  1. I've been saving up my peeves: In Second Life: 1. Full-perm objects where the seller has made minor changes and listed themselves as creator. I know this is common practice, but it is still maddening to find out that the 'rare' item you just got from a vendor is based on something you could have gotten for $1L on the Marketplace. On left, $1L item on Marketplace named Azura Queen, 2 land impact; on right, 'rare' item in vending machine which has been altered and renamed, 3 land impact. In another life: 2. When the yoga instructor says "Remember to breathe." as if I would forget. 3. When I'm logging on to my email and I get the message "If this is taking too much time, please go directly to your destination."
  2. I have travelled Bellisseria many ways - balloons, planes, automobiles... I lack the coordination skills to navigate at high speeds, though, so I often choose to walk, or use a 'wearable' vehicle like rollerskates, a horse, a canoe, or a bicycle. I don't cover much territory that way, but I also don't end up landing in a ditch as often... The trains in Bellisseria are also excellent for seeing the different landscapes, although they don't go everywhere. This was shot in Grover, wearing an LDPW bicycle. I haven't been in Second Life much recently, but on Mainland I love to try the different pod tours, and wish we had something like that for Bellisseria. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Grover/111/144/52
  3. I just finished decorating a 512 parcel in Sakura. I had fun trying to put it together, but it was frustrating that some of my favorite things were just too high prim to use. I made a small pond out back, but other items were from a fatpack that (when I later read the description) were actually designed for a house in a 'red light' district. This was the 'open plan' version of the Kinmokusei model. I have 13 prims left and I could keep on moving things around forever, but I have other things I need to do now. I'm sure I'm going to come back tomorrow and realize some things are misaligned or misplaced. Please let me know if you see problems I can correct. Some of my mask and art collection. I always wanted an excuse to buy Maru Kado's Nyan statue. Kitchen behind a phantom prim with a 'disappear' script. Kitchen open.
  4. Just a warning on asking for a particular Linden home after moving to Premium Plus - last night I found the perfect parcel and sent in a request - this morning I got a message that the coordinates I had given them were "on the road" and I went back to check and someone else had claimed the parcel just a few hours ago. Make sure that you are in the middle of the parcel when you put in the coordinates, not on the sidewalk in front of it. Putting in the parcel designation doesn't seem to matter.
  5. I signed up for Premium Plus because I wanted the extra group slots and because I wanted to have any 'early adapter' benefit there might be when/if the 2048 Premium Linden homes become available. Checking on the name change fee reduction, I found that you have to put in a support ticket to get the $15.00 deal; otherwise you have to pay the standard $39 fee.
  6. I feel as if something has been left out. Based on previous statements that Premium Plus would be a reduction in overall cost, this new Premium Plus option only makes sense if Coffee Pancake's prediction that the price for regular Premium will be going up is correct. I would have been willing to pay double-regular-Premium for Premium Plus if only to avoid having to periodically send my subordinate alt's stipends to my primary alt. While a Linden home on a 2048 M2 plot sounds wonderful, it is in Soonland now. In the meanwhile, how about giving Premium Plus members status symbols like having their name tags and text show up in shiny gold?
  7. I consider the cost of three premium alts to be a "vacation" expense. I used to travel, but my current health situations prohibit that, so Second Life is an inexpensive alternative. I spend more money on causes I believe in, but they don't give me the same joy.
  8. A great tip! I do this slightly differently, I just sort the price tab. I found out by accident the other day that I can buy the object by putting my cursor over the price.
  9. I've been keeping a list of Asian-themed stores and areas with asian themes. I've put an asterisk by the ones I've bought items from. 10. Some areas have more abandoned land than others. For example, you probably won't find much in Horizons, Zindra, or Bay City, but if you check the interiors of continents like Corsica or Satori you will find more. If you find a large plot of abandoned land and you only want a small part you can put in a request to buy a portion. The instructions on the website are pretty clear. https://community.secondlife.com/knowledgebase/english/abandoned-land-r1034/ . You usually are charged 1 Linden per square meter, so auction prices may be cheaper. And having written this, probably this thread should be moved to the Land forums.
  11. Carl Metropolitan made that map back in 2009 and it has been widely distributed. Note, though, that it doesn't include Bellisseria, either. Loren Fox has made many excellent maps free on the Marketplace https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Mainland-Maps-RezZone-LandMarks-FinderHUD-MAREFI/20221306. Perhaps, when Bellisseria is finished, someone will make a new world map.
  12. I don't know enough to have an opinion about LL's decision to let their code be freely available; I was thinking more about the fact that we don't have hypergrid portals. I believe there was a short-lived experiment with gates, but I don't think residents ever had the option to walk from one world into another.
  13. I found this web article helpful: https://www.softwaretestinghelp.com/opensim-tutorial/. Recently I became aware of the extent of copybot piracy in parts of Open Sim. Unfortunately, I believe that legal protection for 'virtual' products is still pretty weak and there is little recourse for small creators whose products have been pirated. I believe Second Life's decision not to allow SL users to easily access Open Sim is a good one for that reason.
