  1. I recently upgrade to a i7 8700k, I do see a performance boost but I think its more so from the 1080ti than the actual i7-8700k, If sl was the main focus I would say it wasnt worth it. But since I do things in VR it does help to make sure that the CPU is not bottle necked.
  2. Just fine, just dont expect witcher 3 class performance and youll be fine.
  3. I won't be able to give as elegant analyse like the others but I can trutly state that based on the gpu-z in conjunction with Msi After burner, I can partially explain why this is happening. Under certain circustances, Sl will push your video card to its max. Things like max shadow resolution will drive up the gpu load. If you look at the perf cap reason it will say ulitiy. The reason it says utility is that the card truly does not feel there is a reason to ramp up to its boosted clock. This is why I modded my bios( I do not recommend this) it does however give me the max boosted clock speed while in a game like is. There is absolutely no reason why fps should tank other than SL was built badly and they have no intention of inproving that. I vowed to never buy another video card with the focus of sl.
  4. I can 100 percent guarantee you that there is absolutely nothing wrong with your card, SL is a fickle beast. I felt the same as you when I added a 980ti, Too many mesh bodies in the scene and it will run like a slug. The best think I do is set my draw distance low unless I am trying to view a lot. There is simply no reason to render other sims in the distance. Youll see once its you and maybe a few people youll be able to crank the settings and let that sexy 1080 fly! Its just how it is.
  5. These specs are what I run minus the gtx 970. I traded up from a gtx 970 to a gtx 980ti strickly for recording in sl. I still manage to hit low fps in certain places, I usually run my system with this base configuration. The reason why I dont set it to ultra and forget is because its not needed. And will probably Drag the system down more than nessecary. I run 72m draw distance most of the time because going much higher is just a huge hit to the system over all. I lower my particle count to about 2048 My objects and sculpts lod is 4.0 Flexi prims 1.0 Tree's .500 Avatars detail 3.0 Sky detail 48 because raising it higher doesnt do anything for me. Transparent water Bump mapping and shiny basic shaders Atmospheric shaders advance lighting model Abient occulusion All turned on Shadows set to Sun/moon + projectors Avatars set to optimized (Firestorm setting) One of the things to note about the Nvidia series cards is that they throttle based on load. Throttling happens because of the design of Nvidia cards. Mine do not throttle because I have modified the card itself. I descovered it while running the gtx 970. This does not happen in most other games because the game puts enough pressure on the card to keep it running at full speed. Example of this is, when running without shadows. I see a gpu load(View using GPU) of 58%. If I turn on shadows Optimize( shadow resolution 2.16 I can push the system to about 98% load. This means that I am getting every drop of power from my card. Now why did I run off on this long stupid tagent. Don't be upset if you find yourself still slowing down and having slow rez times while in sl. I think the 970 is a great card as long as you set your expectations correctly. I would also recommend looking at the AMD R9 380x or R9 390x. Both of this card offer more power for a cheaper price. Problem with is that Sl has seen a lot of issues with these cards. A close friend of mine owns one and states that he hasnt had an issue with sl at all. I hope I didnt ramble too much and I provided great information. Btw my specs are intel 4790k overclocked to 4.4 16 of ram 500gb solid state and gtx 980ti. Perviously owned a gtx 970. Btw whats the cost of that system. Edit: Ya know I forgot the Rx480 is coming out soon, that's a beefy card for cheaper than the Gtx 970.
  6. Hello Monty, I will try to answer your questions to the best of my abilities. Currently I use IP Vanish as my VPN. I use connections out of San jose and los angeles. Those servers usually have like a 25ms to 23ms ping time. I am currently based out of Las vegas. I use cox for internet with 150Mbps down and 10Mbps. I am using a motorola/arris Surfboard modem to a Netgear R6400 router. Ports have been opened on the router but did not seem to make a difference. The Base Qos has also been enabled to my computer with no luck. Without the vpn if I login I will have over 0.3% packet loss which can shot up to sometimes 40% packet loss. With the Vpn I will have either 0.1 percent packet loss or 0.0 consistantly. Using the VPN is the only way I can enjoy sl anymore otherwise my animations lag, I can't dance and sounds are very delayed.
