  1. Darn - Adam beat me to it! I was going to say that I believe the 'turning puzzle' by the lower door might be broken, and after a few tries it sends you back to the hollow stone. I watched a YouTube video (can't find it now) where the quester came to the bottom door and cammed in and pressed a button on the other side of the door to open it. I have also cammed to the throne inside and chosen "sit here". Have fun!
  2. Many great ideas above. I had an idea I suggested to LL - "If a water parcel becomes abandoned, make it public land rather than putting it up for auction." One of my first negative experiences in Second Life was finding that I couldn't sail on a lot of waterways because they were some other resident's private property. Sorta like clogs in the arteries. Granted, LL would lose some revenue, but I think it would improve the value of Mainland in the long run. Also one of my first traumatic experience as a newb, (I'm afraid I took it personally), was running into a short-fuse 'security system' and being booted out before I could figure out how to respond. Could there be a minimum response time? Granted that putting in water channels or bridges between the continents would cost a lot of computer time, how about putting in inter-continental waterways or bridges but charge private Region owners an extra fee to be placed next to them?
  3. As someone who has been in Second Life for a while, but still hasn't mastered "mesh bodies, heads, HUDs, appliers, BoM, EvX, skins, tattoos, eyes, hairbases, AOs, rigged/unrigged, Wear/Add..."etc... I don't think I would be much help as a mentor for folks who want to change their appearance. I DO like Lindal Kidd's idea of having a notecard with some basic information on it that I could offer to any newbs who wanted it. Any ideas on how such a notecard could be made available for "unofficial" mentors? Also, this thread has reminded me to try to be nicer to newcomers, both here in the forums and inworld.
  4. Builder's Brewery also has a small terraforming playground: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Builders Resource/211/211/25 where you can practice using the terraforming tools.
  5. In my experience, "World Search" and "Region Objects" (Under Pathfinding) may have distance limits. I would try going up to 4000 meters and looking around as you fly down - I once found a VKC dog up in the sky, and someone's horse at the bottom of the ocean. Failing that, a Support Ticket might work.
  6. I just heard that Culprit will be closing their inworld store next month due to the owner's ill health. Their Marketplace items will remain, but their inworld items are now 50% off. I know several people here liked the Culprit horses and pianos, so if you're in the market for those you might want to go over there and check it out. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Culprit/199/152/23
  7. Just to change the topic - there were over a dozen Lindens at a recent event - "Bid the Lindens Bald" - they raised $L736,000 for charity. It looked to me as if they had put a lot of effort into their coiffures, and some of them were enthusiastically participating. The ones that got the least bids were stoic about being shaved bald. It seems to me that Second Life is such a large place that it would be rare to run into a Linden outside of public events. I suspect the ones that are inworld are building things in areas we can't see. Some of them who work online have helped me with different problems - most recently Mint Linden quickly and professionally helped me find some lost inventory. Yes, I still have a lot of complaints, but I don't think it is fair to insinuate that the Lindens aren't working just because you don't see them.
  8. I bought land because I wanted to feel like a resident - not just a tourist. There have been a few times when I have not had even a tiny parcel, and even though I could set "Home" to any number of places, I felt homeless. Also, I enjoy landscaping and choosing or making a structure for the parcel, be it ever so humble.
  9. The landscaping is still there, but you can no longer pick up a backpack HUD. I found this hunt on the SL Official Destination Guide and went to the location. No HUD anywhere. Finally checked DRD's Discord server and found information there. I IM'd DRD staff to let them know to ask Second Life to take down the listing. There is apparently no way to notify Second Life Itself to take down the Destination Guide listing unless you are a sponsor of a location..
  10. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Tyta/213/168/136 I'm moving towards removing my old castle from current site. For the time being, please feel free to visit. Please; however, don't touch the scary picture in the dungeon - exorcisms are expensive.
  11. Yessssssssssssssss It all began with the prim. Should we forget our roots and pretend we came into the world fully meshed? Part of what I see as the beauty of the Mainland is that it is a place where you can build what you want. When I see a blocky resident build I see it as a sign that someone has struck out on their own to create something unique. They did not go to the store or Marketplace to buy an "acceptable" home, they made their own. I think the history of the Mole builds also reflects some of us residents' learning curves: We might start with a prim, torture it a bit, try making a few sculpts and then...if we are brave enough...we tackle Blender. One of the first thoughts I had on seeing one of the early Mole builds was "I could build that!" and that encouraged me to try my hand at building (and found it was harder than it looked). I did not come here for an argument, just wanted to give my opinion.
