my very small Flick: https://www.flickr.com/photos/126464705@N08/ (I also do the posters and photography myself, though I'm not too good with it either) If you're interested in the concept at all, please let me know. I would really like to find someone with better photoshop skills than me (not a hard task XD) to elp out with the texturing.
  2. So, I decided to open a new thread after some conversations in the helper groups inside SL. For some reason I cannot bake my texture in cycles using the combines bake. I've always used this and never had any problem. Someone in the group tried baking with te same settings I had and worked fine, so by process of elemination, it seems the problem is either with my texture (a 11024*024 pattern image that I got from bucket painting a canvas with a pattern in Photoshop) or there's something wrong with my mesh. Here's a couple of things I've tried: -Baked in a new blender file where I remade the material nodes from sceatch and imported the mesh as an obj to start -changed the resolution of the final bake image -recalculated normals and tried different unwrappings of the mesh Nothing seems to work. I'm willing to share my blend file if you're interested in having a closer look. Below are some images: Many thanks in advance!!
  3. Thank for the sggestions! It looks a bit better, but for some reason, it's not baking properly (see on the right? no pattern, just noise). Any suggestions? EDIT: Never mind, it seems like the problem is not coming from the bake from the mesh itelf. I need to find out what's wrong with it...
  4. Hi everyone. A little help with texturing and nodes, please. I want to make this texture more defined, so the patern kind of pops out a bit more. I'm not sure which nodes to use for that effect. I played around with a couple of them, but couldn't get the desired effect. I the pattern to sort of pop out in comparison with the background colour. Any suggestions? Thank you!!!
  5. I saw this hair in a flickr picture and I'm trying to figure out where it's from: https://www.flickr.com/photos/111001599@N03/13733440904/ I can't quite understand the caption from the photographer, so... a little help? Thanks!
  6. Not sure I understood you, Gaia, but when I said "invisible" I ment the side of the mesh that has no texture, therefore becomes invisible holes in SL. Ok, update: I did some experiments, and the problem is really not with the solidify. It's just with the actual layering of the mesh. and I still have problems with the ruffles. I'm trying to fix this with just weight paiting, but without much luck, since it doesn't want to be painted ito shape. I used the texture mode so you could see the problem better.
  7. my real problem here is the freakin' ruffles! If I don't solidify, the invisible inside easily peaks through and ruins the effect. As for the back, I can actually just delete the underskirt and have one layer. But the ruffles!!!!!! T_T My beautiful ruffles!!!!
  8. I haven't had a problem with this for ages, but now it's happening. Ok, two issues here: first, This is a mesh with layering. Meaning, it's a dress that has one layer of fabric on top of another and I want both layers to move together nicely, in sync. Apperently, that's not happening and not only can't I figure out why, I can't seem to move Avastar into a position that lets me recreate the errors I see in SL. Secondly, I have a solidify modifier with a 0.001 thickness, which might not be helping either. Like I said, I can't quite get a position of the bones where I can spot the problem here, so I can't realy try and weight paint it. I've tried a large blur brush with multi-paint and auto-normalise to see if that would help, but no luck.
  9. I'm looking for a texturer whith experience in texturing mesh clothing. I have a small shop and I'm a mesh creator in my free time (it's my hobby), but I'm quite terrible at texturing and don't enjoy it all. MY real passion is in 3D modeling and creation. So I was looking for someone who would be interested in working very closely with me on either casual project or for all items in the store. The person in question would be responsible for: *Texturing my mesh creations *Making shadows and light effects, making normal maps and all other texture and image-related necessities for SL *Fixing UV maps when needed for better texturing *Employing any texturing tecnique that's suitable (blender's render, cycles texturing, photoshop only, etc) *Creating unique patterns and motifs for the items. I'm offering a % of the sales of all the items textured by you. We can discuss the details and I'm pretty flexible about it. ^.^ If this interests you at all, let me know. You can leave a message here or contact me inworld by leaving a notecard to Spinell Resident. Thank you!
  10. Hello Vendetta Coy. I'm looking for a texture artist to work with me with texturing my mesh clothing, since I'm honestly not very good at texturing. Here is my ad: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Inworld-Employment/Mesh-Texturer-proposition/td-p/2793400 You can check out my clothing style by clicking at my signiture; it'll take you to the marketplace. If you're interested in joining up with me, let me know! ^.^
  11. I have never hired help before but I wanted to try and find out how this could work. Now, the main reason why I never hired anyone is payment. I have no idea how much something like this costs but as a means of payment for the work, I would like to propose a % of the sales. I was thinking something around 25% of sales of all the items textured by you. This would probably be until a certain amount of time (a couple of months, perhaps) or we can do a lifetime % of sales for a much lower rate. I am open to discussions and we can negociate this. If this interests you at all, let me know. You can leave a message here or contact me inworld by leaving a notecard to Spinell Resident. Thank you!
  12. Like I said, I don't mind if we lower the price, since I don't really have any professional training. Please show me the details you'd like in the mesh and I'll do my best. If you like the work then we'll discuss a price. ^.^
  13. I there. I'm a hobbyist and I make mesh in my spare time for fun. I'm used to modeling clothes, although not on large sizes (the opposite, actually ), but I would be willing to give this a try. If you want, we can do it like this: I'll show you what I can do and if you like it, we'll agree on a price (30,000L$ is more than enough for me, really). You'll be texturing the shirt, correct? I'm honestly not good with texuring, my real passion is on 3D modeling, so Maybe I 'll that to you. Not sure about the human body part: I assume you're not wearing a mesh avatar and I can use the SL model? Here's a quick example for you to see. If you like it, then we can discuss more details. ^.^