  7. I similarly have the same issue with sl. Everything else runs perfectly but I can at time suffer up to 40 to 50% packet loss. When running a VPN u have found that I can remove the packet loss. Maybe you can try that .
  8. In my opinion that 4100 would bottleneck the ever loving crap out of a 1070, And that's coming from the fact that I had a amd 8320 overclocked to 4.2 and still I couldnt run at 60fps on 1080p 60hz. Thats with stuff like Gta or black desert.
  9. Np, btw, The reason I say dont expect worlds difference, is because sl can crush even the beefiest systems. Anyone that tells you different is lying. youll be able to run pretty reasonable fps and higher settings. Just remember shadows and other mesh people are killers.
  10. I always use this website to compare. http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-840M.105681.0.html (new video card) http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Radeon-HD-4250.29664.0.html ( old Video card) http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Core-i5-4200H-Notebook-Processor.102725.0.html ( new cpu) http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Athlon-II-P320-Notebook-Processor.33925.0.html (old cpu) Based on the basic info there it certainly is an upgrade but I wouldnt expect worlds diffrence.
  11. I can't help but think that that laptop is going to struggle a bit due to the low processor. While i5 are technically great. These are the "Low" voltage versions so this may not be be as strong as a standard I5. The other portion of is is the video card. I always go to this site to research my video cards for laptops. http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-940M.138027.0.html You can kinda see how well SL is going to run based on how well it runs regular games. Keep in mind that SL can burry even the highest end computers. So I suspect youll probably enjoy High with no shadows probably 20 to 40fps. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015PYYDMQ/ref=as_li_ss_tl?%20ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B015PYYDMQ&linkCode=as2&tag=gamilaptunde1-20 This laptop is a really good deal for an inexpensive gaming laptop
  12. Whatever you do, Please please please do not let them take advantage of you. Even if they suggest something to you come back to us with the model number and the cost. i have a recommendation for you, It's the same card that I helped via verbal instructions install. http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-750Ti-Graphics-02G-P4-3753-KR/dp/B00IDG3IDO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1463696205&sr=8-1&keywords=Gtx+750ti This card was installed because she did not want to upgrade her power supply. She was fairly happy with it but wanted something with a bit more power for higher detail photos. http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Installed-Backplate-Graphics-04G-P4-3967-KR/dp/B012NOWERC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1463696284&sr=8-1&keywords=Gtx+960 This card requires an aftermark power supply. This becomes a bit more difficult . I would recommend having the shop install the power supply if you plan to go with that video card. I had her install the power supply it was fairly easy after she got past the fear.
  13. Welp looks like I resolved my own issue. Using my standard connection I am not able to see my wifes physics. If I use my vpn I have no packet loss and I can see her physics perfectly without any fps restriction.
  14. Great tech forums of sl I come to you seeking help. My wife wears the belleza body and for the life of me I can not manage to see her breast bounce properly. We verified that she has a physics layer on and I verified that my physics level is turned all the way up. If I log onto her account I can see the bounce, I just can't see it when viewing her from my client. Just incase anyone ask. specs are I7 4790k( 52c) CPU 16gbs of ram Gtx 980ti (GPU temp 64c) All running on an SSD also 1.7% packet loss so not great but way better than what I normally have. Any help or useful replies would be apperciated.
  15. Will wait for benchmarks and amds polaris before i get hyped on these cards. The gtx 970 had a glaring issue with the ram so we need to see if the 1070 has something similar. Also custom cards haven't been released or any overclocked versions. Also one thing I've learned is that top end cards still run sl like crap. No one who games gets the performance they expext because sl isn't optimized and all that jazz.
  16. Have you tried a 32bit version? I would check other versions of popular viewers to see if you have the same issue. Also you may consider rolling back your drivers. drivers over 362.00 have been causing problems for some users(not everyone has issues.) Make sure you run Checkdsk, Virus scans Busy sims are going to drag down even the highest end cards....
