  1. For my shopping quirk I find that I completely ignore events and do my shopping exclusively on the Marketplace. I am also very structured when I buy items. On the first day of the month I will buy a hairstyle, a dress, and shoes and on the 15th, I will buy a top and a bottom. Then every Tuesday, when my stipend comes in I'll buy a furniture item. If I have leftover money I'll buy make-up and add-ons from my favourite mesh head store. My budget for everything is 300L; I rarely spend above that for each item. For my non-shopping quirk, I tend to time myself on Second Life with a separate timer app. One minute for loading, 15 minutes for gaming on Gaming Island, and 15 minutes hanging out in Kuula. Everytime I type something in IM or open chat I'll reset the timer to 15 minutes, and when the timer runs out I head to another place for another 15 minutes. I try to spend one and a half hours on Second Life per day (3 hours if I don't have work on that day).
  2. Came back to Second Life after an extended hiatus, and bought some mainland and a skybox and am now in the process of decorating it. It is a little plain now because I'm waiting for weekly stipend to come in, and it'll probably never be completely finished.
  3. I use the SL Viewer. The last time I tried the Firestorm Viewer, I ended up lagging so badly that my chat was affected. But that was some time ago, and I didn't find the need to switch viewers because I quite enjoy using the SL viewer, and because it seems to have all I need to make my second life enjoyable. Though I would be significantly happier if I didn't crash once every hour...
  4. Both ways actually. My dressing tends to be more conserative in real life, so I tend to go for the more conservative outfits (or at least, as conserative as SL allows). However, some of the outfits I've seen in SL has given me inspiration for some of my real life outfits, while at the same time, I've bought items similar to the ones I own in real life. I found a very pretty pair of boots that remind me of those super cool boots I own in real life!
  5. For me, the main reason why I hang out at clubs is for the music and the society, and if the music is there but there's absolutely no chat in the club other than IMs, I tend to get bored and leave. Fortunately though, I have been to clubs where there is a healthy chatter going on, and those are the places that I tend to hang out at the most. I've made some pretty awesome friends at those places. As for gesture spam... yeah, I hate those as well. Especially those super long ones that make loud noises and huge gestures that take up the whole chat box, which seem to be pretty popular at certain clubs... which I chose to not hang out at.
  6. I agree, amazing things have happened because of the word "Hi"! I normally use it in local chat when I'm in a new place, and sometimes, I do get replies. Sometimes, we even have conversations, about music and so on, especially when I hang out a music clubs. It's a miracle word, really; it can lead to great conversations and friendships. That's how I found my closest friends actually. At the same time, sometimes, when I do type a hi in local chat, I don't get a response. If there's a conversation going on, I'll join in, but if everyone is all silent, I tend to move on and find another place to hang out.
  7. I lost count of how many accounts I have, to be honest, but when I do create a new account, I stay with that account for a while, and it becomes my main. I end up letting all my other accounts collect dust, which isn't good because I have actually spent money on some of those avatars. But ah well, as long as I had fun on those avatars, I think it was money well spent. For my current account, I have two avatars; one for roleplaying, and one for socialising. Both are exactly the same, since when I change skins or hair, they tend to be account-wide, and since the one involved in roleplaying is an urban one, they both can wear the same clothes. However, the personalities are very different.
  8. For me, it was when my local newspaper ran an article on two people meeting virtually, which then translated into a real life relationship, before they got married, and the programme that they used was Second Life. That intrigued me, because at that point I was bored, and the idea of virtual worlds sounded really interesting. It was something I had never really experienced before. So on that very day, I created an avatar and logged in, but at that time, I wasn't earning so my avatar ended up looking pretty ugly compared to the other avatars I found. I got into roleplay in Gor as a slave, but I found it boring (I realise I'm not of a submissive personality now), so I left. I recently created a new avatar, but left for a few months because of RIFT. I came back after I lost interest in RIFT, signed up for Premium after being convinced by some of the users, and have been here ever since. And, it's been great. I now mainly do a lot of socialising and listening to music and dancing in clubs, and I find it less stressful than when I was concentrating on roleplaying.