  14. On a similar note, does anyone know where I can find a tutorial for slink appliers? I have the feet developer kit and wanted to make some tights and socks.
  15. I wanna have a go at making my own mesh head. Mostly just for myself. I'd like some tips from you guys on modeling and topology, since I believe I have to model this in ortho view? I still don't know how I'm gonna make that work, since I find it very hard to work on that view. I'd also like to know how to apply things like emotions and animations? I think it's possible to make eyes blink with mesh heads, like with the default SL avatar? Thank you for the help and advice. Also, this: XD https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ac4qV2uIF3Q (Think it's this easy?)
  16. Hi everyone. I honestly never had to buy skins for myself; I found one that I really liked without too much searching and I've been using it ever since. But my own businessin SL has been doing well and I have a little spare money to spend and I feel it's time for a change. And then the nightmare. I am simply a disaster shopping for skins. And there's also the issue of fitting them with the shape. I can never make them look as I wanted or as good as the poster. So, I am asking you for help. I know there are a lot of people in SL who are used to shopping for skins, so please give me some advice and suggestions. I'm trying to find somethingrather simple and with an "airy" feel. Sort of like this: I've also heard something about mesh lips? Not sure if they're worth it, but do tell me. Thank you very much!!!
  17. I forgot to mention: in SL, I AM using ALM. I've used that diffuse map I baked inside SL and I do get a really good glossy effect. No complaints there, it works very well and I can even adjust the effect. EDIT: I found the problem! Really, sometimes it's the simple things, isn't it? I took a look at my original combined bake and the problem was there. I had an extra shader mix that was messing up things. I took that out, did another combined bake and NOW I got the colour on the arms, not just the black. From here, I will probably add to SL a glossy bake and diffuse bake to get that shiny effect and it should be fixed. I'll psot it here.
  18. Here's my node set-up. The second one is for the Silk Pattern node group. For the bake, I tried a few options to see if any got rid of the blackness in the arms, but no luck. The one I showed you before was done using the Diffuse Direct bake. I didn't use any other options. I also didn't change anything with the world or scene settings. I'm still learning my way around the nodes. It's very intuitive but sometimes there are a few effects that are hard to pull off.
  19. Thank you very much for all your replys. You did help me understand this better and I am getting some better results in SL. However, it hasn't solved my problem all the way. Let me give you another picture: As you can see form the left, the scene is pretty well illuminated. I have three planes with emission plus a diffuse node on the actual material. But, for some reason, when I bake the diffuse map, I cannot get light on the arms part, no matter what. I can't wrap my head around this one.
  20. Two problems I'm trying to figure out with cycles and SL. In the first, I made a lovely node setup for a shiny, glossy silk material that looks amazing in blender. I baked it using the "combined" functions (I haven't yet researched the other options, since all of the tutorials use combined) and uploaded the baked UV onto SL to use as a texture. But... SL is not getting the info about the glossy-ness: Instead of bring glossy and reflecting the colour, it's black. Is there something I'm missing? How can I get the information or the light from the glossy bake into SL? Do I need to bake some kind of special map and use it somehow in SL? Second problem: For some reason, 2 meshes I'm using are not baking properly the textures onto the UV map: I don't know if this is because of the UV map? I just used the smart UV unwrap, since I've seen it being used often in the tutorials and it works just fine. I've tried other UV unwraps but I always get a very messy result and I don't know why. If I use this texture directly onto the mesh it doesn't look like it's pretty rendered version above at all. Perhaps I'm missing a node? Does this have to do perhaps with the vectors? Also, since I'm asking questions: Anyone know how I can change the rendering to be done by my CPU reather than my graphics card, in blender 2.71? I think my CPU will probably be faster in rendering and I wanna check.
  21. Thanks guys. The decal tutorials were what I was looking for. ^.^
  22. More cycles rendering questions!!! :D So I have this corset I made and now I want to put a picture right in the middle of it. If that's a little confusing thing that, for example, you hape a plain t-shirt and now you want to put a smiley face print in the center of it. How do I do this with cycles? I haven't yet come across a tutorial where you do this. I've used patterns and textures before, but they cover the entire mesh. Any ideas? Or a tutorial where they do this?
  23. well, now I'm curious. Could you take a picture of an example you saw? Like the others said: there's only one kind of mesh. I'm guessing this wow factor comes from really good texturing.

    Lighting tips

One of the things that I still can't understand with texturing in cycles is lighting the scene properly. I can fill up the entire place with lamps and I still don't get enough light to see the mesh properly in render mode. I have 4 point lamps and two planes with an emission material going all around this and I still can't see this properly. What am I missing?

    Missing lights?

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I was actually missing a few nodes, namely an emission node, which really helped. Although, I do have a slight complaint. I managed to get my texture onto SL and it looks great! But, it doesn't look quite the same as in blender. Which anoys me. Any guesses as to why or how I can fix it? For example, you can see rom the pictures above that I get a very glossy effect on the fabric to make it look like silk. Well, it doesn't seem that glossy in SL. I also wanted to have it reflect light back just slightly, but I'l not sure if that's possible to do in SL.