  12. I kinda like all the old primmy mole-made builds. They remind me of when the world was new.
  13. You are correct. For example, when I look at the Land Use Fee chart it tells me that I have _____square meters available at the tier rate I am paying. I have the option of buying extra land to 'get my money's worth', or I could cut off and sell or abandon a bit of land so that I am at a lower tier rate. The odd shaped parcels you see are not the result of someone like me deciding "I want my parcel shape to look like a pixel octopus', but a result of years of someone like me adding and subtracting bits of land to their parcels because the tier system does not have more graduated steps. Also, it is residents like me who decide to save tier expenses by cutting off a little bit of the road frontage AND selling it at a high price. After all, we can just permanently defender whatever is put on the property, so it is not OUR problem.
  14. The parcel next door to me in Tyta is for sale. The shape of the parcel shows what years of the Linden's "We can't be bothered setting up a better tier payment system." policy has done. It's not 'gerrymandering' - maybe we should call it 'Lindenmandering'?
  15. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Carrollton Bay/100/66/83 will get you in sight of Merrymount - Very nice. I especially like the carnival and the fairytale statues. I was grousing "there should be peacocks" and lo - there were peacocks! My only disappointment was that I couldn't figure out how to shoot off the cannon.
  16. Thank you for the information. I bought the Tree and Rock scene from THS and unlinked the pieces. The three plants are identified as being from Reid Parkin.
  17. Would real Patch Linden fans wear mouse ears and a mouse tail? I was in Sialdor when I stumbled upon a shop, Children of The Stories, where you can buy copies of the costumes the role players have worn over the years. If you buy the Mouse Guardians outfit you will get not only a pair of mouse ears and a mouse tail, but also face and body paint, two wooden shields that can be colored or textured*, two wooden swords, AND (drumroll please)six roleplay animations - Sneeze1, Sneeze2, Sneeze3, SneezeBABY, SneezeFAKE, and SneezeLOUD. All this for only 400 Lindens! Now, you might be able to get the tail and ears for less somewhere, but if you buy them at Fantasy Faire (only open for a few more days) you will also be supporting Relay for Life. Plus, you get the weapons, the paint, and the sneezes. I have donned some of the costume so you can see it. I am looking forward to watching the rest of this year's roleplay adventures. This year 'the children' are "The Gathered" and they have been doing a tremendous job. You can catch up with this year's story at the Fantasy Faire 2023 website. And if there is anyone in Bellisseria who hasn't been to Fantasy Faire, I really recommend it. You don't have to be into fantasy, there is something there for everyone. *Texture for shield "Patch Linden Fan Club"?
  18. (Business names scribbled over) View from a Meditation Temple in Celchu. One ad structure is on a 16sqm parcel, the other on an 80sqm parcel. ( The green bars are on a 928 sim parcel for rent.). I don't believe the Lindens care about the Mainland any more. The only thing that folks who do love the Mainland can do is vote with their wallet - don't buy or rent from a business that makes the land or map views ugly.
  19. Excellent! The BelliHub and New User Tutorial Area is in the sandy area in the south, and the Home Demos are in BelliDemo to the North. You can get a free beer or borrow a bicycle, but they disappear; however, you can get a free N-17 sailboat near the rezzing area that you can keep and use to explore the Bellisserian waters. The home demos are very well done, and should make it easier for residents to decide "What Bellisserian home should I choose?".
  20. Just want to say "Thank You! for the wonderful Zoo-Palooza 4.
  21. Current Cosmopolitan BD has about two days to go. I hadn't been for a while, but they have a new layout and lots of gifts. Konoha has a nice gift of a collection of Osteospermum cerulean - 19 different sized clumps from 1LI to 4LI (largest shown here), and Goose's gift is a 3LI Old Waterwell. Photo shot from 16 meters using default setting. Cosmopolitan is at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/No Comment/128/127/35
  22. Back in 2015 I had a QuadDog avatar made by Fate (luna.fate). Partly, it was because my avatar name, "Rufferta" is an homage to Sergio Aragone's hero Groo's dog Rufferto. Partly, because on the internet.... I've found that wearing different avatars sometimes seems to change my interactions with others.
  23. Fantasy home decor at DDDF Lost Dragon Egg Hunt now through May 14. Large, easy to find eggs around the whole Region of Dandelion Dreamland. Get more details from the hunt posters.