  9. Personally, I don't accept friends requests from people I have yet to hold a conversation to. I just reject their requests; I don't even give a reason for doing so. I also reject friends requests from people who's first words to me are requests for sex. And once again, I also don't bother giving a reply. Other than that, I tend to accept all friend requests. There's really nothing wrong with adding more people to your list; who knows, they might end up being that best friend you've been looking for, or they might end up being jerks, which you can simply delete of your friends list and block them. And besides, you can always delete them off later.
  10. I have to admit, I stayed away for a few months because I ended up getting bored with Second Life, and I've only recently gotten back into it for a month. Now that I'm concentrating on dancing in clubs, socialising and shopping as opposed to roleplay and BDSM (activites I used to be heavily into) I find that I'm actually having a lot more fun than previous occasions. So yep, I'm pretty much in the love and addicted to Second Life catagory, because I'm less stressed currently.
  11. Well, I really like the new search function; it allows us to search for events that seem interesting enough. Plus, the destinations tab is pretty good as well; I like the chat hot spots the most, as those are the areas I've actually had the most fun. It's been so long ago, I cannot really remember what the search function in the previous viewers were like though. Some of the clothing shops are really cheap as well. It's perfectly feasible to buy an outfit that costs less than 200L, and there are some skins that cost that much as well, yet still look good. Though I have to admit, when it comes to the skins, they tend to be outdated models, but that doesn't fazzle me, because as long as it looks good on me, I'm happy. It would be boring if all of us wore the same skins anyway. Social-wise... I'd say it's the same. I can't really see any changes; people haven't really become more or less friendly. But the SL population seems to be growing though, I come across quite a few new avatars from time to time. Though whether they remain for more than a week is hard to say...
  12. I'd say my avatar's persona is different from my real life personality. My avatar persona is outgoing, friendly and chatty and loves to socialise and attend dance parties whenever possible, whereas in real life, I'm a quiet person who loves to read, who barely leaves her home, and who thinks real life socialing is a huge chore because I always have to think of what to do or say to make sure I don't look stupid in front of other people. Yet at the same time, I do consider my avatar persona a part of myself as well. It's just an extention of myself in a virtual setting with less inhibitations than in real life. It's how I act in a virtual setting, much like how I act in real life is a part of myself as well.
  13. Thanks! Actually, I saw your post about the realistic avatar creation kit a few pages back and went to collect it. I have since made some changes to my avatar and now, she's about 1.68m with longer arms and bigger hands. So thanks a lot, you've really been very helpful. My avatar now looks a lot better!
  14. Personally, I used to shop exclusively at the Marketplace. I hated the rezzing time, and I found that the Marketplace was a much faster shopping experience. In addition, the Marketplace also allowed me to sort items by cost, something that I couldn't do inworld. I tend to shop on a limited budget, and inworld, the price range is hard to indicate, so I would end up wasting time teleporting into a store which was beyond my budget. However, ever since I got my new computer, the rezzing time has been reduced, though I still get a bit antsy while waiting. I've also found groups that allow me to be introduced to stores that are within my budget, and items that are on sale, which has also allowed me to live within my budget. However, my ultimate favourite skin was still bought on the Marketplace, and I have yet to find any skin as likable as that one I'm using. However, there are some skins on the Marketplace that have come close as well. Hence, to answer the question, I'd say that personally, I enjoy shopping in-world more than the Marketplace, though I still won't look down on the Marketplace when it comes to great finds, because I have found some of my favourite items on the Marketplace.
  15. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one experiencing this. Ever since I cut my performance to low on my new computer, SL has been faster for me, as compared to my old computer. Unfortunately, ever since I updated to the latest SL viewer, I'm finding that things are a lot more slower. Textures are taking longer to rez, which is extremely annoying when I want to shop. I'm actually contemplating going back to the marketplace to shop instead of shopping inworld. But I have yet to experience rubberbanding though. And on the weekends, it's even slower!
  16. I have had fun in SL before, but there was a time where I felt much bliss. It wasn't romantic or anything like that, I was just hanging out in Ahern when I got into a conversation with the people there. At one time, it was five, but by the time I left (rather reluctantly, I might add) it was four of us. We chatted on mainly superficial things, but we just connected. It's very hard to explain, but I had so much fun that day. Needless to say, I added all those people to my friends list. I keep returning to Ahern every day to see if I can recreate the moment, but no such luck. But I did end up meeting and chatting with one of the girls from that time, and we hit on so many topics! It feels great having friends on SL; friends through socialising is probably one of the best ways to make friends in SL. I'm more of a roleplayer and so I hang out at roleplay sims mostly, but I find that because we're all playing roles, we aren't really connecting as friends; just our characters interacting and creating storylines together. While that is indeed fun too, I still find myself needing to socialise from time to time.
