  1. Secret Rez Zone? I was following a boardwalk made by Alberto Linden in 2005, when it suddenly narrowed to half its width. A little further on it turned into a line of large stones, then bare dirt. I turned on 'show property lines' to get a better view and followed the easement underwater, where it resurfaced on a raised parcel of land and was now labelled "Protected Seaway". The area to the bottom right of the picture is labelled "Rez Zone" and is partly on land, partly on water. There are no signs or anything to identify it as a rez zone, though. You can see an Infohub on the distance. Where am I?
  2. Finally found it - Circuit La Corse, Venostrate - 18/8/28 - Corsica
  3. Beautiful! YOU should have been on the splash page.
  4. I think we should all do our part so that newcomers who see the new splash page don't feel disappointed. (I can't be as beautiful as Maitimo, but I did my best. )
  5. Clue: I went back to take another photo and decided not to, since the map has been fixed, the space bugs are so big that they show up on the map!
  6. I used to live on a small parcel near the edge of the Snowlands in Sansara. I remembered that one of the neighbors had alien space vehicles on his land. I went back to see if they were still there, and they have evolved, gotten bigger, and are attacking a long-established building products store! Where am I?
  7. That is the Teen Grid Transfer Station in Baffin. (79/59/38, although it is hard to miss). It still seems contemporary.
  8. On Fox Chase Hill Do you dare climb here, Derender the shielding trees, And wake the dragon? (This spot was found on a list supplied by Gingir Ghoststar). Also posted on "WTH..." topic under "Land"
  9. On Fox Chase Hill Do you dare climb here, derender shielding trees to wake the dragon? (This site found on a list of Bellisseria landmarks made by Jon Ree and distributed by Gingir Ghoststar, Founder of the Bellisseria Citizens Group)
  10. This is in Hina 55/206/36. Beware Philip's Pants.
  11. This is not a permanent landmark, but I thought it was worth seeing. It is in Gaeta V. On both sides of the Linden road there is a nonprofit organization dedicated (as far as I can understand) to saving the atmosphere. On one side is their building and educational exhibits, and on the other side there is a large green dinosaur and a Minecraft cow. On the rise behind the dinosaur is an art exhibit by a Japanese artist Yanamizuki (Yana). Her gallery and her blog feature scenes from Second Life. None of the art appeared to be for sale, but there are two free calendars on the outside front of the gallery enclosure. Down the road, beyond the rocky parcel surround, is a very modern house that looks like it is in a sea of liquid mercury. At night settings the top of their surround has rainbow lights. While I usually hate parcel surrounds this one is very lovely at night. Where was I? (Just Region name is fine) By the way, the map seems to be coming back! Yeah!
  12. This is the Cloud Chateau in Hina - 25/3/748. I actually hadn't seen it before but I remembered the Particle Laboratory and started trying out the different balloon destinations. Thank you! I have always loved fireworks, and these were something special.
  13. Thank you! I was aware of the Dinken Gallery, but not of the wonderful underwater passage beyond it. Seeing these things makes me hopeful for the survival of the Mainland. I had forgotten that the dam wall was hollow - I wonder why Prok put up the monument?
  14. I'm sorry I didn't have a better photo. Here is one from the top.
  15. Wearing my mecha-suit Borok I was concerned that, with the water on one side being 86 feet, and on the other side 16, this dam would not be able to hold back the huge weight of the water behind it. I was reassured that it has been standing since Eric Linden built it in Sansara years ago. Behind the dam there is a Marina, and at the bottom of the Marina there is a small section of the Public Land Preserve with furniture for mermaids and some freebies including a book "What Mermaids & Mermen Ought to Know About MATING". On the other side there is a narrow river, spoiled by some unfortunate builds and over-eager security orbs, that ends in a bay near the Snowlands. Where was I?
  16. Blake Sea - Haggerty - 77/94/69. Darn, I was all over this area yesterday, but didn't think to look up. I did get to admire a lot of the Blake Sea area yesterday, though - very beautiful! Sidenotes: I was using an old version of the Continent locater script in my "Where the heck am I?" bracelet, and I found that it has been updated to include Sharp. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/ContinentDetector Loren Fox has updated many maps and also produced a HUD so that you can find rezzing areas. Free on the Marketplace. https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Mainland-Maps-RezZone-LandMarks-FinderHUD-MAREFI/20221306 There are new exhibits at the New Kadath Lighthouse, including a page that shows Jack Linden's early drawings of some of the continents. Simple's Zoo in Lythria is now gone, but there are still vestiges in Plebeja, where you can still cam in and pick up some freebies or buy some books or buildings.
  17. I was curious so I went back to Bogatanta to check and the bunker itself is attributed to Dark Mole. The two posters on the left are attributed to Abnor Mole, but the far-right poster - "327th Recon Poster" - is attributed to Dark Mole.(see snapshot below) The two posters on the long side are attributed to Abnor Mole, but the helmets and tridents* are Dark Mole's...*You won't see the tridents unless you get rid of the sand. I did that by using Advanced/Rendering Types/Surface Patch** **This time I didn't erase all my toolbars by accident when I used the Advanced option...
