I think it's important to know a bit about the hardware that you are using. People that have amd/ati video cards have had issues with certain mesh especially fit mesh. Correct me if I'm wrong but you can find that info under help > about(your specific viewer)

I glad to see someone else get what they paid for out of a 970. I ended up Going back to an older version of the viewer in order to get the results i was looking for.

I'm not maxing the memory. It seems to be better I'm on 4.6.5 kinda afraid to upgrade.

So I wanted to post a couple of pictures to show the performance I expect. I am not real sure where the problem comes into play but... I think its ok for now.

I wanna say my fps is dropping into the sub 30 range.. More 24ish. I know that's not the best because the 660ti could produce that. I replaced it so that I could record with shadows on. I'll check again tonight

I'd agree with you except that 970's have a tdp limit I think my tdp limit is 110 and I am not getting anywhere close to that. Even now with my old gtx 660 ti. Sl is only using about 31 %of the tdp. Thats two cards that are not workin to their full potential in second life but will work to the full potential in games like watch dogs and far cry. It does not make any sense at all. Hottest the gtx 970 gets is about 60c when playing those games. Right now my gtx 660ti is only at 47c.. Find it hard to blame heat.

My situation is this My system is a Amd 8320 cpu overclocked to 4.4 16 gigbytes of ram. 256gig solid state and 1tb softaware drive. I have a 750 watt power supply And I am running a nvidia Gtx 970 graphics card. My Graphics card specs are as follows. 1140 core clock speed 1279 boosted stock. I've overclockled it so that my boosted is now about 1500mhz. The issue is that my gpu slowes down during usage of sl. Now normally I would say this wouldnt be a problem but it takes my fps down into the 9fps range. I can however play a game like farcry for a few hours on end and not have it throttle in the list bit. What I am trying to figure out is what setting could be causing my gpu to go from 1500mhz down to 1113 when heat is not a factor. In this times I do have Sl turned up pretty high so it should be demanding more power form sl. I have also tried different power profiles.. nothing seems to help. The mesh project has nice male mesh bodies. Great for when you want to wear less clothing or beach attire. It's a bit on the expensive side but it looked so nice I had to have it.

I too am the proud owner of a gtx 970 I have given a bit of an over clock and can really rock sl's world now that I've added a ssd. The ssd really helps with the load times. I would recommend them

Thank you everyone for replying. I have since learned that the drive I was recording to is slowly dying this would account for the large drop in frame rates. It was also suggest to try dxtory and shadow play. I've been using shadow play for a bit now and I can record around 30 for on my sim which has a lot going on. Lots of houses and such. Right now I'd say the gtx 970 sounds about right at 350 bucks. Unless something else comes out from the amd camp I'm not sure there much more that can touch it. It can in some cases give a gtx 780 ti a run for its money. It also gives a good Jab at the gtx Titan. I'll look at the amd cards and price to see what I come up with.

I see people making movies and such in sl all the time. Videos of friends dancing and such. I even see them do it with shadows on. I want to be able to record sl with shadows on while staying above 30fps. So heres what i have as far as specs go. amd fx 4300 8gig ram 2 1tb hdd's- i wont count the external storage A gtx 660ti 750w psu I have looked at nvidia's new offerings in the form of the gtx 970 and 980. I am certainly leaning towards the 970 due to its cost. At about 349 I could get asus strix gtx 970. What i wonder is, would it then be possible to record video on higher than 30fps with shadows on. The gtx 980 is about 549, I highly doubt I wanna pay that much. Due to the amount of time I'd have to save for it. So are their any owners of the gtx 780 ti or something near that who uses their machine to record sl video. Could you please tell me what your experience is like while recording video? Thanks to anyone who looks at this post and understands what I am after. Ps I do plan on upgrading the cpu, I am staying amd though.

That will probably run other games far better than sl does. Youll certainly get better frame rates in the mid range settings just dont go turning on shadows. I'm still fighting with shadows myself and I run a gtx 660 ti.

As a rl guy I never cared if the person on the otherside was male or female in rl. especially if we arent going rl. Sl is fantasty to me, I dont like turning this into rl so I say let others do what they like and if they wanna be a different gender its ok with me.

I will be checking out these stores just to see what they have. I am really happy with my Egoisme skin but I am not sure they will be making appliers for the slink hands. I know guys dont shop nearly as much but id love it if the creators made appliers. There are some fashion forward guys out there!

It took me about 2 days to change my Avi. It took me many months to get to a point where I really loved my avatar. For a guy it's really hard to find nice hair for a male. So my point is take your time and look at all your options

As you can see http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-650M.71887.0.html from this info your card is considered new mid range but high end from 2010/2011 I have the gtx 460m. I personally leave shadows off unless I'm trying to take pictures. Your laptop will run hot though i think 90 starts get a bit warm for the video card. You really should only see temps of 60ish on your cpu. You dont want it to run at those high temps for a prolonged period of time. The heat will stress the part out and cause premature failure. All and all since notebookcheck says your card is close to mine id say if your resolution is 1080 and you turn everything up its the shadows beating on the card. Turn those down when you dont need them also lower your sky settings and keep your draw distance low. sub 128. Oh one more thing... when i have dof field on i drop to about 14fps ... its still playable... 6 is when i cant deal with how slow it is.

While gaming laptops aren't nearly as big as towers they still are gigantic. They also font have much flexibility when it comes to upgrading. I love mine but.... For the money I spent I could have built a really awesome desktop. For now I am stuck with a gtx 460m graphics card.

I won't argue that people don't accept it.. Most don't even get a chance to learn it. I sell computers and most here from their friends with no full explanation. I show my customers what it means before I tell them it isn't a good idea. Just tonight and elderly lady asked me I'd she should upgrade. She expressed that she didn't want to learn anything new. I told her that while it would be a speed increase she would have to upgrade her office.. Not a real valid reason to upgrade for the cost. But at least she knows the cost and risk. Typing from a phone sucks.

Actually if your buying a new machine the os comes with it whatever price you pay for the machine is on you. Secondly classic shell is a free application and in my honest opinion much better than start 8. So what I recommend is If the machine comes with 8, don't go through all the trouble of fighting with installing 7 when you can install classic shell. I have had 3 customers ask me to install 7 it isn't a fun process. Glad they are paying me to do it but I wanna bash my head in every time I also did some checking via new egg. They show 7 and 8 for roughly about the same cost. If people don't like 8 it's fine they just need to understand what their options are. Personally I feel a bit more annoyed using any classic start menu.

But If they aren't being given good info what good is it? Example. The only method the press gives people is to close the application by dragging it out and down. That's a huge pain .. When you can eexpose the side panel right click and select close. Also classic shell solves all these concerns. Performance wise 8 isn't any slower than 7 and classic desktop functions and looks like 7.

Typing from phone so bare with me. I use windows 8 day in and day out. Most people's problems are the start menu. I have gotten use to it but for those who can't there is always classic shell. Classic she'll adds that start button back to the lower lef. II've considered it but I feel it's a slower process to access my applications. The other side is that it is a pain in the butt to install 7 on an 8 based machine. Most companies I have seen don't produce drivers for 7 when the machine comes with 8. This is mostly true with hp devices. Most of the time I have to scour the net using the devices hhardware I'd to fine the driver. These may not be optimized for 7. Just keep these things in mind.. And win 8 shouldn't be compared to vista... Vista was slow, while 8 is some what confusing to people