  17. According to the SL Viewer, I am about 5 feet 9, but I have heard that the SL Viewer height measurement is not accurate, so I could quite possibly be taller. While most avatars are shorter than me (which make me think that I could quite possibly be too tall), there are some that are taller, and most of them aren't the men. But either way, I want to scale down to normal height. I'm about 4 feet 9 in real life, which would probably make me look like a kid avatar here, so I'll have to be slightly taller than that.
  18. Ceka Cianci wrote: actually it is just the one name..resident is there for the v1 viewers only..they had to do that because of their two name system and something to do with the old viewers.. what really has me confused is..if there is still a two name system then why not use it and get a list of last names and let users put in their last name they choose from that list.. they had to patch it for the v1 viewers..so why not unpatch it and let there be light again lol i mean these mesh names just sound like they will be like display names that can be changed.. i thought the whole point was to get a last name that was permanent for individuality? bleh..i have a feeling they are gonna over butter the biscuit Well... I'm no programmer (don't have the brains for it) but I agree that the solution seems to be as simple as you mentioned. But Linden labs say that they want to improve the solution, so I guess we have to see how it goes. Though why fix it if it is working fine enough, I wonder?
  19. That picture looked hot. Would have been more asthetically pleasing if her hands were tied though. For me, I do make it a point to type with proper spelling and grammar whenever possible. And since my spelling is weak, I'm a bit of a spell-check whore. I feel lost without spell-check, so if there is any word I'm not sure off, I'll google it. And I always have to correct myself in text whenever I type wrongly. But I don't correct others, though I have to admit, when I see chatspeak and the like, I don't really get a good impression of them. I still respond to them though (sometimes using chatspeak myself when everyone is using it) but if someone's typing is really so unrecognisable, I would simply ignore the person.
  20. I recently signed up for premium membership, and at certain times, I am unable to rez items in my Linden home or access my home control panel to make changes. I have yet to hit the 117prim limit. Yet a few minutes ago I was able to excercise full ownership. I'm wondering; is anyone else having this problem at the moment, or is it just me?
  21. I have to admit, it is disappointing finding out that this post was two months old, because I really want the last names back, pronto! I hate going around being known as Celebee Resident, it sounds so ugly. Though I would be very happy to keep Spinks as my last name, I just want it to be officially Spinks and not Resident.
  22. I change clothes in my own personal skybox. Though I use the outfits tab in the official SL viewer, so there isn't that much of a chance of naked bits, I still don't dare to take my chances, because it's pretty embarrassing being caught changing by other people. The main reason why I'm so paranoid was because back when I was on my first avatar, I used to change using the appearance editing tab, and I had no idea that people could actually see me changing. So one day, I was in a pretty crowded place and I started to change, when someone posted in general chat about shameless people being naked on G-rated sims (it was a freebie sim, so there were a lot of people there). Needless to say, I quickly slipped on something and teleported the hell out of there.
  23. I'm a basic account holder, and I pay about US$15 per month (same as the amount I pay for MMORPGs) for Lindens to spend. So far, I'm pretty happy with what I have, and I have yet to need to contact support for anything, but I'm actually quite tempted to go premium. I like the idea of having a little place of my own to call home. At the moment, I'm currently paying L50 per week for a skybox fully furnished, but I am unable to add my own furniture to it. The only thing I can do there is unpack boxes of clothes. And, the monthly rates for empty lots are quite expensive. At the same time, if I subscribe monthly, I get about 300L per week, which is in my opinion too small an amount. The stuff I buy costs 250L at the most. That's why I'm split between two minds when it comes to subscribing.
  24. I'd be happy to help too. My ingame name is Celebee Spinks, and while I don't have a time period in which I am consistantly online, if we both happen to be online at the same time you can IM me. And add me as a friend while you're at it, if you like.
  25. Wow, that's so cool! That's a testament to Second Life's longetivity, but I'm curious; what do you do there to keep from getting bored for 7 whole years? I can barely manage 3 months in games normally. I'm reaching my first rez date as well, though that's because I took some time off from Second Life to play Rift. And now I'm back.