  18. While I was looking for 'The Merfolk Bunker' I found a cozy wooden platform by the water. Where am I?
  19. I found it, I found it! Stanlee Region, West Coast Road - 0/144/37.
  20. A small but elegant Marina made by Abnor Mole. On the wall inside is a painting called "Uncle Ab", and outside there are folding chairs around a fire pit. Where am I?
  21. This is Gateway Marina in Gogol. Truly beautiful. In my search I visited many other Marinas whose owners allow public rezzing, and I am really impressed by everyones' generosity.
  22. Nevermind - I was wanting to have the "Continent Locator" script updated to include Sharp, and I see it has been. Unfortunately the updated script now does not include Caledon. I am thinking that the script might be better named "Where Am I?" and forget worrying about whether or not a place is on a Continent and just include places a newcomer is likely to land. Nevertheless, a great and useful script and I am grateful to those who had the skill to make it. Now, perhaps, a script to update scripts so that folks like me always have the newest one? // Script by Dale Innis, January 2011. You may do whatever you like with this script, without limitation. // Updated June 2011, June 2013, March 2014, December 2015 and February 2021 by Braclo Eber. // Please see changelogs below for details. It was getting too long to keep at the start of the script. // NOTE: Due to how close some regions are to the private continents, some might indicate they are part of the continent due to how the script works. // ----- // Each set of five list elements represents a grid-aligned rectangle, in the form xmin, xmax, ymin, ymax, name. // The code returns the FIRST one that it finds, so its okay if the rectangles overlap, as long as you put // the right one first. list map = [ 270592.0,276712.0,249088.0,253952.0,"Bellisseria East", 261888.0,272128.0,240896.0,250112.0,"Bellisseria", 296704.0,301824.0,252928.0,256512.0,"Sharp", 257024.0,266240.0,229888.0,240640.0,"Jeogeot", 251392.0,254464.0,256000.0,257280.0,"Bay City", 254720.0,265984.0,250368.0,259072.0,"Sansara", 253696.0,259840.0,259328.0,265472.0,"Heterocera", 281344.0,290560.0,257280.0,268288.0,"Satori", 290048.0,290816.0,268288.0,270080.0,"Western Blake Sea", 290816.0,295424.0,266496.0,272128.0,"Blake Sea", 286720.0,290048.0,268288.0,269056.0,"Nautilus City", 283136.0,291072.0,268288.0,276992.0,"Nautilus", 281600.0,296448.0,276992.0,281856.0,"Corsica", 291840.0,295936.0,284672.0,289536.0,"Gaeta I", 296960.0,304640.0,276736.0,281600.0,"Gaeta V", 460032.0,466432.0,301824.0,307456.0,"Zindra", // List of private continents. 117504.0,123136.0, 435200.0,440320.0,"Eden", 250112.0,254720.0, 245248.0,248576.0,"Estate", 282624.0,284160.0, 268288.0,270080.0,"FairChang", // and then for places outside the bounds of mainland continents, some random names... 0.0,250000.0, 0.0,999999.0,"the Western Ocean", 250000.0,265000.0, 0.0,999999.0,"the West", 265000.0,280000.0, 0.0,999999.0,"the Center Longitudes", 280000.0,310000.0, 0.0,999999.0,"the East", 310000.0,450000.0, 0.0,999999.0,"the Gap Longitudes", 450000.0,500000.0, 0.0,999999.0,"the Zindra Longitudes", 500000.0,999999.0, 0.0,999999.0,"the Far East" ]; string get_continent_name(vector gc) { integer count = llGetListLength(map); integer i; for (i=0;i<count;i+=5) { if ((gc.x>=llList2Float( map,i )) && (gc.x<=llList2Float( map,i+1 )) && (gc.y>=llList2Float( map,i+2 )) && (gc.y<=llList2Float( map,i+3 )) ) return llList2String( map,i+4 ); } return ""; } say_location() { vector gc = llGetRegionCorner()+llGetPos(); llOwnerSay("Coordinates: "+(string)gc.x+","+(string)gc.y); string s = get_continent_name(gc); if (s!="") { llOwnerSay("You are in "+s); } else { llOwnerSay("You are not in any known area."); } } default { changed(integer change) { if (change & CHANGED_TELEPORT) say_location(); } touch_start(integer total_number) { say_location(); } } // Changelog // Created January 2011 by Dale Innis // Updated June 2011 by Braclo Eber. // Some border sims of continents were missing from the detector. // Changed some figures to be more accurate. 23. Years ago, when I went to investigate a similar bunch, the avatars were all naked, but there was at least one avatar aware enough to text me that it was none of my business when I asked what they were doing. These seem to be clothed, and there are no reports of them communicating with outsiders. Are they chatting on private channels? Are they test dummies for some new Linden project? Has anyone tried infiltrating the group by putting on the same avatar and trying to blend in?
  24. I passed by this place today while I was on the newest pod tour. Where am I?