  14. Today I was broke (again) and so I was overjoyed when I found a new free hunt. A few of the items I got today at the 'Scoop 'N Score' hunt: ChiMia - Minimalist Office Desk - 1 li ChiMia - House Plant - 1 li ChiMia - Office Comfort Chair - 1 li [RnR] Bronze Frame - Billie Holiday - 2 li [RnR] Bronze Frame - Frank Sinatra - 2 li ::WD::Sweater Bat - Lime (Several sizes) EDERGON - The Egg Collector Hat (with Hud) Scoop 'N Score = https://secondlifesyndicate.com/events/syndicate-events/scoop-n-score/ No cost to play, all items are 0L$, May 1st to 31st
  15. Just a reminder that the annual Fantasy Faire Quest is on for at least another week. A purchase of $L250 gets you a Quest HUD, the deluxe HUD at $L350 includes a special Faire outfit. Most of the info is online, but for those like me who follow the all-in-one Home furnishings topic, here is a link to pictures of the prizes for completing only the FIRST part of the quest. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.5423455117686750&type=3 The Quest is a lot of fun, and most of the Fantasy Faire merchants have special items that are only available during the Faire.
  16. I think it depends. I imagine terraforming land surface in SL as being like moving points on a grid up or down, but not sideways. I once exposed the empty space under a neighbor's house by lowering my side of the land too far, so even if you can't terraform your neighbor's parcel you should still be careful. I find using the smallest tool and the lowest strength and working in slow circles works better than just hammering away. Builder's Brewery has a terraforming sandbox open to the public.
  17. I'd heard about Eduverse on Thinkerer's blog, and through some of my groups, but hadn't visited the Second Life site before. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/VWEC Eduverse/194/143/30 It looks like a great gateway for new residents and has a lot of useful information for new avatars, but wonder why it is not getting more attention. https://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2022/04/2022-vwedu-metaverse-collaboration-with.html

  18. I will miss places like the Temple to the Mole Gods. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Shareta Osumai/172/227/112
  19. These are absolutely beautiful! Well done, Moles!
  20. With the futon, the pizza, and the rod-curtains, I'm voting for 70's ranch house.
  21. Thank you for sharing your art and magic. You have created perfect environments for taking snapshots under & over water. It is amazing what you have done with an ordinary houseboat parcel. I look forward to seeing what you create in the future.
  22. Nothing to see here - just move along to the next comment. When this video was first posted, I could not find a captioned version so I was not able to follow along very well. Now that I found it with closed captioning I took the time to sit down and watch it all the way through. My notes, in no particular order. These are just my own personal views, and I'm sorry if anyone thinks they are confusing. My super talent is "ignoring the obvious". - Without true lip-synch avatars should keep their mouths shut. It would be more canny. - I would like to see more close-ups of the tools discussed, less of the avatar. - I was glad to see the avatar was dressed conservatively. - Closed-captioning I saw was fair, but Linden Lab might be interested in doing their own subtitles to avoid viewers using closed captioned versions seeing text like "drost distance" and "seduction destination videos". - Torley's videos were shorter. Does the current generation have longer attention spans? - Now I see why everyone was complaining about the suggestion that you should de-render everyone else at a shopping event. Me, I just try to wear a classic avatar when I go to a crowded shopping event. I have poor navigation skills, so I bump into things and people a lot. I do like watching what people wear to the shopping events, though, although at first my viewer shows them all naked. - Some tools (Advanced viewer) and phrases (alpha) seem perhaps a bit advanced for a video focused on newcomers. - I read a mention that there were time stamps showing what subjects were covered at different parts of the video. Couldn't find it. Note: I am using Firestorm Viewer, but I am glad to see that the SL viewer is being improved, and also applaud the fact that The Lab is making an effort to make SL more accessible to newcomers. The Destination Guide has improved tremendously, and this video project is a worthy project and I look forward to seeing future videos and improvements. Suggestion: Perhaps there could be very short videos discussing just one or two toolbars, and have a link from that toolbar to the video? Toolbar with all the options showing. Toolbar with the default tool items greyed out. Another suggestion: Just a video on the basic camera controls. Strawberry takes wonderful photos, and perhaps a separate video on how she does it.
  23. I just went to watch the new video and closed captioning does not seem to be available. Earlier videos had closed captioning, perhaps it will be added later?
  24. I unpack with multiple inventory windows open. One window will be set for 'recent' so unpacked items are easier to find and sort. I am also trying to deal with a terrible 'freebie' addiction by asking myself "do I need this?" before taking gifts. (But you can never have too many earrings or candles, right?) I periodically set 'sorting times' and try to sort by category. Setting one inventory window to 'sort by name' can help you find duplicates. When items come in a folder whose name has nothing to do with the contents, I try to rename it ("Gift from 'Barbi Shopkeeper'" becomes "Ugly sweater with HUD that doesn't fit any of your bodies but you might get that body in future") I accept that I am a hoarder.
