I've tried to install the basic SL viewer as well as Phoenix / Firestorm, and none of them will run. The last screen I get is Initializing VFS and then it crashes. I run WoW and other MMORPGS just fine, so it seems to be just a Second Life issue on this particular computer. I have tested it by installing SL on another (older/crappier) laptop, and it loads and runs just fine on that computer. I have already done clean installs multiple times, and I have cleared out my roaming and local caches on this laptop and no luck. Any other thoughts?