  17. What it took me and a lot of others to realize is that sl isnt like most AAA games. This world allows anyone who can model upload and they do not put restrictions on the mesh model. My wife has the belleza body and while it is beautiful it sure can stress a system on its own. Turn on shadows and this another big hit. With my 980ti and and i7 I can sustain roughly 50 to 90fps at my home.. When I go out... it tanks, The number of people you have in the scene and their body complexity will drag your system into the dirt. I found that using a viewer like firestorm it will allow you to turn on shadows but ony for the rest of the world. Rendering body shadows renders all the extra polygons they forgot to take out. If you are going to continue in this world is quick that you learn your powerful hardware is pretty wasted.
  18. To be honest that machine can get away with most things on high or ultra, Shadows will really bring you down in a super populated place. keep draw distance lower as it and the shadows are the biggest hit to a system.
  19. I hate to be blunt but I have to be honest, Spending 300 on a laptop for sl isnt going to net you much, for a decent I would certainly look in the mid range tier. The problem I see with low end laptops is that they have low in parts. Whcih will make use of intergrated graphics. It wont be fun at all.
  20. Im sure that that laptop well do pretty well, The 5400 in the grand scheme of things is a little slow. Youll be able to do high graphcis but I wouldnt recommend trying to run it all the time. Even the biggest systems slow down in sl. otherwise medium settings it should do just find. Biggest thing I'd change is the hard drive. either a solid state hard drive or a faster regular hard drive.
  21. Edit: didnt mean to direct the reply @Whirly Fizzle. When purchasing a laptop I usually refer to a site like this http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphics-Cards.13849.0.html You really only need to know the model number of the perspective laptops graphics cards. Something in the 960m to 970m range will do well when it comes to models. anything lower will probably not do so well. Be leary of any graphics card that is much higher in performance, While a high graphics cards will help in many other games, They typically do not help in sl. People tpyically quote the use of ultra settings in sl but they never quote what fps they are getting. They also do not note in Fps in busy locations. With my Gtx 980ti(desktop card) I can typically can run about 60fps at my home in the sky.. At some points I can also hit over 100 fps. If I go to some where like Muddy's where its busy I can still drop down into the 24 to 29 fps. Shadows impact things heavily so beaware of this. High settings for taking is great and all but not practical for every day use. Overall buy your laptop based on the graphics card first.. That really has to last.
  22. Something like that just happened to me I was crusing a long with shadows on and all and then bam sank like a rock .. Some will say check your temps I know mine are ok , what about yours? BTW my system is a 4790k 4.4ghz 16 gigs of ram and a gtx 980ti. More stuff but my ssds don't matter
  23. There is a lot that contribute to why your fps would be so low. I think it mostly boils down to the shadows that mesh bodies render. If you are in an area with a ton of people who have poorly done mesh bodies and you decide to have shadows on you are probably going to have a bad time. I personally use Firestorm viewer, I have learned to leave the settings all but stock except for draw distance and shadows. I keep shadows on because it generally forces my clock speeds to stay high. Now I know most people dont look into this kinda stuff so some of this is going to go in one ear and out the other. But the thing that you want to do is Maintain a high power profile. Make sure that your graphics card has something to do. 900 series cards are designed to slow down when they are not working to their full potential. This can have a very negative impact on sl. If your card is running below 60%gpu usuage I can almost guess that your clock speed will slow down causing your frame rates to drop like a rock. One thing I would also do is to make sure that Power management mode is set to Perfer maximum performance in the "Manage 3d settings" portion of the Nvidia control panel. Doing this should help to stablize the graphical performance. Your experience is going to vary place to place. At my home I get much better frame rates. During this post I decided to go Muddy's cafe. I went from having consistatly over 50 fps to 24/25 with avatar shadows off. If I turn all shadows off It jumps up again. The point really is that SL and objects in it are very poorly optimized. Learning when in where to change settings will help greatly.
  24. This may help http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_intel_fix_32bit.
  25. I too also run amd. I run a overclocked 8320e to 4.0ghz with a gtx 970. Can run Ultra settings also. Older Cpu's might struggle a little bit more.
